I see this said every now and then, but I counter that with: What the Future Holds Pt. 2, a brand new album, sold more copies in its first week (25,285) than Tears on the Dancefloor: Crying at the Disco Deluxe Edition, a reissue (11,136). Which suggests that fans didn't confuse the former as merely being a deluxe. So if anything, Steps gained more sales by marketing it as a new album (while still attaching it to the same era).

I guess the proof will be in the pudding! If Kylie is really replicating the above "Steps method", we'll see if Tension II ends up selling considerably more in its first week than Disco: Guest List Edition did (10,409).

Personally I'd be more excited at the prospect of getting an album's worth of new tracks, as opposed to a handful being added onto Tension!

I suppose when you put it like that it does make sense to go with a new album marked as a Part 2 rather than a reissue of the original. I think fans should just brace themselves for sales of this album to be half as much as those of the original Tension album. Still, if it gives Kylie another one album then I’m here for it.

If its released before Xmas i cant see her getting number 1.... unless she has a zillion formats. Hopefully its out in January?

It won't be out in January, Christ.

I think she can easily get another #1 but of course it depends what week it's released and what else she's up against.

But we won’t be comparing it to Disco: Guest List’s sales, we’ll be comparing it to Tension, Disco and Golden since it’s a whole new studio album.

Its a strange startegy from what we know so far for this release, we all thought it was tension deluxe/expanded type release coming with a new album straight after so the plan must have changed, i wonder will all the recent collabs be included on the album and also how many formats they will go with.

This overlooks the points that I was making!

Some Steps fans said that they would have preferred a reissue over a Part 2, both from a commercial and marketing perspective. According to them, the Part 2 branding was confusing enough to come across like it was a reissue anyway, and they theorised that Steps “lost sales” due to it apparently not seeming like it was a new album.

However, from the first week sales I shared… to me, that highlights that Steps’ Part 2 release did translate well as a new product, and not like it was merely a reissue. The sales it achieved were strong in their own right by most measures, and considerably higher than their prior reissue. Yes, the sales of Part 2 were down on Part 1, but I think it’s reasonable for there to be diminishing returns from a quick follow up. That’s why I think it would be an interesting and valid comparison to compare Tension II sales (assuming it’s a Part 2 and not a reissue) with Disco Guest List sales… to determine whether the shift in branding and content results in way more sales for her than a reissue.

If it is a Part 2, then it can ultimately be considered as a second/companion album that is attached to the same Tension era. 2 albums, one era. To me that means that it wouldn’t be completely fair to hold it in quite the same regard as Golden and Disco. Tension II wouldn’t be a completely brand new era and I don’t think it would have the same expectations attached to it.

By the way, Steps’ Part 2 album included numerous remixes of songs from Part 1, so it all tied together that way - it wasn’t completely separate. So that could end up being the case for Tension II. I’d be very surprised if it didn’t have Padam Padam versions attached to it.

I would also be suprised is PP is not featured on the Part 2 album and maybe also Tension

Still waiting to see if a song from Tension was featured in The Residence Netflix drama and that would also be on any new offering.....

Anyway we will find out very shortly how much new stuff we will be getting.

I would expect her own Netflix documentary to also come out around the time of the new album release

Isn’t that hold on to now?

Isn’t that hold on to now?

I always thought it was and it was the reason the song never took off because that was probably the video that they couldn't release etc and part of the promo but the delay and strike scuppered it

We will have to wait and see

The official music store has updated its colour scheme and it compliments the leaked artwork cover of Tension II. Not long now…

That’s got to be a sign.

Gone back to the My Oh My scheme… maybe they were just testing it / made it go live too soon? 😅

Yep it's coming.....

Weird no pre-Save yet for the new song...

Maybe it's this afternoon coming for release tomorrow
