First medal of the games for Great Britain is a bronze in the 3m synchronised diving for Yasmin Harper and Scarlett Mew Jensen.

The gold goes to the Chinese pair.

I don’t like to say it but that’s a massive choke from the Aussies but a medal on the first day is great and the first diving medal for the women in 64 years makes it even better.
The British pair I noticed looked rather shocked at what the Australians did in their final dive.

Watched back the highlights from the morning's diving as I missed it live, eek we were lucky to get that bronze thanks to Australia quite badly messing up their last dive...!

Shame the British men missed out on a relay medal in the swimming this evening, 3rd fastest qualifying time but 5th in the final. Hopefully Adam Peaty can deliver for us tomorrow.

Peaty looked like a beast yesterday. Can I change my votes for hottest person of the year?!

Great to see him medal again - and mad to think that if he'd posted his previous Olympic winning time, he'd have been miles ahead. Hope he gets a couple more medals in the relays

Gutted for Litchfield though - 4th at 3 consecutive Olympics....

So close to the threepeat for Peaty but great to see another medal for him nonetheless.

Got up in time for the diving this morning and another silver, Daley now having at least one of each colour. No getting close to the Chinese there unsurprisingly but a comfortable 2nd for Tom & Noah

Superb diving from the Chinese and British pair

OMG at the french pairing. I get that they got a pairing as the host nation but the gap between the other 7 duo's and them was ridiculous!

Placings for the host nation in sports/events they otherwise wouldn't qualify for should be done away with.

FFS - looks like there's still a chance to make the relays. Would suck if he didn't make it

Silver for Matt Richards, once again only 0.02 seconds off the gold, becoming a cursed margin for GB in the pool! 2 more 4th places tonight as well (including Duncan Scott in the same race).

Mona McSharry gets Ireland on the medal table with a bronze. (Also a bronze for the suspiciously Irish sounding Siobhán Haughey of Hong Kong - I looked her up and she does have an Irish father but was born in HK).

I wasn't aware of that being the case, but agree that should be changed. The competitors should be there on merit alone.

The gulf between the French pair and the rest was very apparent. One of them I believe had a background in cliff diving.

Dan Wiffen wins Ireland's first swimming gold medal since Michelle Smith in Atlanta 1996.

Yeah well done to him, great result! A shame the chap from Tunisia finished fourth, would've been nice to see a country that doesn't feature in swimming too often in the medals.

And especially a shame for Elijah Winnington who was at the front to start with but ended up in last - I feel like there's definitely a pun to be made there!

My first memory about Olympics is Michelle Smith's triumph.

Was nervous that might end up being GB losing out on gold by a fraction of a second yet again until Duncan Scott headed out and raced ahead *.*

Daniel Wiffen being only the second ever athlete from Northern Ireland to win an individual gold medal after Mary Peters (representing Great Britain in the pentathlon in 1972)!

4 days in and GB currently have the same number of gold medals as the US... that won't last obviously but I'll enjoy it while it's true x Japan currently top of the medal table with China, Australia, France and South Korea completing the top 5 and the US and GB just outside.
