Not them giving Jay a girlfriend as the reason he's not returning. Bert being ill is much more believable. The way it was written suggested he could come back which could mean a recast on the horizon?

They might just bring him back in a couple years, like with Ben, after everyone forgets

Initially they did explain it as Bert being ill as I remember Lauren saying.

I don’t see why the character can’t just be in Walford but not on screen for things if they’re going to recast, I wouldn’t be surprised if they did as it’s not like he’s a huge character they simply couldn’t recast but then he was really a spent character who they never really used anyway so there’s no point to even bringing him back. It’s an odd one because Jay wouldn’t just leave Lexi especially with Ben in prison but they’ve backed themselves into a corner by having a character who’s simultaneously pointless and underused yet embedded into the square the way he is.

Really Lexi and/or Callum should just go with him at this point.

Agreed that perhaps writing out Callum and Lexi is probably for the best but they've got to deal with Johnny's friend's weird obsession with Callum first I guess 🫣 whatever the heck that turns into, if anything.

Bert being ill only really had mileage for why Jay left abruptly and couldn’t keep being the excuse forever. Bert would either get better or die-either way Jay would be heading back. So a girlfriend is as good an excuse as any. I just assumed they’d never mention him again.

They’re doing a lot just to keep Lexie in the show. Couldn’t they just saddle her with Phil or Kathy and be done with it?

I doubt it. It's been shite. Any explanation as to why Zoe's daughter lol bullied and targeted Cindy? And how Cindy suddenly, magically knew, aftter noot being around for any of it? Just ... awful

Yeah this had been heavily publicised for over a month. Got my hopes up with the hype but it wasn’t anything I didn’t already know about.

But I can just imagine it was amazing to see Pat there if you’d had no idea it was going to happen. They should (and could) have kept it a secret.

My theory is that they felt they had to announce it in advance to keep interest up otherwise a lot of people would have switched off by now.

I'm imagining tomorrow will be a Nigel centric episode? Similar to the Mitchell flash backs with Phil

With such great actors in the storyline they should really let the issue speak for itself instead of having this gimmicky flashback, i can’t say I am hugely taken by the idea of this episode as great as it is to see her back. Killing her off is still possibly the biggest mistake anyone on EE ever made.

Yea Pat is definitely very missed although I'd still put Ronnie and Roxy above her in terms of characters they shouldn't have killed off

I don't really like flash back/flash forward things, it's been so overdone by EE recently, it's just lazy writing to me. The only exception was the 6 storyline but that was because there was an actual plot and build up etc so it worked

At least with today's episode there are more surprises that didn't leak

That was actually done beautifully, I’m glad they let the actors and the actual story do the talking.

This storyline is one of the only things the new era is doing right at the moment I just didn’t trust Ben Wadey not to make it cheesy and gimmicky
