At least it seems Radio 1 will likely support Biffy Clyro's new music at their average age of 44.333333... - there should be a new album this year.

Was thinking they must have a new single out then before May!

  • It is an odd choice but I think Tom Grennan will feel bigger to young people.

Tom Grennan headlining makes it even odder that they decided to snub ‘Shadowboxing!’ I thought that he was going to start to struggle to get R1 support from now on but obviously I’m wrong!

    Fat Dog Mendoza!

Much better lineup for Saturday!

Main Stage: Sam Fender
Blossoms / Myles Smith / Tom Odell / Wolf Alice (A-Z)

New Music Stage: Aitch B2B AJ Tracey

Artemas / Good Neighbours / Inhaler / Jordan Adetunji

Just one woman (in a 75% male band) across the two main stages is a little surprising though.

Not necessarily. Coldplay headlined last year before anything from the 'Moon Music' era came out.

Interesting to see Artemas there when Radio 1 haven't supported any of his post-i like the way you kiss me singles, hopefully this means some support will be forthcoming again. Tom Odell hasn't been on the R1 playlist (aside from the Lost Frequencies remix of Black Friday) since Silhouette in 2016 if my search is accurate o

Sunday Main Stage: Mumford & Sons
Jorja Smith / Lola Young / Tate McRae / Wet Leg (A-Z)

Sunday New Music Stage: JADE

FLO / Joy Crookes / Self Esteem / South Arcade (A-Z)

Im conflicted I love Mumford and Sons but it bothers me that all three main stage headliners are all male...like where is the variety Radio 1 kink

Glad to see Tate Mcrae, Jade, Flo though

Is Radio 1 20s essential? Isn't that just the current playlist 😝

I would say maybe songs from the earlier 20s but they still play a few of them every now and then so I don’t know.

BBC Radio 1 has revealed a first for the Big Weekend 2025, a performance from Radio 1 Anthems acts Sugababes and Natash Bedingfield.

This new addition to the festival is on the back of the Radio 1 Anthems extension which launched on BBC Sounds last November and was provisionally approved by Ofcom last week to launch on DAB+.

The station is for young listeners to discover and re-discover music and artists played by Radio 1 throughout the 2000s and 2010s.

Radio 1’s Big Weekend 2025 takes place in Sefton Park, Liverpool from Friday 23rd May – Sunday 25th May.

Natasha Bedingfield says: “It’s a big deal to be part of Radio 1’s Big Weekend. I can’t wait to jump up on stage and sing my heart out with everyone. Let’s hope some inhibitions get released!”

Sugababes say: “We’re buzzing to be playing Radio 1’s Big Weekend! We’ve heard amazing things about the energy and the crowds, so we’re excited to be part of it this year. Expect a lot of love, big tunes, and a show to remember!”

Aled Haydn Jones, Head of Radio 1, says: “Radio 1’s Big Weekend is about bringing people together through the music they love, and our Radio 1 Anthems artists are a perfect example of that.

“These acts have soundtracked unforgettable moments for our audience and continue to resonate with listeners today – whether they’re rediscovering the songs or discovering them for the first-time.

Great news to have them support the Anthems station with possibly two of the best bookings, both were regulars in my playlists growing up.

I'm listening to Anthems right now and have been reminded how dire the Rita Ora - How We Do edit was... party and party and party and party and party and party

Its better than the Nicki Minaj Starships one on some radio stations which completely cut out the electro drop part of the song. I think the Radio 1 edit though didn't iirc.

I only knew this from airplay for years and didn’t realise it was the censored until it came in a curated playlist in 2021
