There’s probably a lot of The Beatles songs that fit that category!

Yeah you're right, I think it would actually be a Beatles song that's the most famous non-single, probably 'Here Comes The Sun' as Jade mentioned - I'd forgotten that wasn't a single. 'Stairway To Heaven', 'I Wanna Be Yours' and 'Mardy Bum' are also good shouts. I'm not sure that Eminem song even comes close, it's nowhere near in the same league as the others mentioned IMO.

But defining singles is tricky, especially nowadays where you're less likely to get definitive physical releases. Like if we're being strict, "Last Night" by Morgan Wallen was never released as a single. It doesn't have artwork, or a music video. It was released before the album, but part of a "3 Songs At A Time Sampler" (which still didn't have its own artwork). The only thing it has going for it to define it as a single is that it got promoted to radio, but then so did "Stairway To Heaven". A lot of the time it feels like a technicality as to what is and isn't a single, and very rarely do I see it consistently followed.

Yes it's definitely harder to define what is and isn't a single these days but we're talking about years old cassics here, back then there was no ambiguity.

Btw was 'Stairway To Heaven' really promoted to radio at the time of the album's release? I'd always assumed it only gathered radio play in subsequent years.

Five new entries on Spotify today:

119. Drake - Circadian Rhythm

129. Drake - No Face

131. Surf Curse - Disco

162. The Kid LAROI - BABY I'M BACK

172. Paolo Nutini - Candy

Great to see another Surf Curse song take off after 'Freaks' a couple of years ago!

'Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da', 'With A Little Help From My Friends', 'Don't Let Me Down' are also quite well known despite I believe not being singles (in the first two cases other acts had hits with them and WALHFMF has been number 1 three times by three different artists - which possibly makes that the most well known of all?)

That's also one that's hard to define, some songs just get radio airplay on random whims. In the case of Led Zeppelin, the image on the song's Wikipedia article is literally a sleeve sent to radio stations by Atlantic Records. Discogs tells me that this was put out in 1972 (the album was Nov 1971). I'd say that's sufficient enough to call it radio promo.

We dont need more random Drake songs!!

If there ever proof that Drake uses ghostwriters, no way he knows what circadian rhythms are lol 😅

The Chain by Fleetwood Mac is up there in that most famous non-singles discussion too I think.

But I'd agree with Oasis (Champagne Supernova in particular feels like a song most people would know) Led Zeppelin (Stairway To Heaven) and The Beatles (Here Comes The Sun and Blackbird).

‘Till I Collapse’ is one of the most iconic songs in Hip-Hop!

The average person is a lot more likely to know that than the Arctic Monkeys tracks that have been mentioned (especially ‘Mardy Bum’ and ‘505’):

Oasis:

6 Live Forever (320,605 streams)

7 Don't Look Back In Anger (311,154)

11 Wonderwall (274,709)

23 Champagne Supernova (214,276)

24 Supersonic (209,935)

28 She's Electric (185,796)

35 Half The World Away (166,834)

39 Stop Crying Your Heart Out (155,330)

50 Slide Away (134,786)

Everyone really just had the songs on throughout Saturday while trying (and probably failing) to get tickets. I'm sure it's still more than enough for Live Forever to reach a new peak. And they will return next summer, of course.

Sabrina still No.1 with Taste (634,688 streams), No.2 with Please Please Please (440,633) and No.3 with Espresso (428,803).

Into the top 50 go Goo Goo Dolls' Iris (No.42), Jimin's Who [the hell keeps pushing this back up?] (No.44), Sabrina's Slim Pickins (No.47), Coldplay's Yellow (No.48) and Lord Huron's The Night We Met (No.49).

I'd say 'She's Electric' is possibly the most famous song never released as a single, probably along with 'Champagne Supernova' and 'Morning Glory' - unless anyone can think of any more famous non-singles than those?

I really had no idea. Has it become particularly popular since they split? It wasn't even included on Time Flies.

Some of these tracks mentioned have been included on the artists' greatest hits/compilations and so have further grown in popularity since.

Stairway to Heaven I discovered when going through Led Zepellin's greatest hits many years ago and I would never have thought it wasn't a single back in the day - it's their biggest, most glorious song that deserves the acclaim it has since received.

I'd say The Beatles options mentioned here are probably good shouts for most well-known album tracks. But again, they feature on greatest hits albums now and so have earned their stripes amongst the singles and are heard as much as they are by casual fans.

We dont need more random Drake songs!!

Apparently Drake is just leaking various songs hoping one becomes a hit before adopting it as a serious song but if they go nowhere he just acts like it was an old song leaked and not a new single. This is supposedly the 15th song he’s released in this way and so far none have gone anywhere. He’s trying to intellectually dodge the washed allegations by avoiding songs being called flops.

Really want ‘Bed Chem’ to miraculously enter Sabrina’s top 3 at some point but… ugh.

It’s really starting to go viral now. Pretty much every other video of mine on TT has been that song.

after the climb last week due to the album, PPP and Espresso should start dropping and hopefully move to ACR in 3 weeks :)
