Should have delayed Autumn Variations and then moved onto the 4 seasons for his next projects, the modern day Vivaldi!

at least we got spared of Winter variations, Spring variations and Summer variations :D

really thought it was the first out of 4 :D maybe it was the original plan who knows but got derailed after the first one flopped

You Need Me is track 2 on Spotify only

I think they'v not pressed many copies cos they rely on this doing well on streaming and they know his fanbase is not the one that buys 12 colour variants each ala Taylor, so at least they're realistic. After week 1, he could do 5K every week and that's top 20 forever.

I think he should have taken a break after Equals, skip Substract and especially skip the Autumn one. They should have released from Substract's reaction that people don't buy his acoustic side.

You Need Me is song 2 on Apple as well!

I’d say they will all appear over the next decade he just isn’t rush releasing them to keep a lower profile. All artists aren’t as big as they were at their imperial stage of their career but still release albums lol.

I’m going to buy this. I don’t have any of his albums but like some of his singles so this is a great collection for me.
Il be def buying it as Ed is definitely an artist I'd buy a greatest hits album rather than all his studio albums.
Thing is some of his studio albums are like GHs 😂

I got the album today and had a listen to the voicenotes. He said Lego House was originally intended for JLS, a more uptempo version called Better Now, which I didn’t realise.

Anyway, after the last song he said: “I can promise you the next record is very upbeat and it will be a good way to start the next five symbols.”

So another symbols era is coming, surprised he’s committing to themes again.

The themes seem to work for him, even if just to tie the whole thing together in some way.

I'm intrigued to see what he puts out next year - I'd like something that has a similar energy to Castle on the Hill with a big chorus.

Absolutely to this *his best song*

The energy of Castle on the Hill for another single would be welcomed.

Not sure what energy people are referring to, COTH is one of his most boring songs.

Now if he could another You Need Me or Cross Me then I'd be interested.

I know there's plenty of Ed Sheeran playlists out there with everything to listen to these tracks on but having an actual release of them is a good shout. Hearing them all in once place really does highlight that he has some right bops??? That run of the first 9 songs from + and x is unbeatable.
I think this will be big in the run up to Xmas, as it's virtually a GH in all but name. I'd have put Supermarket Flowers on it, which was my late daughter's fave song of his.

Supermarket flowers is so beautiful, I heard it for the first time not long after my grandfather died and promptly burst into tears!

Ed said on the voicenotes that his label persuaded him to release Shape Of You as the lead from Divide as it was the bigger hit but he bet them Castle On The Hill (his preferred and intended lead) would be bigger, which is why they put them out together, so he could prove a point to them. Turns out his label was correct in the end

But he said in '200 years' people would still be listening to Castle On The Hill but not Shape Of You. I'd probably argue neither will be played much then...but Shape Of You definitely will age more quickly, it's already showing its age with that very distinct 2016-2018 era of production, I don't see it holding that title of biggest song of all-time for long.

Oh also, he said Shivers was originally written as a garage song. I always thought the start of the chorus sounded like Re-rewind by Artful Dodger so that wasn't a big surprise to me, I'm sure he was influenced by that.

Didn't he say that he wasn't very keen on Shape of You but felt like he had to play the game (he said in a Zane Lowe interview that "no one would have listened to Perfect if Shape of You hadn't come first") and/or it was intended for Rihanna?

He said on the Graham Norton Show that he was hoping that Castle on the Hill would replace Shape of You at #1 but sadly that never happened.

Think Shape of you started for Little Mix or Rihanna

Until he kept it

It does sound seasonal though imo!
