as subjective as ever I see :lol: I've been a Weeknd fan since 2012 and personally love the song (as does my flatmate who's seen him live three times), I just don't think the track has been rolled out in a way that sets him up for a long running, high peaking hit.

 

don't think there's much value in the 'poppy' argument either given the heavily pop inspired nature of his last few eras + consistent success they received.

 

I think on the whole people have been overestimating how much of a chart force he is in 2024 tbf

I’m starting to find it grating how the chart is / has been filled with multiple songs from the same artists even artists I love (Chappel, Charli, Sabrina, Oasis etc) Even with streaming the chart used to feel a bit fresher than this certain songs have been in the charts months.

 

Hopefully we get a good ACR clearout in 3 weeks so things can feel a bit newer before the Christmas takeover.

We're just in that period now where in literally a week or so, we'll probably start seeing the first few Christmas songs start to enter and become a prominent feature for the next 2 and a half months. New tracks stalling and lingering around until the New Year clearout in January, but songs like 'Espresso', 'Beautiful Things', 'Please Please Please', 'Taste' (by that point probably), 'Good Luck, Babe!', 'Stick Season', 'Too Sweet', 'Lose Control', 'Apple', '360' etc.. get reset due to managing to get that automatic reset after the "Best of the Year" playlists do their thing.

 

Q4 used to be one of the most exciting times for chart music but now it's definitely my least favourite part of the year.

Christmas songs don't ever enter Spotify until November 1st so we've still got just over a month before then

Yeah, I mean Halloween comes first. :lol: I wrote yesterday that Christmas songs will not trouble top ten on official charts until late November/early December and even then the effect is biggest during the weekends.

 

Plus there have always, well since streaming was introduced, been old songs hovering very high on Spotify charts. Like Mr. Brightside is still there after all these years :lol: That shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone and it really isn't a problem when ACR takes place.

 

Speaking of old OLD hits - Coldplay's Yellow reaches top 20 on global Spotify for the first time.

It's an endless battle for DWAS to overtake Espresso on Spotify, that's all :D The former has been creeping up closer and closer every day but still behind.
