I don’t want to get into a debate about this at all, but there’s a difference between something happening beyond all control, and something happening because somebody was at peace with it happening. I was merely saying that I hope that whatever transpired was something Liam felt was best for him, and not an unforeseen accident forgoing his consent. Either way it’s horrendous, it was just my own way of, as I said, finding some semblance of solace in what is this type of situation. I completely agree that he has a had a rough go of it. He did not deserve the barrage of hatred spat his way this last week, or any other week of his career for that matter. Nobody does.

EDIT: It’s hard to articulate fully-formed thoughts over text. Especially to those who do not know you. I’m sorry if my comments sound insensitive to some. They make sense to me.

And that’s the last I’ll say on the matter

I also don't want to get into a debate about it either, this is not the place or time I agree. I will just say though that my husband attempted to take his life a few years ago and no in a different place to then he is so glad his illness didn't win. It wasn't his choice at all in that messed up mind state.

I think there's been enough people come forward with the same sort of experiences paired with things Liam has said himself and the character he's shown publicly over the last few years for people to form opinions that probably aren't too wrong. Of course people will speculate and make assumptions based on the few facts they have but that's just human nature and people will want to create a full story to help them understand, I think that's fine as long as they're not then using that to fuel further abuse to people they want to pin as "potential contributors." I don't think anyone is saying they know what happened for certain.

It's absolutely the people Liam has left behind that I feel for and I really hope they get the space and respect to grieve how they need to without being blamed. As much as I don't think it was intentional suicide, the only person responsible for what happened is Liam. I've seen people try to blame the hotel for not keeping him in the reception until the police came or the dealers who gave him the drugs but it really was just a result of the choices he made, he was being aggressive and had passed out in the reception so the hotel did the right thing by taking him to his room, they probably thought he'd just sleep it off.

People are being very uncharitable. Child stars having huge problems in life or breakdowns is a tale as old as time. Social media creates a climate where if people decide you’re bad or deserve something they don’t have any nuance at all. So they’ll just relentlessly go on and on and it’s like where do you want it to end? What are you getting out of this? This guy committed no heinous crimes or anything like this, he just had severe issues and sometimes handled them badly. He already discussed at length how he needed rehab before etc and people still take the most uncharitable position to any info they hear. Can you imagine being apart of the biggest band in the world loves by millions then years later you’re in a hotel reading millions of online telling you to kill yourself, accusing you of being pedophile(totally false when you look into it) and just acting like you’re the devil, it’s not easy to deal with at all and the worst thing you can do is mix that kind of feeling with drugs and alcohol. People preach about mental health but it’s not just a depressed person it’s someone acting out or flirting with suicide or turning to drugs and becoming a different person. You can tell Zayn and Louis have also struggled mentally with the weight of the fame.

i still cant believe, i have no words to say

I still think it was an accident. Maybe he liked getting some air on roofs, seeing the views, etc. We have loads of social media people who do free climbing/ getting as high as they can. Ir's nor unheard of for people to climb on buildings.

I did think it was a hoax when I heard too, though. He had everything going for him and a child, so it is very shocking and just totally out of the blue. Sarah was shocking, but it wasn't unexpected. This was totally unexepcted, and it just goes to show our time can be up at any moment! Fortunately I didn't see any of rhe online hate from the previous weeks, but I wonder if he did? As he was on holiday anywsy. Hopefully he didn't.

I honestly hate this forum sometimes. People saying they know better than what the media have reported? Give your heads a wobble. Somebody has died.
Yeah I think it would be appreciated if people could leave speculation and such out of this for the moment - he literally just passed away less than 24 hours ago. Whatever kind of person he ended up being, this isn’t the time and it’s tragic.
It's simple, there's no need at all for speculation and it's disrespectful to fans. Let's wait for the facts before we psychoanalyse the situation. Someone is dead and that someone meant a lot to many people.
Surprised none of his former band mates have said anything yet unless I've missed it.

To be fair I think it's probably a really hard thing for them to all process and probably not at the forefront of their minds given it's such a shock to them.

I would expect something later in the week maybe.

I'm utterly shocked about this, it's so tragic. :( It was the first thing I read when I woke up this morning and I just couldn't believe it. Thinking of his family, loved ones, particularly his young son... it's devastating.

I was a big fan of One Direction and I regarded Liam as being my favourite member. I was lucky enough to see them twice in concert and Liam always shone vocally. He was very talented.

Rest in peace, Liam. :(

This is a situation that has layers to it, people are allowed to feel more than one type of way about it. I don't know what posts are even being referred to as speculative bc nobody from what I've seen has commented on anything that's not already been made public knowledge so idk where this idea of anyone knowing better than anyone else is coming from?

This has clearly triggered something with me though that I don't really want to go into so I'm not gonna say anymore about it, I feel like it's probably been something I've said that's pissed some of you off unintentionally, I didn't mean anything to be disrespectful if so.

For what it's worth, I agree with you. Obviously anything insensitive shouldn't be posted, but there's a difference between that and discussing reports.

Nobody’s made any comments suggesting people aren’t allowed to feel a certain way about anything Liam may have done while he was still here, or about his death. What we are asking for is some respect and common decency though, as well as time. This is still very fresh, and yes as facts emerge by all means that will open the discussion up more.
I think they'll release a joint statement

This is exactly what I suspect will happen. Suspect as well privately they will want to respect Liam’s families wishes and know everyone will want them to make a statement. Suspect they will go as a collective 4 rather than individually. But they also need time to grieve and process the news too.

Certainly feel they collectively had different levels of closeness. From what I understand Louis and Zayn cleared their rift but not sure what how things were left with the others. But they’ll all know the importance of collectively in this moment, or their PR teams will.

Horrified by this news. He was so young and seemed to have it all. Praying for his poor son.

RIP Liam Payne

^ exactly this, thanks for elaborating Calum

I like this from Rebecca Ferguson.

Part of what made me note One Direction in particular out of all the boybands is that they were age peers to me almost exactly, Liam was only 2 months older than me. So that they were all normal teenagers with middle-class backgrounds getting thrust into fame, that was odd to watch for me but I can't imagine how it must have actually been for them.

The pressures of that fame, and then for Liam in particular, he didn't seem to have much of a solo career once it all ended (perhaps through no fault of his own, the industry can be very cruel at times) and the pop industry seems to have such little support for someone in that situation, even though it absolutely could, and should.
