One thing I do love about the streaming age is how it re-appraises artists’ discographies. “Night Changes” was nowhere near the biggest at the time but is absolutely their best song.

From a chart loon point of view, the timing is unfortunate as (presumably) the biggest day of streaming falling on a Thursday essentially counts for nothing!

Its not like the would've impacted today's chart even if they were officially counted as its only 1 days worth of sales.

 

I reckon that a couple of the songs will stick around though and might make an appearance in next week's chart.

 

The Big Top 40 will probably have 1D or a Liam song at the top though (which I know if effectively meaningless, but would be something)

I think the suggestion was that there's a big surprise album dropping, not a single.

All she said was that it's coming out in October. Its actually now confirmed for next week, titled "Disease"

I think it’s more that lyrically it’s the most fitting perhaps. It is definitely in their top tier though and deserved more at the time. Perhaps it might end up getting a new peak but for a reason nobody wished :cry:

 

I’ve actually realised through Liams passing that 1D were actually pretty strong on the ballads front my favourite tracks from them all seem to be all the slower numbers they did.

lol Shawn Mendes moved his album cos he had literally 12 pre-orders for his album and needed time to build some more

why would he move cos of someone else releasing a new single? his albums sales would never be affected, his album sales need pre-orders not streams during release week, he's not Eminem lol and even if Shawn was a big streaming artist, why would another artist releasing a single, affect his album streams?

 

It was rumored to be an album. But even still, you're right that it was likely moved because of sales, possibly because they knew his concert movie was coming out and timing them together might benefit first week sales/streams.

 

If there's a force outside of Shawn that caused the delay, it was not a surprise but a song his US label knew was coming for 6 months, Dumb & Poetic by Sabrina Carpenter. Ruined his whole vibe with a US top 40 hit. Time for him to go back in the studio, cut out his cover of hallelujah (bad time to be quoting Leonard Cohen), and replace it with a response, or he's done for
