In lieu of the previous SyncTube sessions' weekly polls cutting each week's songs down to a list of 10 options to vote for because no one volunteered to do the work to make such curated lists, for our Hot 100 #1s marathon I'm just going to post one of these threads each week allowing people to vote for whichever songs they want from the full list x

If you don't know what the above sentence is referring to don't worry, this thread is open to participation from anyone (although we're always open to new participants at our weekly listening sessions x), just post in the thread with up to 5 favourites and, if you want, up to 3 least favourites from the below song list. The song with the most favourite nods will get a play at the start of next week's session (and the song with the most least favourite nods will just have a permanent place on a wall of shame for funziez).

Once again the winner was decided by just a one vote margin, the run of 7 vote winners is broken as the leader this time only got 6 votes (perhaps because of just how many classics were on offer), that being The Doors' 'Light My Fire'. Joint second place with 5 votes each were Otis Redding's '(Sittin' On) The Dock Of The Bay' and The Beatles' 'Something', the latter looking like they may be missing out on a poll win here with this week being their last chance but perhaps not helping themselves by having so many songs to split the votes between ('Hey Jude' also got 3 votes and 'Penny Lane' 1 vote, with no one voting for more than one song from them). The worst vote poll was even more scattered as we generally agreed there wasn't really anything that bad from the week 4 selection, the winner by way of being the only song to get more than one mention was The Rascals' 'People Got To Be Free' with 2 votes. 9 other songs claim joint 2nd place with 1 vote each.

Wall of Fame

Week 1 (Aug 1958-Apr 1962): Percy Faith - Theme From "A Summer Place" [7/9]

Week 2 (May 1962-Aug 1964): The Tornados - Telstar [7/9]

Week 3 (Aug 1964-Feb 1967): Simon & Garfunkel - The Sounds Of Silence [7/13]

Week 4 (Feb 1967-Feb 1970): The Doors - Light My Fire [6/10]

Wall of Shame

Week 1 (Aug 1958-Apr 1962): Larry Verne - Mr. Custer [8/9]

Week 2 (May 1962-Aug 1964): Steve Lawrence - Go Away Little Girl [5/8]

Week 3 (Aug 1964-Feb 1967): SSgt Barry Sadler - The Ballad Of The Green Berets [9/11]

Week 4 (Feb 1967-Feb 1970): The Rascals - People Got To Be Free [2/6]

Following today's more condensed 2 hour session including several more double A-Sides and a few longer songs, this week's list only covers the 230th through 254th #1s (so 25 #1s but 29 songs accounting for four double A-Sides), from mid February 1970 (Sly & The Family Stone's 'Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)' / 'Everybody Is A Star') to mid June 1971 (Honey Cone's 'Want Ads'). Voting for this should be open for 2 weeks as I plan to do the next session on Sunday 3rd November and then hopefully won't have to keep skipping weeks after that!

My votes for this week:

Best:

The Beatles - Let It Be

The Beatles - The Long And Winding Road

Carpenters - (They Long To Be) Close To You

Edwin Starr - War

George Harrison - My Sweet Lord

Triple George impakt ('Isn't It A Pity' was a great discovery too)

Worst:

Bread - Make It With You

Sly & The Family Stone - Everybody Is A Star

There's again nothing outright awful this week but the Bread song was a proper snoozer and they made some choices with the backing vocals on 'Everybody Is A Star'. Considered voting for Ray Stevens too but I will give him a pass because it is not quite 'The Streak', just a bit bland x

Best

The Beatles - Let It Be

The Beatles - The Long And Winding Road

George Harrison - Isn't It A Pity

The Rolling Stones - Brown Sugar

Simon & Garfunkel - Bridge Over Troubled Water

I thought 'Everybody Is A Star' was pleasant enough, and 'Joy To The World' has the iconic bullfrog opening line I remember from Heardle.

Cheeky bump to anyone else who may still want to nominate, still open until 4pm tomorrow!

Hmm we really could use a last minute vote here as it's currently a tie for the best :kink:

edit: I decided to give tiebreak power to Bjork on SyncTube (as he hadn't voted in this already) and he picked Bridge Over Troubled Water over Let It Be x
