wow incredible result x Tyler but why why why he released on Monday losing 3 days of streams

there's not much you can do in 4 days

in the US he has crazy figures, >5 million for the top song

I mean, I was thinking that unless you're gunning for the #1 spot, does anyone really need to release on a Friday? You might get a slightly different peak, but anyone with experience with charts is just gonna recognise the inevitable drop off and then take away the credibility of the position. Something like 'oh that's just an album bomb*/that's just fanbase curiosity streams'. Even as a chart watcher myself, the novelty of 'wow, this artist who isn't known for populating the pop charts was really high on them for a week or two' diminishes. In the long run, "IGOR" & "Flower Boy" are getting more streams than any Drake album currently, who cares that they didn't do 100 million on their first week? Btw, the only top 10 hit Tyler has had anywhere is "EARFQUAKE" which did so in Australia and New Zealand, and it peaked on the second week.

I actually probably wouldn't have gotten to "CHROMAKOPIA" in a hurry if it were released on a Friday. I'm always so worn out on new singles that I'm not in the mood to check out new albums, but the Monday release on its own worked great.

*Really dislike this term. Reeks of people coming up with a dismissive term to describe something they don't like (ala bro-step, skip-hop) and that's never a good foundation

He prefers this more than he cares about charting. He'd rather you talk about his album all week then he would land a number 1

you could have both, don't see why not

Not really, a ton of debuts get lost between Friday and Monday. Especially when there's 10 other debuts happening the same day. The numbers speak for themselves, one of the biggest debuts of the year on Spotify and challenging for a top 10 in multiple countries where he never has

I prefer to hear artists who make albums so people can play it, and you actually hear it. You know, drive in your car, you hear another car playin it? Go to the barber shop, hear them playin' it? You know, turn the radio on, you hear them playin' it? You know, it's playin' everywhere. It's called great music. It's called albums that you actually hear the songs. Not no mysterious shit, and you never hear it.

So you only listen to mainstream music and curated playlists, got it.

It's a reference to DJ Khaled getting mad at Tyler beating him to Billboard number 1 :D

Im pretty sure same would have happened if released on Fri, maybe even higher streams

You're projecting your own personal experience into what others do, which is not the case

Most people don't give a damn about new releases and care much more about a big artist like Tyler dropping a new album

also there was zero competition last Friday, no other big album release

thankfully he still had enough leftover energy drinks to wash the salty taste away :teresa:

Dude hasn't had a top 20 hit in 5 years in the UK. Never has had a top 10 hit. When was the last time you saw someone that fits that description drop an album bomb, and suddenly challenge for multiple top 10 hits? You're telling me it has nothing to do with the fact he released it on a day nobody else was?

His fanbase IS huge though, and he has some very long-lasting streaming hits (See You Again in particular) - however I don't think it's fair to expect much longevity for these tracks considering Noid couldn't go top 40 last week when available. It got 4x the streams now as part of the album which means it's the album itself that is important. People who are interested in Tyler's music have now checked the album and we'll see if something from it truly clicks with people.

I think the album is pretty mid compared to his best work, especially Igor.

"Espresso" #28, 29 & 30 on Amazon.

Halloween songs moving up now with "Thriller" up to #21. Should go top 10 quite easily on the day I suspect.

One reason for "APT." falling is the 2nd version has gained a bit - up to #141 with the highest version at #64. Should see both versions climb quite a bit once the Halloween songs fall away as there are quite a few in the top 100/200.

Christmas songs starting to crack the top 1000 of the Amazon chart now too.

Not denying he's got a big fanbase, by any means. I just don't see any other reason he could've gained the way he's done here other than the day change. He hasn't had any huge hits or viral moments or controveries that get his name in the news, hasn't done anything that could grow his fanbase, and suddenly he's on pace to have the best week of his career with half of it non-existent. All of it adds up to him being right that debuting on a Monday is better

He’s been building a lot for the past few albums and isn’t really commercial in terms of his musical output!

Edited by Steve201

perfect timing for Gaga releasing the video and it's very Halloween-esque

the best that could happen to the song is the video going viral

I like the song, easily her best pop song since The Fame days

but don't love it, maybe cos she's already done the whole disease metaphor, so seems a bit reductive to do it again
