FAQs

What is streaming? What are the chart rules regarding streaming?

For streaming and chart rules related FAQs read this thread.

How many streams equals one download sale?

100 plays if you are on Spotify Premium, or 600 if you are using the ad-supported free tier. However you cannot simply play a song that many times in one day to give it one sale, you are limited to 10 plays per day in terms of what counts to the chart. The number changes to 200 or 1200 plays when a song moves to ACR. For more information on the rules of ACR see this thread.

How much does streaming contribute to the chart?

Streaming contributes over 90% to the singles chart as a whole. Spotify counts for at least half of this, with Apple Music and Amazon also big contributors. YouTube is also big however most of YouTube's streams are at the free tier so won't count for as much.

Why is my fave not doing well?

Is it being promoted on a major curated playlist, and/or going viral on TikTok? If it isn't, it's unlikely to really take off! Hot Hits UK is the biggest of these playlists on Spotify from a UK standpoint. The playlist usually updates itself to include breaking hits once or twice a week, though there is no guarantee that your fave will get a place on the playlist. Also, the UK Top 50 is a largely followed playlist and that songs often experience a 'top 50 effect', when they enter the top 50 and get the additional exposure of being on the playlist. Often sales hits don't cross over to being streaming hits, this is usually the case for songs with an older target audience, reality or campaign songs. Also keep in mind that it often takes longer for a song to take off on Spotify than it would on iTunes.

My fave didn't debut high and is falling already, does this mean they're flopping?

Not necessarily. Most songs debut relatively low as they aren't instantly well-known, and experience a sharp decline on Day 2 as they no longer have the promoted 'New Music Friday' effect. A lot of songs manage to recover through gaining popularity and additions to playlists. Exceptions to the rule of course come from massively hyped releases, such as the recent album impacts from Drake and Taylor Swift.

Spotify

How do I see today's Spotify chart?

To see the daily top 50 update on desktop, log in to Spotify, click 'Browse', then click 'Charts', then click 'United Kingdom Top 50', or click the link below. For the full top 200, use the link below to go to Spotify's website. You can also use the Kworb website which displays the data in an easier to read format and also contains additional information, however this is often out of date.

What are the most influential Spotify playlists?

Links to Spotify's top playlists are as below.

Hot Hits UK

UK Top 50

New Music Friday

Today's Top Hits

How often does the Spotify chart update?

It should update once every day, usually in the early afternoon - although on occasion there will be a delay.

What do the numbers mean?

The streaming figures cited in the daily chart are the number of streams each song received the previous day. Unlike the iTunes chart, Spotify is not a rolling chart so the numbers will only change once per day.

Apple Music

How do I see today's Apple Music chart?

You can use the link below to view the Apple Music top 100 through Kworb. If you have Apple Music, you can also view the top 200 by going to the Charts section and clicking on See All in the Top Songs section.

How often does the Apple Music chart update?

It like iTunes updates on a regular basis a number of times a day. No streaming figures are provided however, unlike Spotify.

Amazon

You can use the link below to view the Amazon Music chart.

How often does the Amazon Music chart update?

Another dead week

NMF has:

1 Myles Smith - Nice to meet you, 3rd attempt at a hit after Stargazing

2 Griff - Las night's Mascara

3 BL3SS- Craving 4 U

4 Zach Bryan - This world is a giant

5 M Huncho

Nothing added to HH, Gracie-True moved to track #15 is the only significant thing I can see.

Is it same style as Stargazing? (Unable to listen right now)
Yeah, all his songs are very much in the same style including this one. Can definitely see this one becoming a hit.
Still gone stick season and co agin because dead week the official chart need rule change song only count if ad to your playlist not this random playlist get play in background

Gracie number 1 with 60k lead over Sailor Song and a new peak number 584K.

She has 4 songs in the top 50 now.

Billie Eilish's 'TV' is charting at #101 today, seems to be another post-election result effect a la Paris Paloma due to the lyric "while they're overturning Roe v. Wade"

^yes, it's #50 in the US, too bad the effect won't last long, one of Billie's bestest

and obviously Gracie has a big unexpected increase but won't count for today's chart cos there's no way the algorithm was gonna predict that

YES, TV, one of Billie's best songs.

and WILDFLOWER is up to #11 (+2) on Spotify, it's a re-peak here.

and obviously Gracie has a big unexpected increase but won't count for today's chart cos there's no way the algorithm was gonna predict that

It shouldn't matter, I think Gracie's already done enough to be #1 today

Spotify:

New Peak:

11. Billie Eilish- WILDFLOWER

42. Gracie Abrams- I miss you, I'm sorry

47. Teddy Swims- Bad Dreams

90. Gracie Abrams- Risk

Re-Entries:

101. Billie Eilish- TV

133. Travis Scott- HIGHEST IN THE ROOM

156. Rihanna, Mikky Ekko- Stay

163. Future, Drake, Tems- WAIT FOR U

165. TV Girl- Cigarettes out the Window

169. Sabrina Carpenter- Coincidence

177. Billie Eilish, Khalid- lovely

184. The Cranberries- Zombie

185. Tory Lanez- The Color Violet :manson:

186. Frank Ocean- Thinkin Bout You

187. Brenda Lee- Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree

190. The La's- There She Goes

191. Tate McRae- greedy

193. Zach Bryan- Heading South

194. Eminem- Lose Yourself

197. Usher, Lil Jon, Ludacris- Yeah!

198. Juice WRLD- All Girls Are The Same

199. Toto- Africa

and obviously Gracie has a big unexpected increase but won't count for today's chart cos there's no way the algorithm was gonna predict that

She was only 50 sales behind yesterday even a small increase estimation should be enough I'd say

Apple:

73 NEW Myles Smith - Nice To Meet You

Myles Smith is still the only new entry on Apple, but is up to #36 now - which seems quite good but I'd say we have to wait for Spotify tomorrow before reading anything into it.

Christmas:

#43 Last Christmas

#59 All I Want for Christmas is You

#86 Merry Christmas Everyone

#94 Fairytale of New York

#193 Step into Christmas

Apple:

33 NEW Myles Smith - Nice To Meet You

He's also #21 already on Amazon, so that will help too. Looks like 2nd hit incoming after his last 2 releases didn't manage.

Streaming services and the audience decided that they are finally ready to move on from Stargazing. :D

But it's pretty normal that after 6 months the focus naturally shifts - if there's not an album full songs, that is.

well he released a 7-song EP yesterday

funnily Stargazing is #14 on Apple, #14 on Spotify and #15 on Amazon at the moment :D
