Posted November 11, 2024Nov 11 Wasn't sure of the best forum to post this in but I recently read this book and I would highly recommend it to any 90s/2000s pop/chart fans - a really interesting read. It contains individual chapters on the Spice Girls, Sugababes, Girls Aloud, Steps, S Club, boy bands, X Factor and many more! Maybe other Buzzjackers have already read it and can endorse my recommendation of it!
November 11, 2024Nov 11 Yes, it's a great book, I'm about two thirds of the way through it. Certainly some interesting info in there about inner band tensions and rivalries and the wider music industry landscape at the time. Lots of secrets I didn't know, so it's well worth a read. One thing that made me laugh in it was a pop magazine editor saying that whenever there was a free gift on the cover, they would put the "least fanciable" or least popular member of a band under the flap on the lefthand side. Ruthless! Edited November 11, 2024Nov 11 by gooddelta
November 11, 2024Nov 11 I've been meaning to buy this ever since it came out! Definitely adding it to my Christmas list. Another great book which covers the music industry from the 1950s is Yeah Yeah Yeah: The Story of Modern Pop. I need to revisit it as only about a fifth of the way through (it's a chunky book!) https://www.amazon.co.uk/Yeah-Story-Modern-Pop/dp/0571322409
November 11, 2024Nov 11 Oh wasn't this a book mentioned on a recent episode of The Wheel? I remember them recommending it then.
November 11, 2024Nov 11 I read my books in order of when they were purchased/received and I'm finally two books away from this one, which I bought when it first came out last year! I'm currently reading American Gods by Neil Gaiman so I suspect this will be whiplash so soon after that world, but looking forward to it
November 11, 2024Nov 11 Might have to ask for this for Christmas, didn't even know it existed but it's right up my street
November 12, 2024Nov 12 I read this last year as one of my holiday reads and loved it! Deffo recommend it, so very interesting and informative. I found the Atomic Kitten chapters fascinating, Jenny sounds like a great person, she really looked out for Liz and Tash.
November 12, 2024Nov 12 Ooh this looks like it might be a great read. I was going to order it online and have it shipped to Australia, then realised I can buy in in four weeks time when I’m in London/England.
April 7Apr 7 I can't recommend this book enough! Got it for Christmas last year, currently on the Sugababes chapter and it's an addictive read. And the fact Xenomania get their own chapter!!
April 7Apr 7 Funnily enough I finally started this book a few days ago! Can’t wait to get properly stuck in.
