Posted November 13, 2024Nov 13 Put yourself in my place was released 30 years ago this week. It has aged like fine wine and certainly a song I appreciate more as the years roll by. Such a shame it missed out on going top 10.
November 13, 2024Nov 13 One of my favourite Kylie songs. Agreed completely, aged like the finest of wines.
November 14, 2024Nov 14 This is in my Kylie top 3!!! How did this not go top 10? I want to hear this LIVE!
November 14, 2024Nov 14 Video just great and after Confide In Me was really back to back excellent colourful Kylie videos.
November 14, 2024Nov 14 Absolute career highlight for me - they really chose the singles well from an overall (IMO) weak album. I was sure this was going to be HUGE but looking back maybe it was a misstep as they positioned Kylie as alternative dance with CIM and then went with a sublime poppy PWL-esque PYIMP as the follow up.
November 14, 2024Nov 14 The only other act I really knew who was on DeCon at the time was Black Box, so I assumed Kylie was going to deliver some full on dance bangers when she signed to the label. Confide in Me is obviously an incredible track, but Put Yourself in My Place and most of the rest of the Kylie Minogue album was just not what I was waiting for at the time and it all really quite disappointed. PYIMP has since aged well and I love it now, but the album is largely just full of meh tracks that mostly go on for far too long. Don't shoot me.
November 14, 2024Nov 14 Author I do agree, the album wasnt what i was looking for at the time as i think i expected something more upbeat, but put yourself in my place is now easily the best track from the whole album for me.
November 14, 2024Nov 14 Absolute career highlight for me - they really chose the singles well from an overall (IMO) weak album. I wouldn't have chosen 'Where is the Feeling' in a million years, especially months after the era was dead and buried. Definitely my shining highlight from the era, and right up there with her best for me. I'm not sure it peaking at #11 was indicative of it not clicking or underperforming. 'Confide in Me' may have been a pretty big hit but I'm not convinced it re-established her enough to get multiple top 10 hits post-album release, the album itself didn't exactly smash and the charts were hugely competitive at that time.
November 14, 2024Nov 14 At the time it was released, I was somewhat disappointed it became the follow up to the incredible ‘confide in me’. However, it’s a really underrated track that deserved to do so much better than stalling just shy of the T10. The first Decon album was certainly a mixed bag but looking back they choose two of the strongest tracks from the album to be singles. My only regret is they didn’t release dangerous game and choose where is the feeling instead. Edited November 14, 2024Nov 14 by neill2407
November 14, 2024Nov 14 I wouldn't have chosen 'Where is the Feeling' in a million years, especially months after the era was dead and buried. I know a lot of people don’t like but it’s a favourite of mine, I think whatever they chose as single 3 would’ve struggled as Kylie had moved on from the project and was filming - I guess Decon threw it out as an attempt to get a few extra sales for what I’m sure was an underwhelming for them sales total for KM94.
November 15, 2024Nov 15 Author Does anyone think confide in me not going number 1 possibly hindered the rest of the campaign. If it went number 1 there may have been more momentum. There is also no denying kylie away filming during the campaign wasn't her best move and also a misfire having WITF as 3rd single didn't help.
November 15, 2024Nov 15 ^^ I think Decon and Kylie dumped the project pretty quickly - I think internal expectations were sky high for CIM and subsequent album success, I’m sure it was thought at the time both would be guaranteed #1s. Decon didn’t really know what to do with her/how to market her post PYIMP.
November 16, 2024Nov 16 Author It did/does feel that way which was a pitty as confide in me did exactly what kylie needed then, it made her stand out and helped to really get her noticed again and showed how diverse she could be. CIM missing number 1 probably shocked them and PYIMP missing the top 10 was almost the nail in the coffin along with the album failing to go top 3. Despite such a roaring start decon definitely struggled with marketing her and as a result all her time with them underperformed but equally was a pivotal time in her career moving forward.
