Posted December 11, 2024Dec 11 Hello everyone, A week ago you were tasked to vote on a poll posted in this forum and pick the best year of the 90's. After a too close result, year 1997 pulled ahead and became the theme of this contest <3. We can all agree that 1997 was indeed a year of variety in music with lots of genres emerging and ruling the charts, and we're here to celebrate all of that. However, in this contest we're not looking for big hits, but we're searching for those singles/songs/album tracks that failed to chart, or those that hit top 40 but really went unnoticed and already are forgotten. As usual, top 10 hits will not be allowed and please be aware that any submission will be subject of veto (mod's discretion) if found anything that doesn't feel within the spirit of the contest. Now down to the nitty gritty. The song you confirm must have been released between the 1 January 1997 and 31 December 1997. If it's a single released in 1997 but comes from a parent album that was released in 1996, it shall be allowed, but if it's a song that was part of the album released in 1997 but was released later as a single in 1998, most likely will be disqualified. Also, re-releases in 1997 of songs from before that year will not be allowed but remixes will be considered if they add quite a lot to the original recording. And now to the main event, please submit your entries to me by PM and include: Your username: Artist: Song Title: Link: You have a week to confirm, and the deadline will be 23:59 on Tuesday 17th December 2024. The voting thread will be up, as soon as everything in the list looks ok. Thank you all and Happy New Year 1997.

December 11, 2024Dec 11 Author Oh and I shall add that I hope I’ll see wide range of genres confirmed for this contest. The more genres, the merrier!!!
December 11, 2024Dec 11 Oop I missed the poll for this (I need to check this forum more often), I belatedly put in a vote for 1996 and made it tied, I demand the theme is changed accordingly!! :kink: Seriously though 1997 was a good year for chart faves as well, will also hope for a nice variety of genres etc. Think I'm probably less likely to offer myself as a sacrificial lamb token hip-hop entry this time but we'll see :magic:
December 14, 2024Dec 14 Doesn't appear to be much interest in this at the moment... is it worth postponing the contest or sending out some invites before the deadline approaches?
December 14, 2024Dec 14 I think people just might not be aware. I only spotted the thread just now (and will be submitting soon).
December 14, 2024Dec 14 I don’t think 7 entries at the halfway stage is particularly different from the norm: you’re pretty much guaranteed 15-20 in total with these,
December 14, 2024Dec 14 Maybe, but it is Christmas month and most people have plans with relatives or shopping to do where their attention may not be on finding a song from a specific year, it's not a typical theme with lots of choices to go with when you have a set timeframe to choose from. Let's see what happens. ;)
December 14, 2024Dec 14 There's still more than three days left to enter, would wait a little longer before worrying :P (though admittedly I had kind of forgotten about this so thanks for bumping, should probably try and sort this out over the weekend x)
December 14, 2024Dec 14 I've sent one in too as remembered that one of my most played retro songs of this year is from 1997.
December 15, 2024Dec 15 Author Yeah, I wouldn't worry much. We're up to 10 (11 really if you include me, even though I haven't decided yet what to really send). Also, I understand this month must be busy for most of you, but I will make sure the voting will stay open long enough so no one will feel pressured etc. etc. EDIT: Also hoping my firework signature add will do the job of making people aware  Edited December 15, 2024Dec 15 by Addy!

December 15, 2024Dec 15 Not sure if it’s spammy but could you promote it in the BJSC forum since it’s the main contest on the site so the people likely to enter would see it?
December 16, 2024Dec 16 Author Not sure if it’s spammy but could you promote it in the BJSC forum since it’s the main contest on the site so the people likely to enter would see it? Took your advice and did it :kink:
December 16, 2024Dec 16 Except the link was for the poll not the contest :P but I found it nonetheless. Will get looking sharpish
