The following year another “South Park” inspired single, “Mr Hankey The Christmas Poo”, reached #4. Its exit just before the Top 20 leaves only Mariah representing the ‘90s.

January 2Jan 2 Chef 😍 absolutely love it. I've played it recently to younger mates who'd never heard it before - they thought it was hilarious and couldn't believe it was a UK number 1. I can't believe that Radio 1 used to play it with no censorship - I was 12 and knew all the words! Can't imagine they'd play it in full nowadays. Edited January 2Jan 2 by rio309
January 3Jan 3 I really hate that Greg Lake song and don't like that noisy The Foundations song. Apart from those 2, I think it's a good top 20. :P
January 3Jan 3 I'm very surprised Human is still here as I remember that being massively hated on here at the time (basically the Lose Control of back then). And also JCB Song, I love it myself so very happy that's still to be announced.
January 3Jan 3 I really hate that Greg Lake song and don't like that noisy The Foundations song. Apart from those 2, I think it's a good top 20. :P I don't think I've ever heard The Foundations described as 'noisy' before!
January 3Jan 3 Oops just realised I somehow completely overlooked / accidentally deleted 'Build Me Up Buttercup' from my own list, would definitely have been on there! Ah well ~ Chef :cheeseblock: have recently been rewatching South Park so heard it in its original context, iconic x

January 3Jan 3 JCB Song  I grew tired of it at the time but I like it more again now in retrospect, it's actually a really sweet track that deserved its success. The video was lovely too.
January 3Jan 3 I'm not sure if I'd be into 'JCB Song' if it came out today but I have only positive nostalgia for it.

Amazingly this initially only reached #17 and dropped out before being revived following the success of “Shake, Rattle And Roll”. At Christmas it was the runner up behind the rather less enduring “Christmas Alphabet” by Dockie Valentine.
January 4Jan 4 A Clean Bandit and Rag'N'Bone Man Christmas top 2 so recently seems absolutely bonkers now. JCB was quite funny at the time but when I listened to it more recently... no thanks. Edited January 4Jan 4 by RabbitFurCoat
January 4Jan 4 Love these threads because I casually click on ‘Sunshine Superman’ and knew it as a classic instantly yet didn’t know who it was by, great song!
January 4Jan 4 Bill Haley really was a cultural change in music overall hence it taking time to take off! A move from warbling singers to proper bands and rock and roll!
