Its that time of year again! Time to wrap up once again! And what a brilliant year for music it was! This is by far my favourite year musically this decade, as there has been so much incredible output, and also thanks to me turning 18 i have gained the independence to see many of these live for the first time!

Top 200 has been totalled - i keep a rolling chart updating it weekly, as it is points based by chart position - #1 = 50 points, down to #50 = 1 point etc. The latest chart has been added so counting down will begin imminently!

Top 40 Albums of 2024:

20. Greatest Hits - Avril Lavigne

19. Deeper Well - Kacey Musgraves

18. Radical Optimism - Dua Lipa

17. Lover - Taylor Swift

16. The Good Witch - Maisie Peters

Avril starts off the top 20 with her best of compilation, boosted by the fact I saw her live for the first time this summer! The GH really showed how strong her back catalogue is, though I wish it featured some more of her recent material! Kacey released a beautiful album in Deeper Well, and while underwhelming compared to her other albums, Radical Optimism is a strong album from Dua at 18! Lover is at #17 thanks to being the opening set of the Eras Tour, and The Good Witch stayed strong in 2024, after being the biggest album of 2023 for me!

Top 40 Albums of 2024:

15. GUTS - Olivia Rodrigo

14. eternal sunshine - Ariana Grande

13. Short n Sweet - Sabrina Carpenter

12. C,XOXO - Camila Cabello

11. 1989 (Taylor's Version) - Taylor Swift

GUTS continued to do well into 2024, and the deluxe and tour helped that. eternal sunshine is a very underappreciated album imo, some great highlights! Sabrina dominated officially with SNS, and though i do like it it has nothing on emails i can't send, which is a phenomenal release! C,XOXO was very divisive, i fell into the category of an enjoyer, though there are some skips, but the highlights like twentysomethings, June Gloom, Dade County Dreaming and GODSPEED really make up for those! 1989 (Taylor's Version) is at #11, with its standout track Say Don't Go charting all through the year!

10. This Wasn't Meant For You Anyway - Lola Young

I have mentioned it a couple times, but I have been a fan of Lola's for years! Her debut had some incredible songs which did very well last year, but this album pushed her a step higher! Conceited became her highest charting single ever, until Messy, which became her first #1 here in July (once again... i am ahead of the trend :kink: the same way i was for Escapism) and is still charting now! This would no doubt be even higher, had she not postponed her tour from December to March :(

9. Believe Me Now? - Becky Hill

Believe Me Now?, though not *better* than her debut Only Honest On The Weekend, is a true body of work. This album does feel like an album rather than a Greatest Hits, which her debut felt like. It had a solid rollout with some great singles like Disconnect and Never Be Alone, and as a whole the album works so well. Swim and Darkest Hour are two of her very best songs and I am glad she takes time to show off her incredible vocals.

8. THINK LATER - Tate McRae

Think Later came out right at the tail end of 2023, so its momentum continued well into the new year. It is such a brill album, with songs for all the vibes. I love how you have your fun, kiss-off bops like greedy or exes, but also some songs that delve into Tate's personal struggles like calgary or plastic palm trees, this was a incredible follow up to an incredible debut and really shows Tate's personal growth. Experiencing this live the night before my 18th birthday was also very special.

7. COWBOY CARTER - Beyonce

Cowboy Carter is one of those albums that you have to play start to finish. Sure, tracks like Texas Hold Em, Bodyguard, II Most Wanted or Levii's Jeans can easily be played by themselves, but this album is a true experience. From the interludes that flow into songs, to the variery of tracks, this was a crafted album, and it was crafted incredibly! I am really intrigued to see the 3rd installment in this trio of albums from Beyonce, cos this one will be very hard to beat.

6. My 21st Century Blues - RAYE

although this came out early on in 2023, i still can't stop playing it! THE best debut album ever in my opinion, it is just perfect. I also adore the various live versions from Montereux Jazz fest or the Royal Albert Hall, as they are some unique spins on these incredible tracks. And Genesis' release this year really felt like a good way to round out this era (until Oscar Winning Tears went viral lol), I cannot wait to see what else she brings, the bar is so incredibly high.

5. The Rise & Fall Of A Midwest Princess - Chappell Roan

I remember seeing lots of my mutuals posting about this when it came out and i gave it a brief listen and didnt think id ever see it again. That was, until i heard Good Luck, babe, and i instantly got hooked. I went straight back to this album, and wow, what an album it is. Like RAYE, above, technically Chappell only released the one song in glb, but that song feels tied to this album, the way Genesis is tied to m21cb! I cant wait to see what else she brings.

I've never listened to Avril's Greatest Hits but I love every other album in your #11-20 section

'The Good Witch' is comfortably my favourite album of the decade so far so I'm delighted to see it last another year in your top 20. I'm beyond hyped for MP3 now.

I initially thought 'Deeper Well' wasn't as good as Kacey's last couple of albums but I completely changed my mind after seeing her live. The deluxe tracks are all great additions too.

'eternal sunshine' is my album of the year!

Heya! Thanks for commenting! TGW is just so perfect, I adore it so much and I agree, sooo hyped for MP3! I have to say I deeper well isn’t her best, but it is such an easy listening album. So many lovely tracks! Eternal sunshine was great, very underrated imo. Some of her very best work is on it!

4. The Secret of Us - Gracie Abrams

I was late on the Gracie train. I’ve liked some of her stuff in the past but never a true fan till this year. Risk was the song that changed it, such a song! And then the album was so great too! us. Was an immediate highlight but it had so many incredible songs like Blowing Smoke, Let It Happen and Free Now. And rounding it out with the deluxe and That’s So True, which is such a bop! So glad she’s having her moment!

3. Stick Season - Noah Kahan

Noah kicked off this year with a bang, with Stick Season immediately becoming his first #1, alongside multiple further top 10s, the album got its chart moment with the release of the Forever deluxe version, allowing several songs to shine! Although the album feels, like evermore, autumn through and through, i found myself coming back over and over again, and seeing him live twice in summer was a phenomenal experience!

2. BRAT - Charli xcx

I have been a fan of charli for a while, growing up I loved her pop hits, and as i grew up her music also changed alongside my tastes, though some of her more left field stuff isn't my cup of tea. Crash was a solid era, but when she dropped Von dutch i knew i had to be sat for this! Such a wow moment, and then the album came. Truly the soundtrack to summer, and then the deluxe being more mellow in autumn really fitting the autumn vibe too! Such a stunner body of work with so many varied and incredible songs!

1. THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT - Taylor Swift

Who else would it be?! I knew from the moment I pressed play that this would be my AOTY. At first with all 31 tracks it was a lot to process, but I could not stop myself from coming back! and every time i found something new and something more special! Truly a phenomenal album and such a brilliant body of work, as much as I wish Taylor would do more of a classic roll out, the silent treatment worked for ttpd, allowing the music to speak for itself!

A selection from the unlucky bunch who just missed out.

201. A Bar Song (Tipsy) - Shaboozey

I listened before it became a global smash, and though i liked it at first i was tired of it before it even reached the top 10  very overrated officially imo, though a solid song.

203. Misery Business - Paramore

My Eras Tour openers, this standout song of theirs is just 2 points out!

205. Conceited - Lola Young

This made a solid placement last year but it just missed out making the EOY 2 years jn a row! not to worry though as she'll defo be making appearances, including a veeery high up one!

213. Never Lose Me - Flo Milli, SZA & Cardi B

The original was a bop enough, but this remix is just *chefs kiss*

218. Rich Baby Daddy - Drake, SZA & Sexyy Redd

This was unironically suchhh a bop, from SZA's slick verse to Red's earworm hook. The best thing Drake put his name to in yearsss, and this year pushed him even lower into the ground he was sinking into :kink:
