Posted January 14Jan 14 Hey everyone. Hope this query is okay! Thought the experts of this forum would be best to ask. I was listening back to George Michael & Elton John's live @ Wembley rendition of Don't Let the Sun Go Down On Me, and a thought crossed my mind... Have any other live recordings reached number one in the UK singles chart? There must be some I've forgotten about but I couldn't bring any to mind!
January 14Jan 14 Specials- Too Much Too Young George Michael and Queen- Five Live EP Elvis Presley- The Wonder Of You Chuck Berry- My Ding-A-Ling Billy Connolly- Divorce are the ones that come to mind Edited January 14Jan 14 by gasman449
January 14Jan 14 I think the 'live' KLF songs are all studio creations with fake crowd noise, although I also used to think they were real live recordings. The 'S.S.L.' was actually just the brand name of the mixing desk used. A weird one is Black Legend - You See The Trouble With Me, which in its original white label form sampled a 1990 live Barry White concert for the vocals, but for the single release used a soundalike for copyright reasons. January 14Jan 14 Didn’t get to no1 but Dizzee & Florence Brit performance got as high as no2 that year!
January 14Jan 14 Do I get a half point for this? Adele's Someone Like You went to #1 largely off the back of downloads of the Brits performance, IIRC? Edit - think fair to say yes for week 1 anyway. I always preferred it to the studio version. http://www.itunescharts.net/uk/artists/mus...from-the-brits/ Edited January 14Jan 14 by AcerBen
January 14Jan 14 And maybe an honourable mention to Fleur East's X Factor performance of Uptown Funk making #1 on iTunes, but excluded from OCC chart.

The live version was was initially getting most of the airplay too on Heart, Capital, Radio 1, etc. at the time for its 1st couple of weeks at #1. Then they gradually phased it out for the studio version, but there were a couple of weeks where it would be 50:50 which version you'd hear.
January 16Jan 16 The live version was amazing! Agreed, I personally think 'don't forget me, I beg' works so much better in a lower register than falsetto like the studio version. Glad I downloaded it at the time as the live version is not on Spotify. Kudos to RobBot for winning BJSC with a different live version of this song a good few months before she even returned to prominence with the revival of Make You Feel My Love. Rob saw the light (and we all did to vote it to win).
