January 20, 20251 yr Tuned in for a decent chunk of the chart show this week - just in time to hear the Hozier version of 'Do I Wanna Know?' which I was pretty intrigued about, it's a fairly nice cover, I do like the arrangement on the chorus in particular, not a patch on the original but I like that it does something different with it. I did a bit of a double take after that when I heard that 'Carry You Home' was back in the top 40 as I hadn't realised that was having such a second wind - I haven't minded Alex Warren's other hits ('Save You A Seat' is actually quite good) but really not a fan of this one so of course it's his biggest hit lol. Just feels like another Myles Smith and we didn't need the first one. From the rest of what I heard, 'BMF' is growing on me after thinking it was just ok on first listen, though I think it is the weakest of the three songs that have charted from SZA's deluxe still. I am shocked Radio 1 actually play the line 'I can't keep my panties from dropping' uncensored  Also really liking 'PUSH 2 START', I was unconvinced at first that Tyla would have much chart longevity beyond 'Water' but I'm starting to get more of the vibe that she will be sticking around now. From before I tuned in, fantastic to see both 'Headlock' and 'Indigo' making it into the top 40 this week, I remember hearing the former song on nighttime Radio 1 back in the day so I must have known it for at least 15 years which is scary to think, has always been my favourite of the few songs I know from her so thrilled it's the one to belatedly give her a first top 40 hit. And I could still see 'Indigo' continuing to be a slow burning hit for a while to come (yes please x) but failing that I'm just glad it's not ended up stuck with the dreaded #41 peak. Had a first listen to 'I Always Wanted A Brother' the other day and it's fairly cute I suppose but not something I'll want to go back to...! Lol at it being skipped though ~ I need to hear the non-censored version of 'DENIAL IS A RIVER' to form a proper opinion on it but I did hear it on Radio 1 the other day and I think it sounded pretty good, I've found some of her songs to be a little annoying in an attempt to be quirky but I think she's struck the balance right here. And the bit after I tuned out is sadly the least interesting part of the chart, knew it would happen but still ergh at Gracie hanging on for another week and no obvious end in sight still, and really not enthused about either of the songs climbing into the top 10 ('Nice To Meet You' is marginally better than 'Stargazing' but still firmly mid) although at least Jimin is gone again for now. Yay for Sabrina being denied another week at #1 in the albums, she's really glued to that #2 spot. Would have been nice for Franz Ferdinand to finally get a second #1 but they're doing well for themselves to still be able to go top 3. I suspect it's only a matter of time before JADE gets something into the top 40 again but funny to note that still for now Leigh-Anne is both the only solo Mixer to miss the top 10 with her debut single and yet also the only one to be able to get a second top 40 hit!
