Interesting set of songs. I’m not going to go for the obvious choice (Westlife). I do not remember being a fan of the Richard Ashcroft song
Gonna go for The Pogues as it's already been in several times and did well last time. Was between that and Lemar and I don't dislike the Westlife cover of 'I Have A Dream' either so they're spared for me

Westlife is the easy option...but that Lemar song is the definition of dull so I've gone for that.

I don't really mind either of Westlife's covers, even though I don't massively care for the original versions of either, although maybe that's why the covers don't seem like sacrilege. I Have A Dream is definitely not an ABBA fave for me.

I Have A Dream is definitely not an ABBA fave for me.

It wouldn’t be in my ABBA top 20 but I do have affection for it as I was introduced to it very young, and I think there’s a beautiful life message in the lyrics.

After the Bee Gees love in of 1996-1998, it was interesting that 1999 introduced ABBA to a younger generation in various ways with cover hits by Westlife, the BRITs medley (and early Steps’ general ABBA vibe) and A*Teens plus Gold back at No.1, and Sweden winning Eurovision with an ABBA pastiche by Charlotte Nilsson that reached the top 20 here. I think it was quite fitting to have an ABBA song round off the year (and century) at No.1, but the Westlife cover was definitely corny.

Brian said in an interview that, as well as the choice of two 70s covers, they were dressed like Val Doonican in the Seasons in the Sun video to appeal to the older generations
