All 53 of last year's Multicharts have been compiled, so it's time to count down and find out Buzzjack's OFFICIAL favorite songs of the year!

This EOY is compiled in a points-based format based on the weekly Multichart: the #1 each week gets 75 points, the #75 gets 1 point, and so on. You can use that to have an idea of which songs will do well here. Any guesses, hopes, predictions?

  • Girl, so confusing <3 Definitely one of the best tracks of 2024, should have been a long running top 10 for sure

71 602 The Blessed Madonna & Kylie Minogue - Edge Of Saturday Night (23-18-14-10-12-10-16-18-24-34-55-xx) [11 wks]

72 592 Sia & Kylie Minogue - Dance Alone (11-11-11-5-8-9-10-13-30-60-xx) [10 wks]

73 592 Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Freedom Of The Night (42-21-14-9-5-6-9-13-19-30-...) [10 wks]

74 591 Tommy Richman - MILLION DOLLAR BABY (74-39-28-17-11-10-10-13-16-24-28-52-xx) [12 wks]

75 583 Teddy Swims - Lose Control (48-26-25-25-18-17-17-21-20-23-31-41-43-67-xx) [14 wks]

Soft-alpha streaming sensation Teddy Swims aka Pineapple in Buzzjack meme language just about makes the countdown with the overplayed Motown soul pastiche 'Lose Control'. Tommy Richman's funky falsetto TikTok giant 'MILLION DOLLAR BABY' became the R&B-leaning singer's commercial breakthrough and snuck 2 weeks at number 10 on the Multichart. Sophie Ellis-Bextor's first single since the second wind of 'Murder on the Dancefloor' became her 8th Multichart top 10 hit. And 2 Kylie collabs nobody remembers added to her extensive Multichart top 10 history perhaps by default.

66 620 Vampire Weekend - Capricorn (35-26-25-24-17-20-17-18-24-38-33-42-49-xx) [13 wks]

67 613 Adam Port & Stryv feat. Malachiii - Move (36-26-22-24-23-22-28-24-22-27-28-31-62-xx) [13 wks]

68 611 Kygo & Ava Max - Whatever (19-7-9-9-12-12-17-19-29-40-52) [11 wks]

69 610 David Guetta & OneRepublic - I Don't Wanna Wait (37-26-19-17-22-20-21-21-26-33-40-43-73-xx-69-xx-63-xx) [15 wks]

70 608 Sonny Fodera, Jazzy & D.O.D - Somedays (59-46-36-53-39-22-19-18-17-19-19-29-41-39-xx) [14 wks]

Sonny Fodera and Jazzy joined forces to strongly divide Buzzjack opinion with 'Somedays', which still garnered enough fans (myself included) for a #17 peak and sneaking into the top 70 here. Just above it are two songs that heavily sampled 2000s classics in 'Dragostea Din Tei' and 'Whenever, Wherever'. 'Whatever' reached #7 but with just an 11-week run, whereas 'I Don't Wanna Wait' hung around a bit longer including two re-entries. Adam Port's 'Move' made for a brilliant combination of house and Afrobeats, almost as impressive as this chart run where it peaks at #22 three separate times. A remix with Camila Cabello helped it to a #10 peak in the UK. Vampire Weekends rounds off this section with 'Capricorn', a long-awaited comeback from them after 5 years between albums!

'Capricorn' almost certainly my highlight of the entire list already!

That thrice peaking at #22 run of 'Move' is indeed aesthetically pleasing.

61 680 Jamie xx feat. Robyn - Life (50-24-11-10-9-9-12-11-15-20-34-48-55-xx) [13 wks]

62 671 Nemo - The Code (75-48-31-39-34-22-6-6-5-5-7-13-14-46-xx) [14 wks]

63 645 Tove Lo & SG Lewis - HEAT (26-27-12-15-15-18-18-18-19-27-43-48-57-xx) [13 wks]

64 635 Kesha - JOYRIDE (37-18-20-16-15-14-18-26-28-47-53-54-62-63-xx-70-73-63-56-xx) [18 wks]

65 632 Olivia Rodrigo - obsessed (9-9-6-7-10-10-12-15-17-33-xx) [10 wks]

Olivia Rodrigo's manic pop rocker 'obsessed' surprisingly features St Vincent on guitar and was a fleeting top 10 hit both on the Multichart and in the UK. 'JOYRIDE' was Kesha's first release since departing from her Dr. Luke nightmare of RCA and Kemosabe Records. The wild and wacky tune recalls the sound of her earlier music, and became her highest charting song on the Multichart since 'Praying' in 2017.

Frequent collaborators Tove Lo and SG Lewis released a whole EP together on Tove's independent label. The EP's title track and lead single 'HEAT' had a Kylie Fever-like vibe and was co-produced by Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs. 2024's Eurovision winner Nemo didn't quite reach the same heights as Loreen the year before. Aside from a dizzying cover art, Jamie xx and Robyn also brought us 'Life' with their anthemic, fun electronic banger which became Jamie xx's first Multichart top 10 hit as a solo artist.

Didn't realise Freedom of the Night peaked so high, great to see!

The Code, JOYRIDE and obsessed  and of course noted Buzzfave Whatever :cheeseblock:

56 700 Post Malone feat. Morgan Wallen - I Had Some Help (36-33-19-12-14-12-12-11-16-24-40-62-51-58-55-62-xx) [16 wks]

57 694 JADE - Fantasy (19-9-5-5-3-3-3-4-7-8-...) [10 wks]

58 693 Lady Gaga - Disease (43-5-2-2-2-2-2-2-3-4-...) [10 wks]

59 692 Zara Larsson - You Love Who You Love (28-16-10-10-9-10-12-16-14-27-24-44-xx) [12 wks]

60 685 Kylie Minogue, Bebe Rexha & Tove Lo - My Oh My (16-11-10-9-9-8-14-18-21-32-38-46-71-xx) [13 wks]

Kylie already makes her third appearance with another collab, 'My Oh My' at #60. Zara Larsson added another Multichart top 10 to her tally with 'You Love Who You Love', peaking at #9. Lady Gaga's 'Disease' fell just short of #1, stuck behind 'APT.' for six weeks, but has a decent finish here with just 10 charting weeks. Same goes for JADE's 'Fantasy', which was the #3 for three of those weeks. Two not-so-Buzzjack-friendly artists, Post Malone and Morgan Wallen, earned some love with their country collab 'I Had Some Help', indeed helping each other to a #11 peak and #56 on this countdown.

51 741 Linkin Park - The Emptiness Machine (33-15-13-10-12-14-21-20-19-29-23-35-32-47-xx) [14 wks]

52 739 ROSÉ & Bruno Mars - APT. (12-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-...) [10 wks]

53 735 Eminem - Houdini (20-6-6-6-8-7-9-13-22-23-28-34-71-xx) [13 wks]

54 734 FKA twigs - Eusexua (30-19-14-13-13-17-22-25-31-26-29-65-35-38-29-...) [15 wks]

55 709 Billie Eilish - LUNCH (24-8-4-2-5-4-7-10-14-27-32-66-xx) [12 wks]

Billie Eilish's oral sex anthem 'LUNCH' peaked one position higher than 'BIRDS OF A FEATHER' but didn't quite have the same longevity. The critically acclaimed 'Eusexua' by FKA twigs found the singer embrace Prague techno and add a new word to the English dictionary. The song became twigs' first Multichart top 20 since 'Two Weeks' in 2014.

Eminem's comeback single 'Houdini' may have gone one better than Dua's song of the same name and topped the UK chart, but its number six peak here is a far cry from Dua's 10 weeks at number one on the Multichart. Speaking of long-running chart toppers, 'APT' which was an unlucky #2 officially, is on course to surpass Rita Ora's 'Anywhere' for most weeks at number one on the Multichart (currently 11 weeks and counting). Linkin Park bring some hard rock edge to the countdown with 'The Emptiness Machine', their first single as a new lineup featuring Emily Armstrong on vocals and Colin Brittain on drums.

46 778 Tate McRae - exes (...-3-2-2-4-4-5-8-12-18-15-28-29-36-53-70-xx) [20 wks]

47 770 Fontaines D.C. - Starburster (51-16-13-16-15-18-17-19-17-34-27-22-31-51-41-58-xx) [16 wks]

48 753 Ariana Grande - the boy is mine (45-40-49-61-xx-35-9-10-10-12-19-19-24-22-23-33-52-xx) [16 wks]

49 747 Sabrina Carpenter - Bed Chem (70-52-51-29-30-26-23-22-17-11-12-11-10-13-16-...) [15 wks]

50 746 Kylie Minogue - Lights Camera Action (73-12-3-2-2-2-3-3-7-11-15-43-66-xx) [13 wks]

Kicking off the top 50 is Kylie's fourth and final entry this year, 'Lights Camera Action' was the lead single of Tension II and, perhaps appropriately, peaked at #2 here. 'Bed Chem' showed early potential as an album track and slowly inched its way up to #10 on the Multichart, by which time it was Sabrina's next single (still no video for it though :snif:). Similar story with 'the boy is mine', Ariana's third single from eternal sunshine; she cleverly got Brandy and Monica (you might know their song of the same name) to join her on the remix!

Fontaines D.C. had a successful 2024! Lead single 'Starburster' was their first ever entry in the UK Singles Chart, reaching #57, and here it was their highest peak to date at #13. Tate McRae's first of two entries is 'exes', a song you might associate with 2023, but January '24 is when it peaked at #2 and had the majority of its chart run. It's ok, her current era will be represented later on x

41 831 Charli xcx - 365 (66-xx-33-26-20-20-19-26-25-31-25-41-55-26-25-33-33-70-xx-33-44-52-62-...) [21 wks]

43 829 Angelina Mango - La noia (40-27-22-26-23-16-19-30-23-33-36-26-15-18-23-42-47-73-xx) [18 wks]

44 821 Becky Hill & Sonny Fodera - Never Be Alone (10-6-7-6-8-9-7-9-10-11-18-26-42-74-xx) [14 wks]

45 782 Noah Kahan - Stick Season (...-6-4-5-5-4-6-8-13-24-27-39-50-42-58-67) [25 wks]

Noah Kahan continued to sing about Covid on a plane throughout 2024 with the folky, inescapable 'Stick Season'. Becky Hill and Sonny Fodera's worlds of basic bop dance collided on 'Never Be Alone', a lengthy top 10 hit on the Multi despite stalling at 23 officially. 'La noia' is the 2nd highest Eurovision entry on the countdown with its long chart run helping it finish higher than contest winner Nemo. Angelina Mango had only charted once before with 'Ci pensiamo domani' reaching number 55 in 2023. Tate McRae scored her 7th Multichart top 10 hit with the whispery 'It's ok I'm ok', and the unlucky #41 is... the undisputed SOTY aka '365' by Godli xcx which soundtracked everyone's summer despite never getting the single treatment (bumpin' that).

Oh somehow missed this thread until now!

‘Capricorn’, ‘Eusexua’ and ‘Starburster’ were all #1s for me, taste

36 873 Madison Beer - Make You Mine (29-21-16-21-22-19-15-12-14-17-23-22-25-39-48-50-46-66-67-75-xx) [20 wks]

37 868 Coldplay, Little Simz, Burna Boy, Elyanna & TINI - WE PRAY (31-17-11-11-11-8-6-11-13-14-18-22-28-33-52-62-xx) [16 wks]

38 851 The Last Dinner Party - Nothing Matters (25-20-14-9-5-5-10-8-6-10-13-18-27-43-xx) [14 wks]

39 848 The Weeknd - Dancing In The Flames (14-9-5-5-6-7-10-10-11-17-23-30-37-42-66-...) [15 wks]

40 838 Ella Henderson feat. Rudimental - Alibi (12-7-8-4-4-6-7-8-11-11-17-36-37-58-xx) [14 wks]

Kicking off the top 40 is Ella Henderson and Rudimental, who've been reduced to sampling 'Gangsta's Paradise', but it seems most of us didn't mind! In fact 'Alibi' is the highest-peaking song in this section at #4. The Weeknd released 'Dancing In The Flames' to introduce his latest album, quickly adding another top 5 to his tally. Will it really be his last album as The Weeknd tho? Critical darlings and Sound of 2024 winners The Last Dinner Party lived up to the hype with top 5 hit 'Nothing Matters', a song many of us have known since 2023 when WhoOdyssey sent it to BJSC!

'WE PRAY' is Coldplay's first of two entries, a collab with the likes of Burna Boy and Little Simz worked surprisingly well for them. It stalled at #11 for a bit but managed a #6 peak in the end. And Madison Beer grabbed some attention with long-running hit 'Make You Mine', it did quite well for her with a #12 peak and 20-week run!

31 929 Olly Alexander - Dizzy (14-7-6-8-8-8-12-13-12-11-10-10-16-28-48-xx) [15 wks]

32 928 Coldplay - feelslikeimfallinginlove (29-15-18-8-12-14-16-17-17-16-33-32-36-29-33-26-39-50-xx) [18 wks]

35 895 Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Murder On The Dancefloor (19-3-3-3-3-3-3-4-4-9-14-23-36-54-64-xx) [15 wks]

Thanks to the movie Saltburn and TikTok, Sophie Ellis-Bextor's 2001 hit 'Murder on the Dancefloor' had a huge revival last year, becoming her first Multichart top 3 hit since 'Catch You' in 2007. Shaboozey who topped the Hot 100 for 19 weeks and only peaked at #14 on the Multichart is boosted up the countdown thanks to a lengthy chart run. A similar story for Joseph fave and professional backflipper Benson Boone whose 'Slow It Down' stalled just outside the top 15 for several weeks. Coldplay returned with some annoyingly-titled bland radio pop that snuck a week in the top 10. And Olly Alexander finishes the highest of all 2024 Eurovision entries in this countdown despite flopping in the actual contest.

26 1084 Hozier - Too Sweet (66-25-12-8-5-5-3-4-4-4-8-12-19-18-20-27-38-33-75-61-68-73-xx) [22 wks]

27 1053 Taylor Swift feat. Post Malone - Fortnight (15-8-7-7-9-6-6-8-11-11-14-20-23-31-39-33-45-61-xx-61-60-68-xx) [21 wks]

28 997 Beyoncé - TEXAS HOLD 'EM (22-5-3-2-2-2-3-3-3-5-7-13-23-27-42-57-xx) [16 wks]

29 963 Chappell Roan - Pink Pony Club (42-26-29-27-29-26-18-17-17-15-15-15-16-20-25-36-43-41-45-55-...) [20 wks]

30 933 Djo - End Of Beginning (38-19-15-13-7-6-5-7-9-12-14-14-24-30-30-40-xx) [16 wks]

I hear the final season of Stranger Things is expected this year, in the meantime one of its actors is at #30 with 'End Of Beginning', one of last year's surprise hits. Above that, we finally have Chappell Roan's first of three entries, 'Pink Pony Club' makes the top 30 despite only peaking at #15, and there's certainly a chance it could be in next year's EOY too. Beyoncé going country was a huge moment, not quite huge enough for a Multichart #1 but 'TEXAS HOLD 'EM' did have a respectable run with three weeks at #2 (stuck behind 'Training Season' to be fair).

At #27 we break the 1000-point threshold with none other than Taylor Swift and her collab partner Post Malone. 'Fortnight' lived up to its name by spending a fortnight at its #6 peak on the Multichart. Hozier's 'Too Sweet' makes a third UK #1 in this section, speaking of threes it peaked at #3 on the Multi, and Hozier takes his bed at 3:00...okay I'll stop now

21 1172 Charli xcx - Von dutch (10-4-5-4-4-4-6-8-15-20-43-54-66-61-46-29-25-28-32-44-61-52-42-54-59-57-xx-47-xx) [27 wks]

23 1148 Charli xcx feat. Lorde - Girl, so confusing (43-9-6-3-4-5-7-10-10-10-13-12-15-23-28-37-46-23-28-60-xx-56-xx) [21 wks]

24 1129 Addison Rae - Diet Pepsi (47-37-33-20-13-13-14-13-10-5-6-8-6-8-10-15-14-33-41-46-...) [20 wks]

25 1116 Artemas - i like way you kiss me (28-7-5-2-3-4-4-5-5-7-10-17-22-22-30-29-35-37-57-xx-75-xx) [20 wks]

English singer-producer Artemas brought back 80s-style coldwave to the charts with 'i like the way you kiss me'. TikTok influencer-turned-extremely interesting pop star Addison Rae had her commercial breakthrough with 'Diet P', an infectious slice of Lana-meets-Britney In the Zone pop. Charli's BRAT era spawned 6 Multichart top 5 hits with 4 of them peaking at #3. Cultural reset 'Girl, so confusing' is the first of them to appear here; the most acclaimed track of the era, it soared into the top 3 despite only being a promo single. Charli and Lorde famously sang the song together drunk at Charli's birthday party.

Ariana Grande kicked off her eternal sunshine era in a big-way with her Vogue-like kiss-off to the haters 'yes, and?'; it became her 7th Multichart #1 and her first since 'Rain On Me' in 2020. Charli's electroclash and Grammy-winning stomper 'Von dutch' just misses the countdown top 20. The song which introduced BRAT is surprisingly the lowest-peaking of all the BRAT singles but spent an impressive 27 weeks charting.

Girl, so confusing <3

Definitely one of the best tracks of 2024, should have been a long running top 10 for sure

16 1235 Benson Boone - Beautiful Things (42-13-11-7-7-6-4-6-8-7-10-10-14-16-18-28-33-37-36-39-51-56-55-xx) [23 wks]

17 1229 Charli xcx feat. Troye Sivan - Talk talk (74-31-36-58-xx-48-60-34-32-33-58-75-xx-40-8-6-4-4-3-5-7-9-18-15-17-16-31-40-61-...) [27 wks]

18 1224 Dua Lipa - Houdini (...-1-1-1-1-2-2-2-2-3-5-11-12-12-13-21-28-27-44-47-27-58-56-73) [30 wks]

19 1223 Charli xcx feat. Billie Eilish - Guess (29-6-2-2-2-2-2-2-3-3-9-9-11-17-28-43-56-40-29-34-44-xx) [21 wks]

20 1179 JADE - Angel Of My Dreams (4-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-4-4-6-11-17-16-25-30-36-49-56-xx) [19 wks]

JADE was the last Little Mix member to release solo music, but also the first and only one so far to have a #1 on the Multichart so far. 'Angel Of My Dreams' just makes it in the top 20! Charli xcx and Billie Eilish got our attention with the remix of 'Guess', an instant UK #1 and Charli's first chart-topper as lead artist. On the Multichart however it was stuck at #2 behind the aforementioned JADE track. Dua Lipa's #1 reign with 'Houdini' carried over into 2024 and the song had enough longevity to land at #18 on the EOY. It's the highest-placing song to have had part of its run in 2023.

Another Charli collab next, this time with tourmate Troye Sivan. The solo version of 'Talk talk' had already charted for 11 weeks and then the remix catapulted it up to a #3 peak, adding to Brat's impressive tally of top-5 Multi hits. More longevity here from Benson Boone, peaked at #4 and spent 23 weeks in the chart to end up at #16 here. This song can currently be found back in the UK top 10 avoiding ACR x

'Angel Of My Dreams', 'Guess' and 'Houdini' were all top 5 hits for me from that last section! Pop girlies bringing the fun and banging beats.

JADE sold the hell out of her BRITs performance yesterday.

15 1274 Sabrina Carpenter - Taste (9-3-3-1-1-1-1-1-1-3-4-4-4-5-8-11-15-19-...) [18 wks]

Sabrina Carpenter, who recently sent Ofcom complainers into meltdown after her BRITs performance, tasted 3 consecutive number ones on both the UK chart and Multichart last year. Dua Lipa scored her 14th Multichart-topper with 'Training Season' which was the best-selling cassette single in the UK last year. When will Rachel Lester? The ABBA-esque tune details Lipa's demands from romantic partners as she chides bad dates.

Queen of physical variants Taylor Swift's 'I Can Do It With A Broken Vocals' is at #13 here despite only peaking at #10. Perhaps helped by its extremely drawn-out single release resulting in 29 weeks on the chart. Dua's summery banger 'Illusion' surprisingly places higher than 'Training Season' even though it stalled at #2 for 5 weeks behind 'we can't be friends (wait for your love)' and 'Espresso'. And just missing out on the top 10 is the Bruno Mars-heavy Lady Gaga single 'Die With A Smile', a very Radio 2 MOR-ish track or what the Facebook mums like to call "real music".

10 1307 Sabrina Carpenter - Please Please Please (20-4-2-2-1-1-1-2-2-3-6-8-9-9-10-15-20-23-33-57-61-xx) [21 wks]

Into the top 10 and we have another song from Sabrina Carpenter, Sabby Carps, Sab Cab passenger princess. The song with three pleases in its name fittingly enjoyed three weeks at #1 on the Multichart. In fact, Sabrina replaced herself at the top with 'Please Please Please' overtaking 'Espresso', which is still to be revealed here. Sabrina's witty and clever lyrics are on full display and the 70s-style production stood out from the crowd. Thank you AND you're welcome, polite queen!
