Whether she’s penning defiantly joyous singles like “Boom Clap” or exploring her glitchier, chaotic side on “Vroom Vroom”, Charli’s success comes from her work both in and out of pop music’s formulaic lane. Born Charlotte Aitchison in 1992 in Cambridge to Scottish and Gujarati Indian parents, she took up songwriting at 14, lifting her stage name from her instant messenger handle. On the strength of her MySpace uploads and performances at London raves, she landed a record deal at 18, released the modestly successful darkwave cuts “Stay Away” and “Nuclear Seasons”, and then hit the big time with 2012’s kiss-off anthem “I Love It”. Originally scrapped from her own album for being too poppy, the beat-pounding re-recording by Swedish duo Icona Pop quickly became a worldwide dance-floor favourite. Her goth-tinged debut album, 2013’s True Romance, and tracks like the psychedelic, Gold Panda-sampling “You (Ha Ha Ha)” soon positioned Charli as the missing link between Grimes’ freak scene, Lorde’s dark melodies and Carly Rae Jepsen’s sweetness. But while that album and its follow-up, 2014’s synth-poppy Sucker, brought Charli a few steps closer to mainstream approval, she found more creative freedom among the esoteric, hyperpop wilds of 2016’s Vroom Vroom EP and 2017’s twin mixtapes, Number 1 Angel and Pop 2. While stardom eluded her, Charli built a track record as a prolific songwriter and collaborator, penning standard pop hits for Iggy Azalea (“Fancy”) and Selena Gomez (“Same Old Love”), and working with the likes of Lil Yachty, David Guetta and BTS. Yet Charli shines brightest when she’s illuminating, breaking down and even critiquing the industry that gives her acclaim. In 2020, a year after the release of her eclectic, star-studded third album, Charli, she released the intimate how i’m feeling now, an album written in six weeks during the pandemic with input from fans alongside extensive, real-time video diaries and notes. Two years later, she experimented with the act of selling out on her fourth album, CRASH, using her major record label’s A&R expertise to write the mainstream pop record she’d always been afraid to release. That album’s success, coupled with a prominent feature (“Speed Drive”) on 2023’s blockbuster Barbie soundtrack, brought Charli closer than ever to worldwide appeal. But her response was to turn back to the sounds that inspired her to make music in the first place. Her 2024 album, BRAT, is a homage to those riotous, sweaty London clubs of her youth, and an introspective—if not slightly ironic—look at her pop music journey, one riddled with head-empty euphoria (“Club classics”), dominating swagger (“Von dutch”) and sombre sentimentality (“I think about it all the time”). - Apple MusicTop 100 Chart HistoryCharli xcx2013 01 I Love It (Icona Pop feat. Adele Adkins honed hers as a kid in her North London bedroom, imitating Etta James every night for an hour. But as soon as she made her television debut at age 19 in 2007, all potential comparisons evaporated: this girl with whopping hoop earrings and a pub landlady’s brashness had something unique. Heartbreak, indignation and regret all found a natural home in her regal mezzo-soprano, the instrument that powered her 2008 debut album, 19, and took influence from the American South on 2011’s 21. Both of these albums broke records for breaking records, which made a subsequent operation on Adele’s vocal cords a matter of global import. She recovered immaculately—for proof, watch her performance of “Rolling in the Deep” at the 2012 Grammys—and it took just one word to reintroduce her in 2015. “Hello”, she sang during an X Factor ad break, unveiling her third album, 25, in the process. Songs like the swirling “Send My Love (To Your New Lover)” and the pensive “Water Under the Bridge” helped it become yet another global chart-topper. In 2021, Adele released 30, which grappled with motherhood, the aftermath of her divorce and—perhaps most surprisingly—happiness amid life’s upheavals. She embarked on a Las Vegas residency in 2022, showcasing her formidable catalogue and era-defining voice. - Apple MusicTop 100 Chart History2008 02 Chasing Pavements -2- MILLIONAIRE2008 19 Hometown Glory -1/4- MILLIONAIRE2008 18 Cold Shoulder -3-2008 04 Make You Feel My Love -5- MILLION SELLER2011 02 Rolling In The Deep -1- MILLION SELLER2011 01 Someone Like You -2- MILLION SELLER2011 11 Set Fire To The Rain -3- MILLIONAIRE2011 62 Turning Tables -AT-2011 85 Rumour Has It -4-2012 99 One And Only -AT-2012 37 I Can't Make You Love Me -AT-2012 02 Skyfall -OST- MILLIONAIRE2015 01 Hello -1- MILLIONAIRE2015 09 When We Were Young -2- MILLIONAIRE2015 64 Million Years Ago -AT-2016 41 All I Ask -AT-2016 05 Send My Love (To Your New Lover) -3- MILLIONAIRE2016 39 Water Under The Bridge -4-2021 76 Love In The Dark -AT-2021 01 Easy On Me -1- MILLIONAIRE2021 02 Oh My God -2-2021 04 I Drink Wine -3-3 x #1 | 9 x Top 5 | 10 x Top 10 | 13 x Top 20 | 15 x Top 40 | 21 x Top 100Social Media Adele

But the New York rapper’s charm and authenticity are qualities that don’t fade. Queens native Tecca, born Tyler-Justin Anthony Sharpe in 2002, started rapping at age nine, freestyling dis tracks with his friends on Xbox. By the time he was a teenager, he was uploading his songs, honing an imagistic style carried by his singsong cadence. Some of those early tracks did considerable numbers—enough to catch the attention of Internet Money Records’ Taz Taylor, who tweeted that he wanted to work with Tecca. With his parents’ blessing, the 16-year-old and his manager flew out west and joined Taylor in the studio to record “Ransom,” a dancehall-flavored introduction to Tecca’s easy flow and sweetly confident demeanor. With some savvy online promotion, the song promptly turned the internet on its ear upon its 2018 release. His mixtape We Love You Tecca followed in 2019, along with features and cosigns from Trippie Redd, A Boogie wit da Hoodie, Lil Tjay, and more. In 2020, Tecca revealed more of himself—both his down-to-earth demeanor and his evident ambition—on his debut album, Virgo World, which boasted not just features from Lil Durk and Lil Uzi Vert but even production from Skrillex. After all, as Tecca told Apple Music about “Ransom,” “When I said ‘I got black, I got white,’ I meant, I got everything. But for Lady Gaga—one of popular culture’s greatest, most extravagant creations—the inauthenticity is the point. No artist has more defiantly embodied that provocation this century than the one born Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta (in New York in 1986). Never wedded to the same image—her most memorable looks (among many) have included a gown fashioned from raw meat, a red-carpet-appropriate pair of dish gloves, and “the world’s first flying dress”—Gaga personifies pop’s surface obsessions while simultaneously upending them. In a sense, her creative identity had crystallized by age 21; she’d been a child pianist, aspiring actor, and burlesque performer. Each of these facets powered her career’s most distinct parts: the celebrity fascination of her first two albums, 2008’s The Fame and 2009’s The Fame Monster; the subversive layering of 2011’s Born This Way and 2013’s ARTPOP; the sincere reverence of 2014’s Cheek to Cheek, her jazz standards album with Tony Bennett; the rootsier songwriting of 2016’s Joanne; and 2020’s jubilant return to her neon-hued electro roots, Chromatica. If the 2009 smash “Paparazzi” reveled in the flashes, then “Born This Way” celebrated inner light: In translating her diffuse identity into world-conquering art, Gaga has become a beacon to anyone else who’s felt like an outsider. Her loyal following of Little Monsters has affirmed a deep connection to her message of self-love and self-expression, despite pop’s fickleness and her chameleonic exterior. She played out a simpler version of her path to fame in the Oscar-worthy 2018 remake of A Star Is Born. But while her character’s ascent was abetted by her lover, Gaga’s was all her own. - Apple MusicBruno MarsBruno Mars has a good story about Prince: Mars is hanging out at an awards show, during a commercial break. The crowd is filled with celebrities. Suddenly, Mars feels the room shift, people part, and there he is, Mars told Apple Music in a 2016 interview—Prince, “just floating by, levitating by.” Prince catches Mars’ eye and gives him a thumbs-up, and Mars—stunned—gives Prince a thumbs-up back. “And that’s it,” Mars said. “What more can you ask?” More than a Prince cosign? How about a stack of multiplatinum records? The privilege of being able to entertain people the world over? Mars has those too. But you get the sense that the nod from Prince was affirmation of a higher order. Even when he was living on instant ramen noodles and trying to find his way into the industry, Mars knew he didn’t just want to be a songwriter or a singer or a producer, but—like Prince, or maybe Michael Jackson—a total pop package, the kind of artist who’s as powerful in the studio as they are onstage. Those records, though: “Uptown Funk,” “Locked Out of Heaven,” “That’s What I Like.” Fun, omnivorous, generation-bridging. The kind of stuff that Mom will be pulling you onto the dance floor for. Mars could do old-fashioned showmanship, could credibly play the crooner with a live band to boot. But he also had an ear for hip-hop and R&B, could—like all great pop—collapse the distance between then and now, Black music and white. Most of all, he knew how much retro was retro enough: Music that made you think about the past, not pine for it. Born Peter Hernandez in Honolulu in 1985, Mars took the stage early, famously doing Elvis impersonations with a family revue at a local hotel before he even hit kindergarten. (In one formative moment, young Mars wet his jumpsuit during “Can’t Help Falling In Love,” but finished without flinching.) As a teenager, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue a deal with Motown Records. The deal went nowhere, but Mars kept himself afloat by writing and producing with a team called The Smeezingtons, which he helped found. In 2010, he released his debut, Doo-Wops & Hooligans. By 2012’s Unorthodox Jukebox, the image had gotten a little grittier, the sound a little more diverse, and the retro affectations—goodbye, pompadour—a little less pronounced. Leaning on the slick bounce of ’80s and ’90s funk and R&B, 24K Magic followed in 2016, sweeping its nominations at the Grammys. A confessed perfectionist, Mars pushes on. “All the statues or Time magazine—that s**t is beautiful and made my parents and my family proud and all that,” he told Apple Music. “But there’s this battle within—that you always wanna. You got this fighter’s spirit. I still feel like I’m chasing to prove something to myself, that I got a better song in me.” - Apple MusicTop 100 Chart HistoryLady Gaga2009 01 Just Dance (feat. Born and raised in 1994 in the northeastern English town of North Shields, the singer/songwriter first picked up a guitar at age 10 and began playing gigs locally as a teen to help support him and his mother. But it wasn’t until he started writing music for himself—rather than what he thought others wanted to hear—that everything started to click. That’s when he wrote his 2017 debut single, “Play God”, a propulsive, politically charged slice of indie rock. It came from a place of deep desperation, “a time where I was like, ‘I need to prove myself. I need to do something that cuts through,’” he told Apple Music. The track earned him a slot on BBC’s Sound of 2018 shortlist, which led to a deal with Polydor Records and the release of his acclaimed 2019 debut, Hypersonic Missiles, an album that channels modern-day anxiety through heartfelt heartland rock. His 2021 follow-up, Seventeen Going Under, hit even harder, pumped full of soaring arrangements and bold statements that continue to prove Fender’s power as a mighty millennial voice for the working class. - Apple MusicTop 100 Chart History2019 89 Play God -1-2019 48 Hypersonic Missiles -2- MILLIONAIRE2019 43 Will We Talk? -3-2019 59 The Borders -IG-2021 03 Seventeen Going Under -1- MILLIONAIRE2021 48 Get You Down -2-2021 41 Spit Of You -3-2022 47 Getting Started -4-2022 61 Alright -PS-2022 71 Wild Grey Ocean -5-2024 05 Homesick (Noah Kahan & Sam Fender)2024 04 People Watching -1-2025 14 Arm's Length -2-2025 94 Wild Long Lie -IG-2025 48 Remember My Name -IG-2025 24 Little Bit Closer -AT-0 x #1 | 3 x Top 5 | 3 x Top 10 | 4 x Top 20 | 5 x Top 40 | 16 x Top 100Social Media Sam Fender
March 21, 20251 yr Author 22 | 21 | 22nd weekGracie AbramsThat's So True4th single from The Secret of UsReleased: 18th October 2024Label: Gracie AbramsChart StatisticsNE (31/10/2024) | 19-3-1-1-1-1-1-2-2-21-1-1-1-3-3-3-14-17-19-21-21-22Sales: 800,000+Certification: PlatinumStatus: Accelerated Chart Ratio12 Sales01 Audio Streamingxx Video StreamingVideoBiographyLos Angeles singer/songwriter Gracie Abrams has a talent for cutting to the quick. A song about a breakup’s messy aftermath, “21” opens bluntly with the line: “I missed your 21st birthday.” Another song about finding it hard to move on revolves around the simple admission, “I miss you, I’m sorry.” Abrams’ swift incisions are particularly notable given that her father is director J.J. Abrams, whose television series Lost boasted such ingeniously convoluted plotlines. Born in 1999, the Los Angeles native grew up listening to Joni Mitchell and Elliott Smith, but it wasn’t until she discovered Phoebe Bridgers, at age 13, that she began writing her own songs. She wrote “minor”—about a crush who lived too far away for her to visit before curfew—at age 17. “It was the first time that I’d written a song where I felt like I wasn’t trying to emulate someone else’s sound,” she tells Apple Music. Even Abrams’ early singles display a wisdom beyond her years. Released when she was 20, “21” revolves around the devastating line, “You’ll be the love of my life when I was young”—an elegant example of her knack for turning an idea as simple as “young love” into a complex meditation on life’s changes. “Looking back is unattractive to me,” she acknowledges, yet while preparing her first long-form statement—2020’s minor—she realized she needed to reflect to move forward. “Thinking about what that meant and how the songs needed to exist together,” she says, the experience of writing “minor” as a teen never went away. “It was always in the back of my head. I didn’t want to run away from it.” - Apple MusicTop 100 Chart History2023 72 Everywhere, Everything (Noah Kahan & Gracie Abrams)2024 81 I miss you, I'm sorry -1-2024 67 Risk -1-2024 31 Close To You -2-2024 37 us. March 21, 20251 yr Author 21 | | 1st weekPlayboi Carti and SkeptaTOXICAlbum track from MUSICReleased: 14th March 2025Label: AWGE / Interscope RecordsChart StatisticsNE (27/03/2025) | 21Sales: -Certification: -Status: Standard Chart Ratioxx Salesxx Audio Streamingxx Video StreamingVideoBiographyPlayboi Carti is one of those rappers who represent a creative line in the sand: either you’re with it or you ain’t. Punky, exhilarating and daringly simple, Carti’s music pushes the bright minimalism of 2010s trap to almost abstract extremes, combining twinkly synths with noisy bass and a flow that sounds like one long ad-lib, or—yeah, let’s get it out there—baby talk. The gambit is clear: like Cam’ron’s embrace of the colour pink or Young Thug’s trailblazing sing-song, Carti’s babble is a middle finger to preconceived notions of what it means to be a rapper, and to rap’s general tendency toward masculine tough talk—or, as a line on 2018’s “R.I.P.” went, “Fuck that mumblin’ shit, fuck that mumblin’ shit/Bought a crib for my momma off that mumblin’ shit.” Forget being a voice of authority—there are times it doesn’t even sound like Carti is saying words. Born Jordan Carter in 1996, Carti got his start in the Atlanta underground, connecting with A$AP Rocky at a festival in 2015—a relationship that vaulted him toward the mainstream and also put him at the emerging junction between streetwear and high fashion. (He may be one of the few people to have eaten nuggets from McDonald’s while being outfitted for a Louis Vuitton runway show.) If 2017’s Playboi Carti (which included the Lil Uzi Vert collaboration “Wokeuplikethis*” and the ubiquitous “Magnolia”) set the bar, 2018’s Die Lit ripped it out and knocked a wall down with it. Carti continued tearing down boundaries with Whole Lotta Red, a dystopian LP that pushed the limits of his vocal dexterity. A barrage of frenzied murmurs and pixelated soundscapes, the LP only reaffirmed Carti’s status as one of the most innovative stylists of his era. - Apple MusicTop 100 Chart HistoryPlayboi Carti2017 81 Summer Bummer (Lana Del Rey feat. Instead, he bought it. After all, he figured if someone puts your name next to Tupac, you must be doing something right. Born Aubrey Drake Graham in Toronto in 1986, he—like Tupac—became the voice of a generation and prism for his pop-cultural moment, starting with 2011’s sumptuous Take Care, a career-defining magnum opus that’s included in Apple Music’s 100 Best Albums list. Was he an R&B singer who rapped or a rapper who sang? Was he really that sad, or just exploiting a cultural preference for male vulnerability? From the jump, he let his contradictions define him: tender but cruel, sober one minute and drunk-dialing the next, a guy who could convince you he was an underdog from his perch on top of the world. Yet as lurid as his inner world is, the proof lies in his reach outward. A Drake project can incorporate house and club music (2017’s More Life, 2022’s Honestly, Nevermind) and red-eyed trap (2022’s 21 Savage collab Her Loss) with equal conviction and at no loss to the subjectivity at the center. “I obviously spend a lot of time in my own world,” he told Apple Music in 2016. “But when I do take a look at the broader scope of things, I’ve always tried to make music that transcends gender, nationality—to try and unify people. Because that’s really what it’s about.” Even after cementing his prowess many times over, Drake still retains the capacity to surprise. His 2023 poetry collection Titles Ruin Everything with repeat collaborator Kenza Samir proved intentionally fragmented, while his very public 2024 beef with Kendrick Lamar became a focal point not just in hip-hop fandom, but also global mainstream culture. At this point, he’s such an indelible part of the firmament that his slightest move can trigger aftershocks far beyond his immediate reach. - Apple MusicTop 100 Chart History2009 42 Forever (feat. Born in 2003 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, she worked her way up to the finals on So You Think You Can Dance at age 13, following other impressive milestones as a live performer. McRae answered her overnight TV success by uploading a series of singles that showcased the preternatural depth of her singing and songwriting. Signed to a major label when she was 16, she struck gold globally with 2020’s “you broke me first,” adding ominous trap beats to an intimate lament. But rather than be pigeonholed by weepy ballads, McRae quickly showcased her full range with convincing forays into dreamy alt-rock and purring R&B on 2022’s i used to think i could fly. Coming off even more emboldened on 2023’s THINK LATER, she greets her entry into her twenties with a well-earned sense of confidence on tracks like the chirping kiss-off “exes.” Echoing her penchant for inhabiting a deep bench of musical styles without breaking her stride, she seems just as much at home in the role of a nonchalant heartbreaker as in the role of the one at home nursing a broken heart. - Apple MusicTop 100 Chart History2020 03 you broke me first -1- MILLIONAIRE2021 46 You (Regard, Troye Sivan & Tate McRae)2021 82 that way -1-2021 52 feel like shit -1-2022 14 she's all i wanna be -2-2022 36 chaotic -PS-2022 84 what would you do? -3-2022 76 uh oh -NAS-2022 08 10:35 (Tiësto & Tate McRae)2023 03 greedy -1- MILLIONAIRE2023 12 exes -2-2023 55 run for the hills -AT-2024 14 It's ok I'm ok -1-2024 08 2 hands -2-2025 03 Sports car -3-2025 09 Revolving door -AT-2025 25 I know love (feat. In 2012, she passed an audition to become a K-pop trainee under YG Entertainment, and she moved to Seoul as a teenager. After four years of a famously rigorous K-pop training process that includes singing, dancing, and language lessons, ROSÉ debuted with BLACKPINK—alongside JISOO, JENNIE, and LISA—in 2016. The hard work paid off, with BLACKPINK shooting to global stardom. Their debut song “BOOMBAYAH” reached No. 1 on Billboard’s World Digital Song Sales chart, and was followed by other hits like "DDU-DU DDU-DU" and "Kill This Love.” In 2023, they became the first Korean act to headline Coachella. In 2021, ROSÉ released her debut single R, which included the breakup track “Gone” alongside “On the Ground.” The latter became the highest-charting song by a Korean female soloist on the Billboard Hot 100, and became the first song by a Korean soloist to top the Billboard Global 200. The song is a reminder of the importance of staying grounded in reality and being grateful for what you find there, even—and perhaps especially—when you’re one of the biggest K-pop artists in the world. - Apple MusicTop 100 Chart HistoryROSÉ2021 43 On The Ground -1-2024 02 APT. March 21, 20251 yr Author 15 | 13 | 23rd weekSabrina CarpenterBed Chem4th single from Short n' SweetReleased: 23rd August 2024Label: Island RecordsChart StatisticsNE (05/09/2024) | 9-11-9-7-6-7-15-31-32-38-66-11-12-10-15-19-22-25-18-21-19-13-15Sales: 500,000+Certification: GoldStatus: Standard Chart Ratio06 Sales14 Audio Streaming11 Video StreamingVideoBiographySabrina Carpenter has made the transition from teen-TV star to pop-dominating force look remarkably easy. It helps that the actor and singer-songwriter—born in 1999 in Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania—pursued both sides of her career in tandem, releasing music while establishing a regular presence on the Disney Channel and through other acting gigs, including on Broadway. And on her first two albums—2015’s Eyes Wide Open and 2016’s EVOLution—Carpenter set herself apart from her teenage peers with her deft delivery and her eagerness to embrace plenty of dance music sounds. Singular Act I and Singular Act II—a two-part album that dropped in 2018 and 2019—provided yet more proof of her fast-developing abilities as a singer and songwriter who had moved past teen-star stereotypes to become a full-fledged club powerhouse. Later, Carpenter stepped back sonically to express herself more personally, as on the intimately acoustic “skinny dipping,” from her fifth album, emails i can’t send. Still, the sheer fun of it all has never waned. Just listen to one of the many ad-libbed outros in her live performances of the album’s pop hit “Nonsense,” or indeed the lyrical playfulness of “Espresso,” the flirty funk banger that became summer 2024’s defining hit—and which provided Carpenter’s official breakout moment. Next came the Jack Antonoff-produced “Please Please Please” (which became the summer’s second-biggest hit) and her sixth record Short n’ Sweet, a showcase of the most winking, witty music of Carpenter’s career so far. But if it saw the newly crowned pop princess take aim at past relationships, it also saw her take aim at herself. “A lot of what I really love about this album is the accountability,” she told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe. “I will call myself out just as much as I will call out someone else.” - Apple MusicTop 100 Chart History2021 28 Skin -NAS-2023 32 Nonsense -1-2023 19 Feather -2-2023 16 A Nonsense Christmas -1-2023 83 buy me presents -AT-2024 01 Espresso -1- MILLIONAIRE2024 01 Please Please Please -2- MILLIONAIRE2024 01 Taste -3- MILLIONAIRE2024 06 Bed Chem -4-2024 24 Juno -AT-2025 08 Busy Woman -5-3 x #1 | 3 x Top 5 | 5 x Top 10 | 7 x Top 20 | 10 x Top 40 | 11 x Top 100Social Media Sabrina Carpenter

Although the South East London native's 2019 debut, the Intro EP, made a significant impression, she experienced her true breakout in 2021. Her atmospheric cover of "Together in Electric Dreams" soundtracked John Lewis & Partners' annual Christmas advertising campaign that year, and she was also shortlisted for the 2022 BRITs Rising Star category, a distinction that affirmed her individuality. Following a handful of singles, including "So Sorry" and "Stream of Consciousness," Young issued her debut album, 2023's My Mind Wanders and Sometimes Leaves Completely.
