Posted March 23Mar 23 hello BuzzJack! We have upgraded the search infrastructure earlier today. This should make the results much quicker to return. Nothing else changed in terms of results returned.Any issues let us know!
March 23Mar 23 I'm sure it's well documented and something to look into, but it should be possible to "sort" your search results without being given a timeout every time causing you to do the search again.Just attempted a search with the word "Scavenger" to follow @PeteFromLeeds previous reported issue. The results come up fast and provide every post from a thread with that word in the title, but the results are not sorted from most recent results which is generally what you would expect to see. So then when you go to try and sort the results by date (which should be the default anyway), this is what happens; This is just so problematic and it renders the search facility rather pointless if you can't narrow down the results you are trying to find.
March 23Mar 23 Author thanks! What are you using the search for? Results should mostly be in updated order because of how they are weighted however there is a slight boost for the keywords being in the title and if you posted the content. This way it works similar to a search engine. Rather than just showing the most recent, the perceived most relevant are included. Hope this makes sense

I wasn't searching for anything in particular on that occasion, but testing capabilities and the ordering of the search results has me baffled and the inability to filter without getting a timeout error every time. I won't add more to the issue but if others are experiencing the same frustrations then they can voice them here. I'll add that I don't search all the time, but if I was looking for a specific thread or post then I would do and this outcome would not help me find what I was looking for sadly.
March 23Mar 23 Author yeah the flood control might be an issue.. im going to see if we can reduce this drastically. On searching by date, ive raised a feature request to have the option in the search box. Not even the main search page has the option which means it will always lead to two clicks
March 23Mar 23 Oh I noticed it wasn't ordering search results by date any more and didn't realise there was an option to change it back to that. In any case I just went to test it and I'm not getting a timeout?(I would also greatly prefer if sort by date was the default if possible, I'm not sure I see what benefit is gained from sorting by some nebulously defined 'relevance' instead, we're not Google)
March 24Mar 24 I've had the timeout error before, so I tried it again and I'm still getting the error too.
March 24Mar 24 Author I’ve changed search flood control. Removed completely for moderators+ and set to 3 seconds for members. With the search upgrade we can now handle the additional requests. This should help here 😁

However when I do this now (even if I select 'content titles only') it lists every reply from said topic making it pretty much impossible to do this without manually going back through the forum. Does anyone know a way round this, or am I being dense? On 23/03/2025 at 22:36, Brer said:I would also greatly prefer if sort by date was the default if possible, I'm not sure I see what benefit is gained from sorting by some nebulously defined 'relevance' instead, we're not Google

It wouldn’t be so bad if on the search form there was an option to sort but I don’t see any
