Felix Manuel (aka Djrum) is due to release a new album later this month titled Under Tangled Silence (25 April), the first for almost 7 years.

Really loving the first single & opener to the album “A Tune For Us” which is just gorgeous, but there have been two further singles released so far: the restless “Three Foxes Chasing Each Other” and the latest single “Waxcap”, which started out as a solo piano improvisation in lockdown.

“We go through life. We shed our skins. We become ourselves.”

This line from Patti Smith was going round and round Felix Manuel’s head as he gradually constructed Under Tangled Silence, his first album in six years and a record of a literal creative rebirth. Felix originally began it in earnest in 2020 Covid lockdown, but a catastrophic hard-drive meltdown destroyed almost all his work and sent him close to psychic collapse himself. However, ultimately this pushed him to rebuild from scratch and in so doing to confront and reassess every part of his musical and psychological processes.

Great to see a thread on this! I love pretty much everything I've heard by them, I was very late to the party with Portrait With Firewood but it was recommended to me a couple of years ago and I loved the sheer variety and scale of what they're aiming for in the compositions. The new ones for 2025 all feel equally successful to me and I'm majorly looking forward to the album

Just taken a first listenthrough - absolutely gorgeous stuff.

I think “Let Me” is gonna be one of my faves to come back to, it's very Aphex Twin. I still love the singles “A Tune For Us” and “Waxcap” though, particularly the former for the journey that you are taken on throughout its runtime.

This entire project is absolutely incredible. Currently melting to 'Let Me'

'L'Ancienne' slapped me across the face as it turned into some kind of ominous dancehall track?!

I've listened to this a few times now and it is definitely a contender for the best album this year. It's just stunning, I love the way he fully embraces some of his classical influences. The way it takes you on a journey, beginning with the beautiful and more classical, before gradually dissolving layers by adding more and more electronic elements until we reach the fast paced conclusion. It's such a coherent journey that it must have taken a lot of planning and work to make it what it is, definitely one of the best electronic musicians out there right now <3

This album cheeseblock

I had it on when friends were over and they were like "what is this? The jungle book?" when 'Three Foxes' started playing cheeseblock
