Posted April 29Apr 29 Season 2 continues on Saturday with... Lucky Day. We have our first episode of the series written solely by a guest writer, with Pete McTighe returning for his third outing in the main show following series 11's Kerblam! and series 12's Praxeus. Ruby also returns alongside UNIT and new character Conrad Clark.Ruby Sunday faces life back on earth without the Doctor. But when a dangerous new threat emerges, can Ruby and UNIT save her new boyfriend, Conrad, from the terrifying Shreek?8am on iPlayer, and 7:10pm on BBC One.Discuss the episode here ~
May 3May 3 Well this went in a direction I wasn't expecting it to. Based on the trailer, I was expecting a light-weight Doctor-lite episode with Ruby trying to navigate life away from the Doctor.Definitely McTighe's best script and a story which is very now... especially given what happened yesterday with the rising of the right, dis-information and how things can be ramped up on social media... I imagine there is going to be a section of fandom who will dislike this intently - bandying the 'w' word around and carry on the cries on cancellation, despite apparently being fans.Need to give it a re-watch, but continuing the strong run this Series. The End scene between the Doctor and Conrad was really well done. I've tried to make that as less spoilery as I can and haven't really mentioned any of the stuff that happens in the middle.
May 3May 3 Agreed another strong episode after such a strong streak of episodes hoping the second half doesn't let us down 🙏🏻
May 3May 3 Loved the direction of this episode. Did not expect it to go anywhere in the direction it did but it's good that they've addressed the general public not being so blind to the happenings in the Whoniverse and it is exactly something that would happen now with the protests and unrest.Lovely to see UNIT again and all of Ruby"s family. A great Doctor-lite episode without it feeling like he wasn't there much at all. Also, Trinity Wells back *.*
May 3May 3 Author Trinity Wells seemingly turning into some kind of GB News type presenter 💀Honestly though, wow! That episode was incredible. What a run we've had so far. I was skeptical going into this episode because of all the episodes - going by what little we knew of the premise going into the series - the fact Ruby was back, episode 4 of season 1 being a disappointment for me (), another Doctor-lite episode, etc I was fully prepared for this to be a weak link of the series for me. But I absolutely loved that.Pete McTighe's probably done the best job so far in the show commenting on people like Conrad, conspiracies, the rise of the right, fake news, etc than anybody else has. And that's an achievement given he wrote Praxeus but it was all subtle enough that it didn't feel like a punch in the face but still absolutely knowing what they were getting at. And Jonah played the role of Conrad excellently. The moment the twist happened in the village I was gobsmacked. I accidentally clicked onto the thread this morning before watching the episode and saw the start of ElectroBoy's post but even then I wasn't expecting that to happen!Kate was brilliant, was great to see UNIT back, the callback to the Autons in the same department store from Rose was class, and Ruby was actually really good this time. It was so refreshing to see in-depth some post-Doctor trauma besides just a quick glimpse at it in the companion support group or a throwaway moment in an episode before they jump right back into the action.

May 3May 3 Another solid episode this is on track to be my favourite season since series 7.Ruby was tolerable the story was well written and directed. The acting production and script have improved ten fold. Wasn't this filmed with season 1, if so baffling?Absolutely impressed and the most excited I've been for years.
May 3May 3 It's actually infuriating as a fan it's taken this long to get doctor who right again? And it feels like it's all a bit to late now as most people have clocked off or given up. If this was any other show it would have been cancelled in the peter era. 10/10 story arc is intriguing, well done Russel, wish you'd done this last season
May 7May 7 That was another really solid episode, not as good as 73 Yards in terms of Doctor-lite episodes, but it's great to see something that Doctor Who hasn't covered before and a contemporary, real-world issue that it absolutely makes sense to see Doctor Who tackle in this day and age, misinformation can be just as scary as some of the Doctor's foes and while there's only so much the BBC can say given we all know certain politicians are the main flag-flyers of this, I think they handled it pretty well, (and I love how this season is just pissing off the manosphere crowd as they're exactly the anti-woke idiots that will consistently criticise the show, yet clearly obsessing over it).Conrad was played really well, but I'm not sure how I feel about the 'reveal', it surely would've been better to show us how he got to this path rather than a skeleton story and a few sentences explanation. Also, didn't really like the ending monologue, felt a little bit preachy and out of character for the Doctor. Kate from UNIT was great though with the dubious morality. The season finale really did kill off Ruby's character to the point I just find her quite uninteresting to watch now, her PTSD wasn't explored enough.Unrelated but I'm on a bit of a DW high right now - I went to a 20th anniversary show at the BFI at the weekend where they screened two past episodes from the original revival (Dalek and Fathers Day, both still stunning) and Murray Gold and Camille Coduri (Jackie) were there! *.

I went to a Dr Who weekend at the NFT (as it was called then) many years ago. Jon Pertwee was at one of the screenings! I have this really clear memory of him saying "Good, isn't it?" from his seat in the front row after the first episode. Before that, I hadn't realised he was there.

I was at that screening too :D Have been a fair few of the Classic screenings for when they release the Blu-Ray sets. So it was good to have some New Who finally being screened. Was a good event.
