This is interesting actually and I can't imagine it's just down to TikTok, which has been a factor driving new hits for years now. I wonder if it's just being advertised less prominently?

Funny, Hot Hits always felt like it had a little too much control on the chart, but new releases seem to be struggling more now that it's less of a factor...!

I'm personally glad about this, the monopoly it had over the charts in 2016/2017 is what made them utter hell!

I'd argue the lack of ACR is what really ruined the 2016 charts! It'd be just the same now if not worse without ACR (not that we need another debate about ACR)

At least Hot Hits UK did springboard new hits, I've not always been huge on how it could make or break a hit but it really does feel like so little is breaking through this year.

HH ruined the chances of many songs back in the day especiallyby female singers no longer in their prime, a bit Radio 1-esque

But agree theres no alternative to tiktok to introduce new songs

No idea how its streams have developed in the UK but globally it has almost doubled in 10 days (from 1.2M to 2.2M).
