Excellent news. This is my favourite decade for top 40 singles. I'll be there on Sunday.

  • Looking forward to this as a major 80s synth-pop / new wave / post-punk nerd I have a driving lesson on Sunday evening but should be able to make the first couple of hours at least!

Lipps Inc - Funky Town

Sky - Toccata

The Cure - A Forest

Blondie - Call Me

The Mash - Theme From 'M*A*S*H' (Suicide Is Painless)

Top 5 favourites this week:

Blondie - Call Me

The Cure - A Forest

Jona Lewie - You'll Always Find Me In The Kitchen At Parties

Lipps Inc. - Funky Town

The Mash - Theme From 'M*A*S*H' (Suicide Is Painless)

a couple of difficult cuts, apologies to the likes of Gary Numan and Kate Bush

Blondie are on fire at the moment 🤩

Blondie - Call Me

Sky - Toccata

Kate Bush - Breathing

The Cure - A Forest

Lipps Inc - Funky Town

Kate Bush and The Cure's songs were unfamiliar to me prior to this so great to hear those (does mean I have no room for Jona Lewie and Gary Numan though </3)

Kate Bush - Breathing

New Musik - This World Of Water

Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark - Messages

Jona Lewie - You'll Always Find Me In The Kitchen At Parties

Gary Numan - We Are Glass

Blondie - Call Me

The Cure - A Forest

Gary Numan - We Are Glass

Lipps Inc. - Funkytown

Sky - Toccata

All songs I knew already this week (although 'We Are Glass' and 'Toccata' I only knew due to discovering them from previous SyncTube sessions). 'A Forest' will be up there with my absolute faves of the entire decade.

Jona Lewie just missing out, and my top discoveries of the week are Madness, New Musik and Elvis Costello & The Attractions.

My 5 picks:

The Undertones - My Perfect Cousin

New Musik - This World Of Water

Roxy Music - Over You

The Specials - Rat Race

Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark - Messages

Looks like I'm going to be in the minority here but worst for me is "Funkytown" by Lipps Inc. I find that song so irritating, especially the singing.

Top 5 favourites this week:

Pretenders - Talk of the town

The Cure - A Forest

Jona Lewie - You'll Always Find Me In The Kitchen At Parties

Blondie - Call Me

Theme From 'M*A*S*H' (Suicide Is Painless)

sadly I had to cut:

Don McLean - Crying

The Beat - Mirror in the bathroom

least fav, the Paul McCartney one

Best

Blondie - Call Me

Sky - Toccata

Kate Bush - Breathing

Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark - Messages

The Cure - A Forest

Lots of great songs missed the cut

Worst

The Four Bucketeers - The Bucket Of Water Song

Lipps Inc - Funky Town

The Nolans - Don't Make Waves

I gave 4 9s this week so also voting for my favourite of the 8s.

1 The Cure - A Forest

2 Blondie - Call Me

3 Lipps Inc - Funky Town

4 Kate Bush - Breathing

5 Jona Lewie - You’ll Always Find Me In The Kitchen At Parties

Missing out also with 8:

My votes:

The Korgis - Everybody's Got To Learn Sometime

Siouxsie And The Banshees - Christine

Stacy Lattisaw - Jump To The Beat

Bob Marley And The Wailers - Could You Be Loved

Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart

Tiebreak:

Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart

Kate Bush - Babooshka

The Korgis - Everybody's Got To Learn Sometime

Olivia Newton-John And Electric Light Orchestra - Xanadu

Yellow Magic Orchestra - Computer Game ('Theme From The Invaders')/Firecracker

The Korgis - Everybody's Got To Learn Sometime

Bob Marley And The Wailers - Could You Be Loved

Yellow Magic Orchestra - Computer Game ('Theme From The Invaders')/Firecracker

Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart

Kate Bush - Babooshka

Those classics really came through at the end of the session x (and YMO a great discovery as they always are)

Week 3 Tiebreak

Blondie - Call Me

Elvis Costello & The Attractions - New Amsterdam

Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart

Peter Gabriel - No Self Control

Siouxsie And The Banshees - Christine

Splodgenessabounds - Two Pints Of Lager And A Packet Of Crisps Please

2 discoveries (Peter and Siouxsie) and 3 I already knew this week (although I don't think I've heard 'New Amsterdam' for many years so that's also basically a re-discovery). Just missing out from the others I already knew are Kate Bush, Bob Marley & The Wailers and The Korgis (another one I don't know that well though) and my next favourite discovery was Yellow Magic Orchestra. The first side of the Splodgenessabounds single was a good discovery too, not really sure how we're meant to be dealing with voting for double A-Sides but I did already previously submit a vote for only 'Going Underground' so continuing that precedent I guess x

'A Forest' for the tiebreaker obvz

It was a very good start today and I'm picking three of the first five songs that were played.

Electric Light Orchestra - I'm Alive

The Korgis - Everybody's Got To Learn Sometime

Peter Gabriel - No Self Control

Queen - Play The Game

Olivia Newton-John And Electric Light Orchestra - Xanadu

No room for Joy Division.

Tiebreak - A Forest

Had the session in the background while watching tennis but found most of the songs rather pedestrian, too many bad rock songs

best:

Siouxsie

Joy Division

Peter Gabriel

tiebreak:

The Cure of course <3

Best:

Electric Light Orchestra - I'm Alive

The Korgis - Everybody's Got To Learn Sometime

Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart

Change - A Lover's Holiday

Surface Noise - The Scratch

Tiebreak:

The Cure - A Forest

Worst:

Rod Stewart - If Loving You Is Wrong (I Don't Want To Be Right)
