Thanks to the 29 contributors. Results will start tomorrow (and don't worry, they won't be nearly as quick as round 1's 😁)

52. Sub Focus and Dimension- Desire (65 points)

Writers: Nicolaas Douwma, Robert Etheridge, Rachel Keen

Producers: Sub Focus, Dimension

UK chart peak: 51 (9 weeks in the top 100)

Achieved platinum status on 27/10/2023

Top voters: danG 24, ElectroBoy 23, Mangø 6

Despite having 7 top 40 hits, "Desire" is the first of Sub Focus' two platinum singles, the other is number 12 single "Tidal Waves" which achieved platinum status 2 months after "Desire". In 2019 it broke a 5.5 year absence from the charts for Sub Focus. He and Dimension would collaborate again multiple times, eventually bagging a top 40 together with "Ready To Fly" in 2023. The producers co-wrote the track with Raye but the vocals are performed by the now in-demand dance vocalist Clementine Douglas.

Track 4 on Reputation was never released as a single but charted for the first time in May 2022 after some TikTok virality. Too bad the "Kate Bush effect" didn't happen a little sooner as it very likely would've been reset and in the top 40. "Don't Blame Me" would go on to be a staple of her Eras Tour in 2023-24. It's fairly unlikely we'll get a Taylor's Version of this now that she owns her masters.

First released on his EP of the same name in 2017, "Found What I've Been Looking For" would later be featured on Tom's 2018 debut album Lighting Matches. It charted for the first time in October 2018 and peaked in January 2019. It featured on the FIFA 18 soundtrack and it was used as the theme of Super Sunday on Sky Sports from the 2017 season to the 2019 season, replaced by the current theme "Stop This Flame" by Celeste starting in the 2020 season.

"Ribs" was released as a promotional single from Lorde's 2013 debut album Pure Heroine but did not chart. It had TikTok revivals in 2020 and 2025, the latter coinciding with Lorde's return with her current (potentially first number one) album. It charted for the first time in Australia, the US and Ireland (where it reached number 16) this year but just missed out on a UK reset meaning it remains uncharted.

'Ribs' has always been one of my favourites from Pure Heroine. Loved the atmosphere of it live too. Glad it's been a chosen one on TikTok!

It never charted in the UK but in the US it was Tinashe's only hit as lead artist until "Nasty" charted in 2024.

"Confident" was the second single from Demi's 5th album of the same name, following number 7 hit "Cool For The Summer". Demi said at the time that this song was the "best way to represent her". She recorded a rock version of the track for her 2023 remix album Revamped.

45. Fisher- Losing It (93 points)

Writers: Brett Alan Fischer, Gita Lake, Paul Fisher, Thomas Earnshaw

Producers: Fisher, Thomas Earnshaw, Brett Alan Fischer

UK chart peak: 60 (9 weeks in the top 100)

Achieved platinum status on 26/05/2023

The Grammy-nominated "Losing It" was first played at Coachella in 2017 but after multiple bootleg releases Fisher officially released the track the following year. It has spent more time at number one than any other song on Beatport's top 100 chart (62 days). Ren used the beat on his song of the same name in 2022. "Losing It" had the same score and number of voters as "Confident" but received two scores of 23 compared to the one 23 vote "Confident" received, meaning Fisher only just finishes ahead of Demi.

44. Petit Biscuit- Sunset Lover (93 points)

Writer: Mehdi Benjelloun

Producer: Petit Biscuit

UK chart peak: did not chart

Achieved platinum status on 24/02/2023

This tropical house anthem was uploaded to SoundCloud in February 2015 when Petit Biscuit was 15 years old. It was officially released later that year in June. Despite not making the main chart it spent some time in the indie chart in late 2016/early 2017, re-entering and reaching a new peak there in Summer 2019. It achieved the same number of points and votes as "Losing It" and "Confident" but the 25 points awarded by Dan were enough to push it ahead of the other two tracks.

A number 3 hit in the States and a number 8 in Australia, "Kryptonite" and the band's other work didn't really catch on in the UK during their heyday but they have enjoyed popularity here in the streaming era. It was first performed by the band in 1997 but had its official release at the turn of the millennium.

Released for the soundtrack to season 2 of 13 Reasons Why, "Lovely" was Billie's first single to reach the UK charts and is her second most successful single in terms of sales, though it will be overtaken by "Birds Of A Feather" very soon. It is also the second most successful for Khalid.

Side note: for the 2nd semi-final there has been some demand to include songs that were certified platinum after round 1 closed and semi final 1 started. There are two songs that have done this: to make things fair, I would like you to vote on which track you want to include as a wildcard in the 2nd semi-final.

If you want Alphaville's "Forever Young" as a wildcard, react to this post with a like/👍

If you want Bob Marley & The Wailers' "Redemption Song" as a wildcard, react to this post with a heart/❤️

The song with more reactions by 11:30 BST on 7th July gets added into the 2nd semi-final's pool of songs!

41. The Cinematic Orchestra ft. Patrick Watson- To Build A Home (102 points)

Writers: Phil France, Jason Swincoe, Patrick Watson

Producer: Jason Swincoe

UK chart peak: did not chart

Achieved platinum status 27/08/2021

Top voters: Herbs 25, King Rollo 17, dandy* 16

The first of two wildcards in this round drops out. Depending on which version of the album you own, this haunting song is either the opening or closing track on the Cinematic Orchestra's 2007 album Ma Fleur. It opens the Ninja Tune release and closes the Domino release. The song was accompanied by a 12 minute short film starring Peter Mullan which premiered on Channel 4. The song's vocals and piano are performed by Canadian singer Patrick Watson: his own French-language "Je te laisserai des mots" was also eligible for the rate but got no points in round 1.

The song with more reactions by the time I reach the cutoff point for the 1st semis get added into the 2nd semi-final's pool of songs!

Argh, genuinely can't choose between them - both are classics and would have been high in my original vote!

As for this semi, I think the only song I've lost from my vote here is 'Losing It'

Was doing well in this one but then had some lossses with “Losing It”, “Sunset Lover” and “How To Build A Home”. I’m glad the latter made it through as a wildcard.

Maybe we need both “Forever Young” and “Redemption Song” hehe.
