@JulianNial @-Jay- @Liam.k. 2 weeks after 'Issues' was certified Gold, and 1 week after 'Just Can't Get Enough' was certified gold, 'All Fired Up' is now certified Gold!

The longevity that Ego had in the chart and its overall sales makes up for it not being a Top 5 hit, I think! It's their third best selling single. It's also third on their Spotify popular list, so it continues to be one of their most remembered songs.

The Top 10 in the week that Ego peaked at #9:

01. 106,237 REPLAY IYAZ [2xPlatinum]

02. 97,410 RIVERSIDE (LET'S GO) SIDNEY SAMSON FT WIZARD SLEEVE [Gold]

03. 49,017 STARSTRUKK 3OH3 FT KATY PERRY [Platinum]

04. 43,168 BAD ROMANCE LADY GAGA [3xPlatinum]

05. 40,835 YOU'VE GOT THE LOVE FLORENCE & THE MACHINE [3xPlatinum]

06. 33,505 DON'T STOP BELIEVIN' JOURNEY [4xPlatinum]

07. 30,689 LOOK FOR ME CHIPMUNK FT TALAY RILEY [silver]

08. 30,179 TIK TOK KESHA [2xPlatinum]

09. 26,959 EGO SATURDAYS [Gold]

10. 25,269 MEET ME HALFWAY BLACK EYED PEAS [2xPlatinum]

As can be seen by their certifications, most of the songs ahead of Ego in that chart are much bigger hits than it... apart from Chip - Look for Me!

Chip's Look for Me and The Saturdays' Ego were both post-album singles. Both reached their peaks in the week of the chart I posted above. Although Look for Me got off to a much better start than Ego in the chart, including a better peak (#7), beyond that week Ego held up much better.

Look for Me had a sales total of 259,500 by the end of 2010, while Ego has sold 313,400 by that point. Look for Me is still only Silver certified, which seems to suggest that it's relatively forgotten about... while Ego went Gold in 2018. I wonder how close it is to Platinum?

Chart runs, week by week comparisons:

00-96-52-35-30-20-17-09-14-11-13-19-24-26-34-43-45-49-48-43-36-46-57-61-68-70-95 (12 weeks out) 89 (1 week out) 97-xx [Ego]

44-36-19-10-20-13-10-07-16-22-26-35-41-55-69-84-00-00-00-67-90-xx [Look for Me]

I have a feeling they're going to get masses of new certs this year. If you look at the top selling girl-band songs the Official Chart Company compiled in June 2019, Ego was #62 and all songs above it have now been certified Platinum, so I can see it getting there by the end of the year.

Interestingly, further down at #87 and #88 is 'Issues' and 'Just Can't Get Enough' who always shared weirdly identical sales, every song above their position has been certified Gold now, with #86 ('Round Round' by Sugababes) finally reaching it last year and #85 ('Jump' by Girls Aloud) the year before. I imagine 'All Fired Up' is catching up quite nicely too.

'If This Is Love' or 'Work' must be on the cusp of Silver too.

Thanks for the reply Jay, looks like it was a busy week when it reached its peak.

Great to see it’s one of their most streamed though. :)

Well deserved, it's their best single after Higher (without Flo Rider)

I still regularly play Ego at house parties/pre-drinks and it always goes down so well, whereas I think a lot of other songs by The Saturdays wouldn’t. All Fired Up also seems to be popular with non-fans, that song seems to transcend girl group fans because of its dance influences.

Those two along with Up make their top 3 for me.

I think for most of us, how on earth Up seems to have faded into the background is beyond me. The fact that neither version is within their Spotify top 10 is blasphemous.

Yep definitely, easily their top 3. I have a real soft spot for Missing You and Disco Love too so that's my top 5.

For me Up was the first song from them I heard, so I’ll probably always have a place for it. Really? It’s not within their top 10? Yep that’s blasphemy.

I think my two to round out my top 5 would be Disco Love and either What About Us (solo) or My Heart Takes Over..

Up (single version) was and remains to this day, one of the best girl group songs ever. I said what I said.

It is right up there for me. I loved it from first listen.

I can recall it too. I saw it in the charts and wanted to give it a listen. So I got it and put it on my iPod and forgot about it for a while, then one day on the train it randomly came on. I was hooked and when I checked my iPod I thought, oh I forgot about this. I then went and ordered the album off Amazon.

The fact Ego wasn’t a top 5 hit is sad. One of it hit their best singles.

I agree

Ego is one of the best girlband songs of all time.

I heard it in River Island yesterday and my friends looked at me and knew... I simply said "Yes, I know this still hits." It sounded so effing good as I was browsing through that sales rack.

All Fired Up transcends pop girl group fans, just as W.O.M.A.N would have done for the Spicy Ladies.

For me, their three best in house parties etc are Ego, All Fired Up and Nor Giving Up.

I love Issues too; it wss great for the time, but I admit that it has aged somewhat.

I'm interested to see how 'Ego' would have done as the lead (similar with if 'Higher' was the lead)

I don't think 'Ego' would have managed to beat 'Oopsy Daisy' to #1 since it sold over 82,000 in it's first week, so I'm pretty confident if they stuck to that release week it would have been a #2 hit as 'Forever Is Over' was... however, had it been released the week before, it for sure would have beaten Taio Cruz's 3rd week at #1 with 'Break Your Heart' (wish Cheryl's demo would leak...) which had just under 43,000 sales. Realistically I could have seen Ego go in #1 that week with sales of around 60,000 to 70,000 being knocked to #2 the following week by 'Oopsy' but maintaining a lot more longevity than 'FIO' which garnered just under 39,000 in it's first week then plummeted pretty quickly out of the charts.

'Higher' had already managed sales of over 124,000 by it's release week, as a lead it would have had to have sold exactly half that to take the #1 from 'Club Can't Handle Me' compared to 'Missing You's' 57,000... Completely realistic and doable. However, this would be a world where the 'Flo Rida' collab didn't happen which was a massive factor in it's boost in popularity. So it's an interesting one.

Shame Ego wasn't the lead single then :(

And Cheryl could have released Break Your Heart?! Gah!! Missed opportunity.

And considering The Sats and Cheryl were both under the same label at the same time speaks volume, their A&R wanted a good talking to.
