Congrats blacksquare, a great top 3 actually! I wish Utopia could've snuck top 10 and Herbilore deserved better. Happy to take my 2nd 28th of the year and I'm glad Jae Stephens did better for Aesthetica than she did for me xx Great hosting dandy! ☺️

  • Also THIS was the look I got from Mr D* earlier when I explained we couldn't watch the final of Sewing Bee live because I was going to be presenting the results of a pretend song contest

  • Tis mine thank you! 29 today 🥳

Oh wow. Love that 'storm' resonated so much, their soundscape this era (don't forget to pre-save the new album) is just it to me. Thank you to the 35 voters who got Nelly our second win. Insane 🖤 Rea

Hype!

My electronic entries seem to be difficult to predict, so no idea what to expect, but would love another top 20 scrape if possible

Well I got that wish with a literal 20th place, oh my cheeseblock thanks to everyone who supported S1RENA - 5 top 20s this year so far is great!

A huge congrats to blacksquare 🖤 knew and loved 'storm' pre-contest as you know, so unsurprisingly that is now my new favourite winner of the year! Actually I have to extend that praise to both of the top two, as ARGO received my gold medal on top of Night Tapes getting my silver, so hands down my favourite top 2 of 2025. Delighted with how well FSR Rontvia performed, what an inspired pick with a sound that is catnip to Jadakissnian ears.

Elsewhere in the top 10 I also voted for Joon Gloom and MERCY, so 4/10 feels like less than usual, but quite a few other favourites landed in the 11-20 section at least. Such a shame that my bronze, courtesy of none other than Bronzil, ended up outside of the top 30 - justice for Fazerdaze!

Thank you Dandy for a fabulous hosting job heart

We also demand immediate Green Room!

I've had her on my potentials playlsit for about a year now and I just kept talking myself out of sending her until I heard Afterbody. It's a special track!

I'm glad you did, her singles from the last year-ish have been so good!

I have a few ideas for next month also, leaning towards something typically taahino (00s sounding pop punk, female vocals, high energy) but we'll see 😌 I have another potential that's both Marina and Chappell vibes (think oh no meets naked in Manhattan but a bit more low-key)

Yes, I have a folder saved of just over 20 countries' NMF playlists that I check each week and skim through them (it ends up being about 1,000 tracks weekly so I can't listen to even half of them in full even if I wanted to). Occasionally as I'm skimming through something really catches my ear (like Korku) and I'll save it to another playlist to properly listen, and this particular song ended up staying with me and getting repeat plays.

I don't find all my BJSC entries this way, but since I don't really keep an eye on blogs anymore I would say that maybe 50% come from this method. Other times I have found my entries through YouTube recommendations - I think Voryva was for example. NADA and f*** IT were from Popjustice NMF, Loss Is Not Infinite was on NMF UK, Indian Spirits was from an old 90s German compilation CD, so a bit of a mix.

Jeez, I am envious of both your attention span and time to be able to do this. My New Music Friday playlist still has stuff from January on it because I’ll start listening to new stuff and then after like 5 songs, I’ll get distracted and think “well… I feel like listening to Midnight Sun again” lol

I usually go into rabbit holes of checking similar artist suggestions that lead to more and more obscure artists. It’s actually not that time consuming. As long you follow all of the new artists you discover, Spotify just recommends you stuff based on that so in a few weeks your algorithms gets tailored to your taste entirely.

Fortunately I'm able to listen to music at work which helps (and is where I do 80% of my music listening each week as on my commute I tend to watch the soaps 😂), so really this playlist is just background noise until something stops me in my tracks and I make a mental note to add it to my playlist of songs to check again. Tbf, Midnight Sun was one such song when I first heard it!
