1 Junior Senior - Move Your Feet

I can’t think of a more joyous record released this century, or a greater song and video combination.

Thank you for indulging my side quests - back to the main countdown next!

  • That weird moment where you think that Last Dreamer is a huge Oasis fan. I swear my mind just imploded a bit.

There are a couple of other songs I'd rank lower. By no means do I enjoy Changes but I don't really hate it either, I just find the terrible vocals quite hilarious in that the label and artists saw fi

Can't Stand Junior Senior it's annoying. 50 Cent song is good I like the Arabian sounding production.

Jamelia had one hell of a team behind her choosing that track for her, because they basically changed nothing about the original by Danish singer Christine Milton apart from a couple of lyrics, which cheapens it a little for me, although yes it's a great song and she sings it with charm.

Move Your Feet, In Da Club - both big classics, Fighter is another really strong single from the fantastic Stripped and agreed that the Richard X/Liberty X cover was so strong. Love The Opera Song too, what a great move from Charlotte Church at the time, on her way to a more commercial career. And the Busted single is one of their best, I wish the single mix was on streaming as the album version isn't as tightly produced.

I didn't care for Alex Parks, or the Oasis or Stereophonics songs particularly so would swap them in the top ten with Delta Goodrem (of course, but this is a brilliant ballad and a powerful vocal), Girls Aloud (ditto, this is so underrated in their back catalogue) and Wayne Wonder (which I think is my favourite 2003 use of the Diwali Riddim, what a great summer song).

With Junior Senior I loved it at first, then after a few weeks it got so overplayed that I found it annoying for years afterwards. However, now I love it again! ❤️

Also that's my favourite Busted song. Agreed the album version available on streaming doesn't quite pack the same punch.

Move Your Feet is one of all-time feel-good tracks, love it as much as I did at the time, what a classic. Superstar too, jamelia's finest moment, she's great. The blind spot I have for In Da Club is hard to shift though, as I do for most things Fiddy. Never really got the appeal, though the production is good.

Ooh, I may steal that idea for my year x I think I'm in almost total agreement with your ranks, a pretty poor list of #2s and #3s but some great highlights, Move Your Feet is an all time favourite of mine and one I still think is impossible to not feel some joy when listening to, In Da Club is also a standard setter for 00s hip hop, and the top 5 number 2s are all major deserved classics. I mean we all know Fast Food Rockers are the real best, but it's hard to mere songs to compare to that xx

Oh there are some great songs amongst that list of #2s and #3s... and I don't think I disagree much with your ranking of them either tbh

The trio of Keisha, Heidi and Mutya had reached a whole new level the previous year with the “Angel With Dirty Faces” album, and it wasn’t too surprising that the lead from the next album “Three” gave them another chart topper. The album went on to yield 3 more Top 10 hits.

The track was produced by Xenomania who were involved with most of Girls Aloud’s output. It’s a sassy and vibrant pop song that’s right up with their best material.

Heidi’s great but it was lovely to see the original trio reuniting and getting the name back. The clip above is from the original 3 members performing “Hole In The Head” on “Later With Jools Holland” this year, and it sounded as good as ever.

I missed that Jools show, and the Sugababes albums are still pending in my pile of unplayed CD's, so not heard this one for a while, sounds good. When streaming became a thing charity shops were deluged with 2000's albums getting dumped, so I snapped a few of 'em up. Always contrary me. Hole In the Head went he equivalent of "Silver" in my chart "sales" but it's sounding more "Gold" there, so I may have underestimated it.

Yay, 'Move Your Feet' is joy personified, very much here for its love on the forum recently - both in this thread and RFC's countdown. wub it would easily top that group of #3s for me as well although I do have a major soft spot for 'Being Nobody', as is the case for most things Richard X touches. Glad to see that making your top 5.

'Hole In The Head' is a fabulous start to the top 10 in the main countdown *.* love the bouncy Xenomania production and fiery lyrics inspired by Keisha's real life break up. The song to finally dislodge the Black Eyed Peas!

This was second #1 from the “Stripped” album after “Dirrrty” made it at the end of the previous year. It could hardly be more different from its raunchy predecessor; an introspective ballad about inner beauty.

The song had been intended for Pink, but after the writer, Linda Perry, heard Christina demo-ing it she gave it to her instead. The video represented various minority groups and self image issues.

Christina does ballads like this very well; “Hurt” and “The Voice Within” being other examples. She absolutely sells this for all it’s worth and it’s a lovely track.

My favourite Xtina singles are "Keeps Getting Better" and "Not Myself Tonight".

Beautiful is such a great ballad, one of my favourites. It was enough to convince me to buy Stripped when I first heard it.

Weren’t this and Stole around the top end of the chart around the same few weeks? I remember thinking it was interesting to have two ballad/mid-tempo songs with very thought provoking lyrics and videos doing well at the same time.

That's one of Christina's best ballads, she sells the song well - didnt know Linda Perry wrote it, but that makes sense, 4 Non Blondes and all that. I could see Pink doing it too, though, so pipped at the post!

I knew Linda Perry wrote it and I have vague memories of P!nk wanting to record it, or it being intended for her.

On the song it self though I’ve never been a huge fan sadly. I can appreciate the message and the music video though.

Blu Cantrell featuring Sean Paul - Breathe

Breathe

This samples “What’s The Difference” by Dr Dre, which in turn is based on Charles Aznavour’s 1966 song “Parce Que Tu Crois”. It started off as a Blu Cantrell solo song but was remixed to include Sean Paul.

It was a 4 week #1 which managed 15 weeks in the Top 40, and was Blu’s only huge hit, her biggest solo single being “Hit ‘Em Up Style” which reached #12. It is also Sean Paul’s only #1, though he has peaked at every position from #2 to #7 as lead artist.

I think this is an incredibly clever bit of sampling and a great duet that marries two very different styles. Blu’s vocals are excellent and the pop and reggae elements combine beautifully.

Blu gives boybands of the time a run for their money with the dazzling blue eyes in the video!

Great song of course, I like the blend of R&B flavoured brass with a hip-hop feel from the Dre sample. Her vocals are impressive (much like Xtina at #10 too) and Sean Paul's melodic responses are also fun. Happy with that as my birthday #1 for 2003!

A bit of a lasting meme too due to iTunes once crediting it as '(feat. Sean Paul, Sean Paul & Sean Paul)'. lol
