Take That tease ‘big news on the way’ – Here’s everything we know so far

Gary Barlow, Howard Donald and Mark Owen have fans speculating they're about to announce a Circus 2.0 tour.

Take That have begun to tease that a “big” announcement is on the way.

Over the past few days, the group (which today consists of Gary Barlow, Howard Donald and Mark Owen) have taken to social media to hint at upcoming news.

On Saturday (September 13), the band shared an email with their fanbase which revealed the group were back together working on new music, and “have talked a lot about touring".

“Big decisions” have been made recently, the email continued to share, before signing off with the ultimate teasy message: “See you out there.”

Since then, the group have updated their website with a timer which is counting down the days, hours, minutes and seconds left until 10am on Friday, September 19 – a great time for an announcement if we’ve ever seen one.

On social media, the band has also shared a cryptic video of what appears to be one of the group standing next to some colourful balloons, preparing to blow up another.

“WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?” fans took to the comments to consider, but a few have begun to theorise the video’s theming may link to the group’s popular late-00s album and subsequent tour, The Circus.

“Swear to god if they re-tour The Circus then my life is complete and I can die happy, can you imagine?!” commented one fan amongst the speculation.

Today (September 16), Gary Barlow posted a photo of the group hanging out along with the caption “big news on the way” and a clown emoji, adding to the theory that something circus-related is on the way.

Plus, another recent social media post from the group posed the potentially leading question: "If you could go back in time to any Take That tour, which would you go to?"

But for now, nothing has been confirmed by the group beyond the fact that something will seemingly be revealed on Friday.

As usual, when it comes to Take That tour speculation, fans are also theorising about whether or not any former members will be joining the group again for future projects.

If a Circus 2.0 tour is on the way, it would be nice to see the return of Jason Orange to the band and stage, in a U-turn from his retirement from performing 11 years ago.

And with Robbie Williams coming to the end of his BRITPOP tour next month, it’s not impossible to imagine he could also rejoin the group next year – especially after he recently worked again with Gary for a song on his latest album.

One thing we do know is that Gary, Howard and Mark have been working on new music this year.

“We’re all working on a new Take That record right now,” Gary revealed in April 2025.

News of a new album – the group’s tenth – could be what Friday’s announcement will reveal.

Take That’s ninth album, This Life, was released in November 2023, and was followed by the globe-trotting This Life on Tour concert tour in 2024.

The group last performed together during the 2025 BAFTA film awards, as their song ‘Greatest Day’ received several nods due to its use in the Oscar-winning feature Anora.

They would have no problem filling stadiums so it's possible. Not sure about Robbie though ,

in the UK, Tess. In any other country they hardly filled a much smaller venue. Progress was different with Rob and the effect of rejoining. In the UK though they can do a Manchester residency for a month I guess and something like this is what I guess they will do.

Either they're doing a re-release of The Circus tour on vinyl or whatever, or they're taking that exact show on tour again.

They are indeed doing the tour again.

No complaints from me, I never got to see it the first time round.

The circus tour was amazing, i wasnt sure first when they announced it was it that they were doing the same tour again or touring the circus album doing all the songs from it and as much as i love the album i wanted it to be a repeat of the original tour so im happy it is.

Hopefully they release a vinyl of the album to coincide and possibly an anniversary cd release aswell with bonus material added.

I'd be into this if Jason or Robbie were doing it too but as the three of them it just feels like a bit of a lazy cop out.... especially with a new album coming too.

In announcing the rather unexpected news that they're going to reprise an old tour for the first time in their career, they're aware they're also breaking new ground in a slightly converse way.

Old, yet new, and something not ever done before by a pop band is their belief.

As Gary explains: "One thing for us is we never want to feel like we're going backwards, we always want to feel like we're going forwards. The big attraction for us is that we've never actually repeated a tour before, we actually can't think of anyone who has, so it feels like we're doing something sort of brand new as well.

"Even though most of the show will be exactly the same, we've already reviewed the show, and we think we can get it even better. It feels like a new idea, something that is exciting even though we're doing the same thing."

A show unlike any other

For those who saw The Circus the first time around, in the summer of 2009, it all ENTIRELY makes sense. It was a show quite unlike any other.

One that brought acrobats, fire-eaters, stilt-walkers and a 30ft robotic elephant prancing out in sheer breathtaking fashion half way through the show.

As the M.E.N. review of the Lancashire Cricket Ground Take That takeover in June 2009 put it: "What other British pop band could dream up a spectacle like that?" Gary, Mark and Howard said on Friday that part of the reason for redoing the tour now was to celebrate just how good it made them - and their fans - feel. While also noting just how many fans never got to see it first time around.

Gary said: "Me and Howard were having a cheeky look through all the comments on Twitter (X) and I couldn't believe the number of people who said they never got to see The Circus first time around. I'm actually wondering who did actually get to see it?"

Howard added: "A lot of people back from 2009 they've had children as well so they're very excited to take their kids along to the Circus."

Im definitely going to the Dublin show for this, its such a fantastic concert but i wonder will they tweak the set list from the original as they have released alot of material since this first went on tour.

This is such an unusual thing to do but I'm here for it, I'd love to attend! If it means I can hear The Garden and Hold Up a Light live
