01 59,426 Wham! - Last Christmas [2,067 CDs, 4,397 12" vinyl, 1,860 downloads, 51,101 streaming] [sCR: 110,528] [total: 5,984,618] [post-1994 total: 4,564,703] [1,469 ineligible formats this week]

04 39,049 Tom Grennan - It Can't Be Christmas

This was the gap last year between Wham! at Christmas No.1 and Tom 'Alexa' Grennan. Let's assume Wham! don't have the 6k+ physicals this year (maybe 1/2k from some sort of release or leftovers) and say 54/55k for them.

The Christmas chart is also announced a day further away from Christmas Day compared to last year so Alexa might be feeling fractionally less generous. Let's assume 37k Alexa sales for Kylie, then 18k+ physicals is a tall order but if there's anybody that can do it with a very loyal and devoted fanbase and a cause to get motivated for, then it's Kylie. I think the prices (e.g £4.99 for the CD) are still probably a bit high for people to buy two songs available on an album that comes out the week before. Should have saved a couple of b-sides and kept them physical only!

True I think we'll most likely see a 2019 situation where it's the week after Xmas that'll be the best chance for the Alexa song.

In 2023, the Christmas chart was

01 61,784 Wham! - Last Christmas [2,436 vinyl, 1,963 CDs, 2,346 downloads, 55,039 streaming] [sCR: 116,824]

02 55,858 Sam Ryder - You're Christmas to Me [2,623 CDs, 9,002 downloads]

I’m rooting for any Xmas single.

Especially with Christmas Day being a Thursday (for the first time since tracking weeks were changed in 2015), which could mean Amazon report their data on time and the other streaming services are estimated, and from past experience those estimates will be based on streams earlier in the week so the surge for the usual Christmas classics will appear more muted.

I expect Whammageddon will be upon us yet again and every year henceforth until OCC introduce super duper ACR for Christmas songs

This. They desteoyed Mariah Carey and boosted Last Easter, so let the OCC feast on the mess they made. Bon apetit, OCC! Hope you saved room for some Easter Eggs!!!

Huh?? Why would there be?

Frustrating, I use bet 365 and would definitely have slapped a tenner on her while the odds are good but theirs isn’t up yet

I see Abba are releasing the great Happy New Year as a vinyl single on 6th Dec but only 4,500 so doubt it'll do much. Does it do many streams?

I just heard the Kylie song, it certainly has something. Not sure if it is a contender, but certainly seeing it being top 10 come christmas chart

Got to admit this forum does give me a laugh. I've seen posts like "Terrible start for wham" "This song is doing this or that compared to last year" ignoring the fact that halloween had a direct effect on last weekend and it's the first bloody week of november, so 6 weeks or so away from THAT week

The priority release by Amazon hasn't missed top ten in years. It's more of a discussion whether it makes #1 or not.

I believe the song is top 10 on it's own merit as a xmas xong. Not sure with Amazon "Merit" comes into the equation with you.

Kylie should push the release date of her Christmas single back a week to 12th December

Reverend & the Makers have more of a chance at #01 than Brenda Lee apparently! I do get a good chuckle every year at some of the odds 😆

And the bookies automatically giving ed high odds every year to start with is another baffling one

They just put on all the big current artists on at small odds I would imagine.

Brenda Lee at 66/1 is tempting at this range, she will not be far off even if she’ll likely miss out the way the Xmas chart falls!

Why? The streams it'll get are mostly from Alexa and the physicals are out that week.

Anyway, it's already out. Unless you're suggesting they remove it?
