Poor taylor completely missing the single sales chart 😢

In an ideal world Fred Again.. would've gifted both Overmono and Amyl & The Sniffers a top 40 hit each, but will settle for top 75 again instead.

If Christmas hadn't fallen on a Wednesday last year 'Stick Season' may well have stayed in the Top 100 then and gone on to break the record 105 consecutive weeks of 'Blinding Lights' this week. Instead, 'Lose Control' will take that title in 5 weeks' time.

42 is such an awful result for Dodie after her last album reached the top three ☹️

Lovely album too but not sure why she picked Taylor week for it. I suppose the hype wasn’t there anyway sadly.

This song was the first on Esdeekid's only mixtape, and weirdly enough it doesn't appear to be a single. My guess is that  his success with "Phantom" attracted people to the mixtape's start. And honestly, I have to say it, his accent ruined another rap song. Yes, he can kind of rap, but it just sounds so badly produced, with certain layers covering others too much, and those layers just sounding like he leaned into his style in a half-baked, glitchy way that feels like it disappoints. That's 2 for 2 fails; Esdeekid is really disappointing me.

The One Direction member returns to his solo career with an upbeat song in which he screams the song's title in a way that's supposed to feel like a fresh and natural kick, although I don't think it meets that mark.

Second listen:

I'm sorry, but this reminds me of some of Robbie Williams' viral stage performances, where the hype just really isn't there and false elevation was used on the hook, which had no passion to begin with. Aside from that, it's a fairly basic pop song.

A regularly produced rap song that doesn't fit the UK rap scene as we know it typically, despite this song still sounding typical.

Yeah… it's like if any American artist like Lil Baby or whoever made a rap song, but instead it's British. There is literally nothing worth adding; I can't believe I even liked this at first. In fact, I still think I might be being nice with my score.

47. You're A Star – Fred Again/Amyl & The Sniffers (7.9/10)

Fred Again's mixing has this distorted but interesting sound that makes you want to explore its world; it fits a club vibe where there are lights and darker rooms, but not everybody is dancing; they're just moving how they want too. It makes me capture this moment that songs don't tend to, and I think for Fred Again to define his sound whilst keeping being able to make things like this is great.

Releasing as the lead single for Taylor's new album, we start with a song where I can definitely see radio potential, but it doesn't grip me as much as her other lead singles do. On one hand this feels like a slightly brighter version of some things we got on "TTPD", and it certainly has the substance to carry the songs' notes & direction; it's just not her finest lead single. Now that's said, this song is rumoured to be about her husband, Travis Kelce; I don't know if that's true.
