Starting a thread as the hype builds up to the next Sound Of event. A live show at Maida Vale will be happening on 2nd December meaning we should get the longlist announcement just before then.

And of course, the criteria for qualification has changed, as mentioned previously: https://www.nme.com/news/music/bbc-sound-of-2026-criteria-tweaked-to-omit-acts-with-significant-public-profile-after-chappell-roan-backlash-3898502. Acts with a "significant public profile" in the past 2 years will not be eligible.

  • HAVEN. to win

  • I’m rooting for Rose Gray. She has been consistently releasing fantastic music this year, and quite frankly she deserves to get that big mainstream break.

  • Look forward to seeing which of Chari XCX, Dua Lipa or Lewis Capaldi gets chosen as their unknown hot tip for 2026. I miss when this used to be actually interesting.

Really expecting to be underwhelmed by the winner again but the long list is usually decent.

Have Turnstile already been on it? I feel like they’ll be favourites if not?

They haven't yet, good shout though - although they haven't had many American rock bands nominated before. I think the last was HAIM in 2013! And they’re more on the indie pop side.

Some new(ish)/ breakthrough artists I’d like to see included, but almost certainly won’t be (all definitely worth a listen if you haven’t already heard them):-

Dove Ellis

Westside Cowboy

Smerz

Saya Gray

Divorce

Dijon

Hatchie

Nourished By Time

Heartworms

Georgie & Joe

2BYG

Nation Of Language

Truthpaste

Great Grandpa

Jim Legxacy

Oklou

Maruja

Grace Ives

Witch Post

I also would definitely second those who have suggested Geese, Turnstile and Rose Gray. And if Chappell could be nominated last year, why not Magdalena Bay this year.

I did a playlist, if anyone is interested.

I think Jim Legxacy probably has a good chance of being on there!

(Would love to see Maruja x)

Turnstile are great but I feel like their breakthrough was a while ago so would feel weird for them to be on there this year (not that that's stopped some past nominees).
