  • Absolute anthem. The rave orchestra hits are euphoric. 10/10 classic for me

    Rozalla's is a classic, and a must-have for any top 100 of 1991!

  • Very Mariah-esque vocal. Nice upbeat song. And yeah its synthpop so if you didnt know the year could think it was late 80s. Somebody on this forum I remember said the chorus of Ariana Grande's song S

93 Right Said Fred - I'm Too Sexy

grafik.png

Right Said Fred named after a song of the same name which was a hit for Bernard Cribbins in 1962 and consisted of the two brothers Richard Fairbrass and Fred Fairbrass. "I'm Too Sexy" was their debut single, which became one of the biggest songs in summer 1991. It peaked at #2 in the UK charts. “I’m Too Sexy” was written as a tongue-in-cheek parody of fashion-industry vanity and self-obsession. This will always be my favourite song by them - catchy dance-pop at its best!!!

92 Oceanic - Insanity

grafik.png

One of the biggest selling rave tunes of all time. This was there right time, right place. This song really overperformed. It is catchy and the vocals are good, but it came with big surprise that it was that succesful: 9 weeks in the top 10 peaking @ #3. Oceanic had two further top 40 hits with "Wicked Love" and "Controlling Me", before they disappeared.

I don't think Insanity is the best rave song ever but its good and euphoric even if it is a bit cheesy with the key changes!

91 Lenny Kravitz – It Ain't Over 'Til It's Over

grafik.png

Lenny Kravitz' firat bigger hit peaking at #11 in June 1991. This is a nice blend of funk with rock. Absolutely beauty of a song.

I thought until recently that when I heard this one on the radio that it was by The Style Council, legitimately! Really nice track anyway!

Love that Lenny track, and I can see a vibe similar to Long, Hot Summer about it - Style Council. 🙂

"Rhythm Of Love" was the third out of four SAW-produced Kylie-albums. "What Do I Have Have To Do" was the third single from the album released in January 1991. Another catchy Kylie song following the SAW formula.

87 Crystal Waters - Gypsy Woman

81jSEEmlYIL._SL1024_.jpg

One of the biggest garage house anthems of all time. Produced by Basement Boys this was the first solo single of Crystal Waters, which initially became a big hit peaking at #2 in June 1991. She had three further top 20 hits with "Makin' Happy" (1991), "100% Pure Love" (1994) and "Destination Calabria" (with Alex Gaudino in 2007).

One of the most influential dance songs of the 90s! Kinda wish it wasn't, as too many producers try to copy its minimalist house vibes!

86 Control - Dance with Me (I'm Your Ecstasy)

grafik.png

Beautiful piano house anthem. This was somewhat a one-hit wonder peaking at #17 during the end of 1991.

Oh yes the first hit on the AATW dance label, I do prefer labelmates Love Decade though! 'So Real' might be appearing here?!

Definately, but this will take some time 🙃

85 Living Colour - Love Rears It's Ugly Hat

grafik.png

Living Colour is an American Fusion Rock band formed in 1984. After some minor hits, this was their first big hit peaking @ #12 in March 1991. It was the first of three Top 40 hits in the UK. While the video version is a nice pop rock song, I believe the most played version is the Soulpower Remix by Danish duo Soulshock & Cutfather. Cutfather Mich Hansen later produced later in the 90's loads of readio versions for many Top 10 hits under the alias "Cutfather & Joe" together with Joe Belmaati. The Soulpower Mix of "Love Rears It's Ugly Hat" is a brilliant chilled downtempo version of the song.

84 EMF - Children

EMF (Epton Mad Funkers) are an English alternative dance-rock band from Cinderford in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire, formed in 1989 and best known for their global hit single Unbelievable. The group blended dance, rock, and pop with heavy use of samples, quickly breaking through in 1990–1991 with Unbelievable and their debut album Schubert Dip.

"Schubert Dip" is a really strong album featuring not only their Uberhit "Unbelievable" but also further great songs such as "I Believe", "Lies" and "Children". "Children" peaked at #19 in April 1991 and is another excellent guitar rave tune.

83 Kym Sims - Too Blind To See It

grafik.png

Produced by Steve "Silk" Hurley, who brought us the iconic "Jack Your Body" in 1986, this was a big hit on the dancefloors around the UK in 1991. "Too Blind To See It" stayed in th UK Top 10 for 7 consecutive weeks in Late 91/Early 92. Kym Sims was no one hit wonder, because she had two further hits in the UK Top 40 ("Take My Advice" and "A Little Bit More"). Both sounded quite similar to the initial hit, so that her success faded after these two singles. She had two minor hits later on with "I Must Be Free" (#76 in 1994) and "We Gotta Love" (#52 in 1996).
