December 15Dec 15 Well done Dan on a fourth victory, yours was the only entry in the top 5 I liked. Bottom half of the top 10 is where it's at, so happy Skall finished as high as 6th and WON the semi Aelandor top 10 as well, those 2 were head and shoulders above everything in terms of quality imo.And massive props to gooddelta, that results reveal looked insane with all the intricate details and statistics in each and every post. Raising the bar even further for hosting excellence!
December 15Dec 15 Lentyll’s near recreation of the Sakhir 2020 Russell "ah moment" made my heart stop for a while. At least they're still on the podium!Still getting shock therapy from the results last night. I've never considered myself an easy qualifier here, especially since my previous three related entries (Bandoh x Guiliana; YB x Xdinary; Linda Lindas x Weird Al) didn't meet up my expectations. So, I'm really glad this one resonated with you. Thank you again to everyone who voted for Sukatani, especially @Jade @jimwatts @Iz 🌟 @FrankLuck @seven. @uhsting @Michael Bubré @Miri for the medals! Happy for this unique final position. Looking back at my catalogue, I realize I haven't sent as many alt/indie/rock songs as much as I thought, so maybe it's about time to kick off with more next year? Congratulations to @dancember for the win and @AllStarBySmashMouth for the 2nd place. Surely this is the first time my Top 2 also finished as the Top 2 xFinally, thanls @gooddelta for the hosting and for inspiring so many countries to go wild with foreign languages!

There might've been others with the same top 2 but I just noticed that ❤️(It would be funny if there was ever two identical sets of votes in a song contest - I wonder if it has ever happened before 🤔)
December 15Dec 15 I still have to get around to listening to my opposite semi's DNQs btw (semi 2), hopefully I don't forget. I think I missed a lot of songs on SyncTube in that listenthrough and I decided I'll always listen to the opposite semi's DNQs now too. I used to do that early on, but then started mostly listening only to my own semi and the final. Maybe my best discovery is actually a DNQ from the opposite semi 😉Sabrewulf mentioned to me that Dobago sounded interesting from our opposite semi's DNQs. 😃 And it has the same title as a spin-off entry of mine (Vessels - 4AM).
December 15Dec 15 Congrats Dan, what a great entry to finish the year!Apparently, 'Amsterdam...' WAS in the more favourable semi, I thought that most of its fans are in semi 2, but clearly I was wrong (or the song had more time to warm the hearts of the semi 1 crowd).tbf I didn't expect a lot better, I'm definitely happier with this result than I would be with the 25th place of 'No Audience' - I really thought that it's a 100% top 10 when I confirmed it. Crazy. (Still not as crazy as Kathaldazia going from 6th in the semi to 32nd in the final or East Ruk going from 8th in the semi to 42nd... tf happened there).A great contest to end the year, thanks tons for the seamless hosting Rich, the drama and the bonus stats are always appreciated!
December 15Dec 15 Author With a triple confirmation I thought Ojnoj must have been hot property indeed like Fleeting last time. And as I really enjoyed it when I heard it, I just massively overestimated it unfortunately but it looks like everyone did looking at all the odds posted. Sad for Jonjo as it was the most festive sounding song in the lineup and perfect for a December contest. Grateful for the discovery anyway.Still, I did have Danæviia, Cor Lupus, Lentyll and FARC among my list of contenders that was based on nothing much apart from instinct, so glad I did ok with some calls there. But dreadfully with others which is to be expected before anybody has made any comments at all about what they like. I think Aelandor and Skall were the big surprises for me as the semi results came in (plus Cor Lupus not making the top ten in its semi but challenging for the win but that semi was brutal anyway). Also thought Alessi Rose would do better than just scraping in.
December 15Dec 15 Kept tabs on this while I was working last night and results were all OVER the place. Loved the presentation and was exciting knowing my votes had influence coming right at the end. Big congrats to Dan, had heard it once in advance of the contest and am not surprised at all that it got the win (as predicted on Page 1 xx) - probably quite rare for a Danaeviia/Hendinia vote swap too, so thank you for that, was very surprised!WHAT a comeback from Lentyll aswell - wasn't expecting to like that song as much as I did aswell. Thrilled Taahino managed to grab a top 10 with 3Quency - a continued 100% hit rate for my back-up entries coming top 10 in the last 4 contests (aka since I started having a shortlist and spending more time on new music/BJSC), a funny stat to keep up. And also very very glad XG picked up after a ridiculously slow start.16th feels strangely low for my entry given how well it did with 3 18s etc, but for that reason, I'm not disappointed. I feel like I often wind up finishing top 15 because plenty of people like my entries but not emphatically enough so they trickle their way to top 20 but this feels very different and I'm glad Alchemy resonated so strongly with 6 people that it reached their medal positions. Thanks to Bronzil, Spodic Empire and Baleghde for that!Excited for a Dan contest next time around as they're always fun and a huge well done to Rich for a very fun contest to end the year, with a really unique style of scoreboard to keep everyone feeling involved from start to finish.
December 16Dec 16 Of all the results not to follow live. 😄Had a great time catching up on this, don't remember seeing myself in 1st (certainly not a decent way through votes) on the scoreboard since The Midnight! Started to have notions when I saw that happening, was hoping for a top 5, but still very happy with 9th. Didn't expect that at all, you never know when something will click with so many people - thanks for all the points, especially all of those medals (18s from Terra Avium, Fljótavík and Summericia! ❤️).Like Bré said, it's only my 4th top 10 after Lights [5th in BJSC 96] , The Midnight [2nd in BJSC 110] and We Lost The Sea [7th in BJSC 157], so it's a big thing for Aelandor! 9th is an unique position too. Great way to close the year in BJSC. Congrats to Dan as well, great track, very happy to see it as a winner!
December 16Dec 16 another win i did NOT see coming, but a great song by an iconic artist so well deserved. if you’d offered me 11th at the start of these results i’d have bitten your hand off so no complaints here lol. still kinda agonising to be so close to top 10 tho 😭 especially with an extra 18 if addy had not withdrawn. i blame putin.
December 16Dec 16 Congrats to Dan and thanks gooddelta for hosting! A few robbed faves for me (Ojnoj Pagasa and Klum Rep especially) but happy to have voted for quite a few of the top 10. Pestolia has been on a real sub-25th place residency lately buuut thank you all the voters especially Taahino and Neliönoir <3

How often do these take place and what is the difference to the BJSC?I noticed these questions kinda stayed unanswered oops. Can't really answer the first one as I was away for a long time but one difference would be that they are themed - for example Christmas (as mentioned), Halloween, Worldvision (where everyone is assigned a place in the world and you send a song from that place), Masquerade ('masquerading' as another BJSC country by recycling a former artist of theirs), I also remember there being a country music spin-off once, a Japan vs South Korea one, an instrumentals one, a movie soundtrack one, and probably others that I can't remember right now. 😊Another difference would be that depending on the interest in the theme, there might be slightly less people taking part so there might not be semis (I don't remember ever being part of a spin-off with semis, although I could be wrong 🤔). And people probably in general don't count their spin-off stats as part of their main entries if that makes sense, like it's kinda its own animal. Edited December 17Dec 17 by matto
December 17Dec 17 There was also Buzzfestivalen this year but not sure if that is considered a spin-off.
December 17Dec 17 There's no real schedule for the spinoffs, I don't want to put words in the mods' mouths but I think they're open for people to put requests in should they wish to run one. Honest truth is that there is a limit to how many song contests can be entered by enough people and with a full schedule of 10 BJSC contests a year plus whatever other song contests are going on in other forums doesn't leave too much space for the spinoff forum any more sadly. There's definitely some good creative spinoffs out there, and new ones are perhaps even better than rerunning an older concept. If you can think of any.Buzzfestivalen is technically a spinoff yes but because of its history as a common filler for the mid-year month off it has always gone in the main forum.
December 17Dec 17 I'm still keen on my years-long idea of 'everyone enters two songs in one contest' 🤭 I'm just not sure if I could commit to hosting it, especially on my own. It's a very simple idea but would potentially be fun, like maybe someone comes first and last lol, or maybe someone has two songs in the top 5, etc. It would be kinda interesting to follow haha. (Maybe I should ask @Sabrewulf to host it with me lol as we're friends in-person)There was that UP vs Nuggets contest many years ago where people had two songs but those were taken from past contests.
December 17Dec 17 Author We did have a collaborations spin-off last year, where two members were paired together at random to choose two songs to enter together. Was quite fun, and interesting to compete alongside somebody and discuss entry choices with each other!
