Gooddelta opted for Heavy-K, born Mkhululi Siqula, a South African DJ and producer widely recognized for his energetic and rhythm-driven Afro-house sound. With a career spanning nearly two decades, he has become a defining figure in contemporary South African dance music. In 2017, his single “Inde”, a collaboration with fellow SA artistes Bucie Nkomo and Nokwazi emerged as one of their most successful releases, achieving multi-platinum certification in South Africa and cementing his influence within the genre.

Next a track that is doing very well so far. Visage, a seminal British group formed in 1978 and led by Steve Strange, drew inspiration from the emerging Black American dance music scene, particularly disco, funk, and early electronic sounds. While their music was predominantly embraced by queer nightlife spaces, it also achieved both critical and commercial success, with their iconic track “Fade to Grey” reaching the Top 10 in early 1981, however they never replicated its success. “Moon Over Moscow,” an instrumental track, was never released as a single in the UK, yet it remains one of the standout moments from their self-titled debut album.

The Sequence are an all-female hip-hop group from South Carolina who emerged in the late 1970s, and featured the one and only Angie Stone (“I Wish I Didn’t Miss You”, RIP :(), as well as contemporaries Blondy, and Cheryl the Pearl. Their collaboration with Spoonie Gee, the energetic and playful “Monster Jam”, which blends disco and old-school hip-hop beats with the trademark sounds of the group is the entry for Rollo in this edition. This collaboration was a key moment in hip-hop history and within the pioneering period of club culture, coming at a time of the emergence of black dance music and connecting directly with the exciting and vibrant club culture of the era.

Thanks to Doctor Blind for hosting this edition. There wasn't room in my vote for Horsegirl, Nia Archives or TS7 & Katie May. These were my top 10:

12pts Mici & Sun-El Musician - Respond

10pts Kevin Aviance - Beautiful

8pts Pet Shop Boys - Bet She's Not Your Girlfriend

7pts Derrick May - Kaotic Harmony

6pts Shannon - Give Me Tonight

5pts Rody Joh & JayBless - M2Ki2

4pts Visage - Moon Over Moscow

3pts Francis Mercier & Magic System - Premier Gaou

2pts Tygapaw - M32 Riddim

1pt Arun Verone - Empty Soul

Apols I missed the start of this as I suck at multitasking and was at the 80s SyncTube session of the week. Have quickly caught up now and will be around for the remainder!

Most of my favourites are still yet to be unveiled, lovely entry from Lewis though (I did think it sounded vaguely familiar from somewhere, I think I just listened to it when Jade charted it before haha), 'Moon Over Moscow' was a great discovery too (between this and the aforementioned 80s sessions I am rapidly becoming more familiar with Visage's discog after previously only knowing the one obvious song, 'Fade To Grey' is hard to top but they've got a few other good songs it turns out) and good picks from Doctor B and Mattias as well.

(enjoying reading all the little blurbs also!)

'Monster Jam' being a Rollo entry is quite a surprise - I mean it's retro and very lengthy so it shouldn't be, but I wouldn't have expected Rollo to tap into old school hip-hop for an entry.

Pleased to see Visage doing so well at the moment wub

'Fade to Grey' is one of my favourite songs, so it's difficult for anything else to live up to that, but this is one of the best of the rest of theirs for me so a good choice.

Dan, one of the most successful ever partipants in Club Bizarre, has for this edition opted for queer, non-binary artist, TYGAPAW as the artist behind their entry. Born in Mandeville, Jamaica, TYGAPAW blends their Caribbean roots with their queer identity, creating a distinctive mix of techno beats and emotional club sound. “M32 Riddim” exemplifies this fusion, reflecting both their Caribbean heritage and connection to experimental underground dance culture. The track celebrates queer identity, resistance, and the broader power of music to transcend boundaries, not that far away from the literal banger of a motorway of its namesake (M32 is the M4 to Bristol spur), as it drives the spirit of liberation forward.

DEBUT

Woop!

Yay, we do love a debut, and with such amazing taste! Welcome. Debutant Nine And ¾ opted to send iconic Venezuelan producer, singer, and composer Arca. A significant figure within LGBTQ+ representation in electronic and experimental music, she is best known for her groundbreaking, genre-defying music that blends electronic, experimental sound, and is heavily influenced by industrial, classical and avant-garde music, with influences that heavily draw on other such artists like Bjork, and Aphex Twin. The track “Prada/Rakata” is a great example of her work, it is a bold track that blends/juxtaposing the delicate and vulnerable themes typical of her music with loud, abrasive and experimental backdrops.

I didn't know my song before this contest. I found it after searching Spotify for something from the 20th Century that I might like. It's not picking up many votes so far but thanks to those who have given it some points.

For Club Bizarre’s fifth most successful participant of all-time, with a Top 10 hit rate on a very impressive 50%, Jade has sent North London artist Tiffani Singh-Brown (Catching Cairo). Her productions to-date have reflected a diverse and eclectic music upbringing; derived from when she was introduced to music by her mother, immersed in a mix of indie rock and 90s R&B. In recent years she has become more synonymous with Drum and Bass, house, jungle and underground dance, cementing her well deserved reputation for crafting emotive tracks that connect the dancefloor to the heart. As it’s title suggests “High Speed Chase” with its energetic breakbeats and driving bassline makes for a perfect late-night drive soundtrack.

Thanks for that great write-up, Doctor B!

This hasn't really stood out as much as I hoped so far but thank you to Dan, Jim, Lewis and Mattias for the points 💗

Thanks Rich, Dan and Nine And ¾ for some more points - I wasn't expecting this entry to do at all well so even top 10 at this stage is a surprise.

Oh that was a wonderful discovery, Rich! Hope it picks up a bit more before the end.

Thanks Jade, and to Dan for the 12!

This was one of my favourite songs of 2017, and big on the Afro House scene, which I know is usually overlooked on BuzzJack but glad to see Respond doing a little better at least, great choice Lewis!
