8 glaive - We Don't Leave the House | 2-1-1-1-4-5-5-7-11-12-12-16-11-...

The last time glaive reached #1 in my chart was with all i do is try my best, the third single from his 2023 debut album i care so much that i don't care at all. This album saw him sidestep into more of an alt-pop lane, away from the hyperpop sound that made him famous. Subsequent releases have seen him embrace hyperpop once more, including his 2025 album Y'all, which spawned the energetic singles Asheville (#5) and Appalachia (#3) before its release. It was upon hearing the album that I heard its hidden gem - focus track and third single We Don't Leave the House, a bouncy hyperpop track about club culture and peer pressure.

Landing behind Rita Ora's All Natural in its opening week, We Don't Leave the House climbed to #1 a week later to become glaive's first chart-topper in two years. It stayed there for three weeks, his best run to date, and has remained in my chart since. It matches as if as his best EOY chart position to date, and I'd say it's firmly on its way to becoming my favourite of his songs so far - the production and the melody are what caught my ear initially, but the lyrics are great too. It's a proper rave track, ironically perfect for clubs...! I'm seeing glaive live in a couple of weeks and I'm really excited to experience this song in a live setting.

7 Tate McRae - Sports car | 1-2-3-3-5-7-12-14-20-21-31-30-33-38-39-x-39-18-33-x-40-x

I've been a fan of Tate McRae ever since I first heard you broke me first. It was a top 10 hit in my chart, in fact, and I've enjoyed all of her subsequent material too. With two great singles already released from Tate's newly announced third album So Close to What, I was really excited for her first single of 2025, and it was love at first listen. Sports car evokes Pussycat Dolls debut album vibes, channelling Buttons in terms of how seductive and sexy a track it is. The whispered hook is genius, enhanced by top notch production, and I knew immediately that I had a contender for my favourite Tate song to date.

Sure enough, Sports car debuted at #1 in my chart at the beginning of the year, becoming her very first #1 hit, and it set the tone for a momentous 2025 for Tate. So Close to What followed it to #1 in my album chart, and she scored two more #2 hits throughout the year. Sports car remains my favourite track from the era, and her discography as a whole, and it's by far her highest EOY position to date - in fact, before this year, her only EOY top 40 hit had been at #40, as a feature on Regard's You (also with Troye Sivan). It was amazing to see Sports car blossom into a huge hit globally too, tying for her highest peaking hit in the UK chart. It also popped off when I heard it live at both the Summertime Ball and Tate's own tour!

6 Knox - Going, Going, Gone | 7-11-11-11-3-1-2-5-9-12-13-24-25-18-19-16-18-13-14-14-21-20-22-5-6-18-21-22-24-39-38-40-x-38-x

Many of the songs that connected with me the most from Knox's debut album were non-singles. The album's title track, though, served as the album's focus track upon release, as well as its fourth single. Complete with a music video that perfectly complements the album's aesthetic, with the paper planes and cool comic book-style effects, Going, Going, Gone was an immediate favourite. It's Knox's vibe perfectly summed up in one song, with pop-punk vibes running through the entire track, and a huge singalong chorus - being able to sing "is it a bird? is it a plane? or is it an angel taking my heart away?" at the top of my lungs at Knox's tour was a highlight of the night!

Going, Going, Gone debuted at #7 in my chart and was Knox's third highest track of that week. The order of all of Knox's charting songs changed at regular intervals, and Going, Going, Gone gained steam a few weeks in, growing in my affections until it cracked the top 3, before becoming Knox's second #1 hit. Though it spent just a week at the top, its 33 weeks in the top 40 speak volumes about its longevity. The fact it's only Knox's third highest song of the year is a testament to how huge a year 2025 was too - he's only the second artist to have three songs in my EOY top 6 (following Why Don't We in 2018)!

5 Benson Boone - Sorry I'm Here for Someone Else | 1-2-3-2-3-4-4-5-8-12-15-16-18-21-23-18-8-11-17-23-27-30-35-38-x-17-36-x

One of my most anticipated releases in the first part of 2025 was the comeback of Benson Boone. Of course, he hadn't been gone that long - Beautiful Things only came out a year beforehand, and that wasn't even his last 2024 release. Nevertheless, the idea of a new campaign of music was really exciting, especially having heard teasers of some of the songs from his as-then-untitled second album. I'd initially expected the first single to be something like I Wanna Be the One You Call, which was teased at first, but I'm really pleased he went with Sorry I'm Here for Someone Else. The song perfectly tapped into Benson's growing showmanship, bringing a more upbeat energy than his prior hits, but still letting his vocals soar over the top, particularly when the song shakes up in the final section (which deserved to be even longer!).

It was no surprise that Sorry I'm Here for Someone Else topped my chart in week 1, given Benson's made the top spot with each and every one of his singles. Though it only spent a week at #1, it spent nine weeks in my top 10 from debut, and another when the album came out, and it's become one of his longest running hits in my chart. It's also his seventh EOY top 10 hit, with an eighth still to be announced - could Benson become the second artist ever to top my EOY in two different years?

4 Knox - D.N.A | 26-31-36-29-18-18-21-23-26-36-40-x-31-28-15-10-6-8-1-1-5-8-8-7-16-14-13-15-16-13-18-22-18-...

The selection of songs that hit me the hardest from Knox's Going, Going, Gone album are a curious bunch. Of course, they're all fantastic songs, but on paper they don't look like the expected hits, given most of them weren't actually singles. This one's a particularly interesting case, given it's never been a single, hasn't even had a live version release like Voicemail had. D.N.A is simply a song that connected and resonated with me over a period of time and whenever it felt like it was running out of steam, it seemed to find another wind! The song speaks for itself, though. It's a more midtempo track than much of the album, but it builds and builds, and that's something I can never resist. It's the best display of Knox's lyricism too, because the chorus contains, in my opinion, the best lyric of 2025 - "you're still in my DNA, so do not ask, do not ask if I'm okay". The double meaning of DNA is pretty genius! Not to mention how that chorus is just made for shouting along to at a concert, and I did just that in September.

D.N.A originally debuted at #26, the ninth highest Knox track of the week out of twelve that were charting, and only three of the songs above it were already charting before the album's release. Though it lingered in the low top 40 for a few weeks, it gained some steam and found itself in the top 20, landing a respectable run before it gracefully fell out of the top 40. That was already an impressive stint for a song that hadn't made my top 10, but it found itself getting a second wind later on, re-entering my chart and soaring to new peaks, further boosted by the album's deluxe release, and eventually, the Going, Going, Gone Tour, which saw the song finally jump to #1 for two weeks! It's still hanging around in my chart, even spending another two weeks in my top 10 earlier in January, so there's plenty of life in it yet, and who knows, perhaps with more time, it could have contended for the top spot?

Hi Joseph

It's great to see 'Sports car' so high! 2025 was Tate's year and the whisper vocals are already iconic!

Really like "Sorry I'm Here For Someone Else", probably the most I liked from Benson Boone. Even if it's overplayed for me, since German Radios play this one a lot.

3 Benson Boone - Mystical Magical | 1-1-2-3-6-10-13-4-3-4-6-11-14-19-24-26-25-33-34-39-x-13-19-21-26-30-29-32-28-...

It's not a repeat win for Benson Boone, but he does nonetheless score his joint second highest EOY placement! Sorry I'm Here for Someone Else set the tone for Benson's second album so perfectly, but the clip for Mystical Magical had me intrigued immediately. It was of the pre-chorus, the "moonbeam ice cream" section, which is a random but great lyric and I can't blame him for cashing in on it, and I enjoyed how retro/80s it sounded, and so very different for Benson! Yet, it works so well, and proves the versatility of Benson's artistry. The full song didn't disappoint either. The interpolation of Physical works brilliantly but the verses are also great, and Benson's voice is such a natural fit for this kind of track.

Again, no surprise that it debuted at #1 in my chart, and it spent two weeks there, the only one of Benson's four #1s in 2025 to last more than a week at the top. A decent opening run in the top 10 was followed by a return stint following the Summertime Ball, where Benson was one of the headline acts, and then his album release. Following Benson's tour in November, it re-entered my top 20, and it's stayed in my chart since then! It's such a joyous song and it deserved to be the biggest hit of the era, but a UK top 10 placement really was the least it deserved so it's a shame it stalled just outside. It's hopefully going to remain a setlist staple for Benson in the years to come!

2 Knox - The DJ | 1-1-1-1-4-2-4-4-9-14-16-17-28-28-25-25-22-24-17-18-19-25-24-26-6-7-19-23-24-28-40-39-x-37-40-37-...

It's been one hell of a year for Ohio-born, Nashville-based singer Knox. After two previous EPs, he finally released his debut album, preceded by three singles. Up to that point, Knox had become the artist in my chart with the most top 10 hits who lacked a #1 single. He'd notched up 19 top 10 hits, beginning with his proper debut single Sneakers, and had come close to the #1 spot with #2 hits Dumpster Fire, Invisible and Pick Your Poison. All it was going to take was the right song, on the right week, and surely he'd hit the top spot, right?

Enter The DJ! Released as a surprise promotional single just days before the album release, The DJ was an instant smash for me. It's classic Knox in the sense that it maintains his pop-rock sensibilities, but it's a perhaps more poppy track, with very playful lyrics about having feelings for a confident, outgoing woman. Its chorus is probably the biggest singalong pop chorus on the whole album, and the track's laced with hooks. Even a curious lyric or two is able to add to the fun factor.

On just half a week of availability, The DJ became Knox's first #1 hit. It was his landmark 20th top 10, so a fitting track to manage it with. It took to the top spot in style, too, by spending four weeks there, and claiming the longest running #1 hit of 2025. A solid top 10 run was added to later down the line when it returned for two more weeks after Knox's tour, having firmly cemented itself usually as one of multiple Knox songs in my top 40. It's his highest EOY position to date and tops off a landmark year with his first four EOY top 10s arriving in one go. Unluckily, it couldn't quite take #1, but maybe next year, with the new music Knox is already teasing?

1 dearALICE - Ariana | 1-2-3-4-1-2-2-2-2-5-8-11-13-16-19-20-23-31-19-24-21-26-27-32-34-34-x-26-33-34-34-37-31-27-30-19-...

This time last year, I was already counting down to my most anticipated single release of the year. After launching on the BBC show Made in Korea: The K-Pop Experience, which documented their training via K-Pop company SM Entertainment, dearALICE were getting ready to properly launch their career. I was already really excited to hear what they would come up with, given how strong the Made in Korea material was, and their general likeability during the TV series.

Their debut single Ariana premiered during a performance at SMTOWN in Seoul in mid-January. The song sounded very different to the Made in Korea tracks - the production was more sparse, gradually building as the song continued, with a cooler vibe than the out and out pop tracks they'd trained with. Initially, I was taken aback, but by the end of the song, I was addicted. There are too many hooks to resist! "She loves Ariana" was going round and round my head based on just the one play of the performance. The choreography was sharp, too, so my expectations were firmly being met.

The wait for the single to actually be released felt agonising. It wasn't released to streaming until 21st February! The production of the first version released felt even more sparse, but it didn't take away from the magic of the track. This was later swapped out for the more "beefed up" version performed at SMTOWN, which is the definitive version of the track, for me. All five members sound great, and the track got a really cool music video too, which sees them on board a London Underground train.

Needless to say, I was hooked from the first proper play. I couldn't not be after such a long wait, and though I tried to ration my plays of the live performance, I couldn't help rewatching it a few times! Ariana debuted at #1 in my chart, becoming their second #1 as a group following Vibes. It returned to the top for a second week in its fifth week charting, and spent a total of 11 weeks top 10. After I saw them live in October (an amazing show with great energy!), Ariana returned to my top 40, where it's been ever since. It's by far my most played track of 2025, even without counting the alternative versions available (two alternative versions are included on their debut EP, bitterSWEETsummer). It's unclear what will become of dearALICE next, and I've stanned my fair share of floppy boybands over the years, but success doesn't really matter to me when I've not only received a huge bop like this, but also created memories along the way, including an awesome meet and greet at their concert! They're the second boyband to top my EOY chart, following Why Don't We in 2018, and fourth group overall, with Girls Aloud in 2012 and S Club in 2023 rounding off the list.
