Guys, if you're going to work collaboratively on a recurrent list, could you take the discussion to PMs please? It's cluttering up the thread! Thanks!

But how else am I supposed to know if a 12 year old song is on the recurrent list or not Joseph?1?1?

Big Top 40 just make it up as they go along don't they? 😭

They are compiled from ITunes and Apple Music charts plus radio airplay

The Big Top 40 methodology has always been shady and unclear, there are plenty of chart placements that have made absolutely no sense on there. It's why it's not an official chart by any definition and it shouldn't be viewed as such, especially on a chart forum where we know Radio 1's chart is the official one.

zara and tyla are on

as is silent treatment, Elizabeth Taylor (hot recurrent), Talk To Me and Satisfaction Skank

I wonder what Monday will bring to us

Maybe they might give Ariana Grande tickets?? Or maybe a pop star will now join the Capital team

I used to follow it every week for a while in the late 00's/early 10's. And it absolutely 100% was calculated from real figures (at least back then). They got the sales data for iTunes directly from Apple, and the airplay data directly from themselves (Global).

It was highly predictable, I knew roughly where every song would be charting each week. If the charts were made up it would be impossible to predict and I would have noticed glaring errors and inconsistencies every week.

It was a completely harmless (and frankly meaningless) chart. Hundreds of radio stations all over the world do their own charts. Some simply rank their most spinned songs for the week, some go by number of requests from their listeners, some get their listeners to vote, some get their DJs to make their own. Given that some platforms like Spotify give out exact streaming figures, some stations now may even be using Spotify data for their own charts without needing a partnership!

BBC have a partnership with the OCC so can air the official chart. Global had a partnership with Apple so they could make the Big Top 40 by combining their own airplay with the iTunes sales figures each week.

All that said, I have absolutely NO idea how they are calculating it today. Maybe it truly is just made up now (do they even still have the partnership with Apple?).

I don’t think so but they do mention “this song had big numbers on Apple Music” or “the numbers on Apple Music means that (insert song) is up (insert figure) places/this week’s highest climber”

So I’m guessing there’s a glitch with the playlist page that shows songs from the Capital Dance playlist that Capital aren’t actually playing. James Hype, Joel Corry and Chris Stussy were not posted on their Instagram like all other legitimate playlist adds and not played.

most likely this.

Homewrecker and I believe Aperture are still on the playlist btw they are just more accidental removals. Elizabeth Taylor is now a hot recurrent.

Otherwise all the interesting songs left the playlist… joy.
