Welcome to the voting stage of the 12th edition of The Best Song Contest In The World... Ever!

We have asked for entries this month with a singular song title, and one that is itself identified as being a noun in the English language. Twenty-three people presented their entries and it gives me great pleasure to reveal them all to you now. There were a couple of vetoes along the way, along with the usual reconfirmations, but these are the final group of songs for you to get your teeth stuck into;

  1. The Doobie Brothers – Spirit

  2. Saint Etienne – Avenue

  3. Wonky Alice – Caterpillars

  4. Out Of Order – Tears

  5. Juniper – Weatherman

  6. Bows – Rockets

  7. Happy Rhodes – Winter

  8. Deep Forest – Gathering

  9. Tori Amos – Hotel

  10. Earth & Fire – Weekend

  11. Peter Gabriel – Intruder

  12. Portishead – Biscuit

  13. Talking Heads – Heaven

  14. Ted Nugent – Stranglehold

  15. U.S.U.R.A. & Datura – Infinity [Astrological Mix]

  16. Saints & Sinners – Peace

  17. Christoph De Babalon – Water

  18. Ministry – Revenge

  19. Queen – Liar

  20. The Beloved – Satellite

  21. Pulp – Stacks

  22. Space Art – Onyx

  23. Hubert Kah – Limousine

I think Space Art will do well. They got a good reaction at the listenthrough.

Saint Etienne again I did wonder if someone might send that one. No one found a Pet Shop Boys song fitting the theme though!

I can host a synctube listenthrough on Thursday evening. I think the one for the Pop Forum contest is on Wednesday. With BJSC starting soon, I think it would be best to do it this week.

Looking forward to this! Although on first glance, there will have to be something absolutely extraordinary in there for me to not already know where my 12 is heading <3

When I was struggling for an entry I was sooooo tempted to send a Pet Shop Boys track, sort of wish I had done now

Miserablism missed its chance, shame.

Thanks for putting the Spotify playlist together, Wardy. Are the songs by Out Of Order and Juniper not on Spotify? There seem to be 15 acts called Out Of Order on there so I can see how it would be difficult to find the right one.

This should be fun, there are two tracks on there that were on my shortlist too. I'm curious tofind out who sent them in.

The persnickety one in me just wishes there was nothing in brackets there 🤣 Although 'astrological mix' sounds intriguing 🤔

(Maybe I sent it xoxo)

I couldn't find them but you're welcome to prove me wrong! Would be nice to have all the songs together on that playlist otherwise.

I'll leave it to the entrants of those songs to PM you if they know where to find them.

Saint Etienne are really fast becoming the new Pet Shop Boys...

I know most of the artists here but the only song I have heard to my knowledge is the Tori Amos one, from the same album as recent BJSC entry 'Spark' which I listened to as a SyncTube session on here before - 'Hotel' was my favourite on the album at that time so looking forward to revisiting!

I very nearly sent a near 15 minute song to this which I see would have been the longest by far teresa decided to keep looking though and found something else but perhaps I can keep that other song in my pocket for if a moment arises where I feel like going full #longsongbloc x

Well I never knew the original Weekend covered by Scooter so thanks to ever sent that one in! (Although what happened to Wind? thinking)

Well done everyone, not a single track I know well, and only 2 or 3 that I've heard maybe once or twice!

Abba's Soldiers, Eagle, Tiger, Bumblebee and Pet Shop Boys' Integral, Legacy, Footsteps, could quite easily have been in this contest but I wouldnt wish to be any more predictable. 😇Not to mention The Beatles' Rain, Girl, Because. None of them would have leapfrogged the obscure 1970 kiddie fave I'm saving up though 😄

They have several that would have fit the theme - wish I'd thought of entering 'Shopping'!

I very nearly sent that to the last Club Bizarre, but instead I went for another of their B-sides 'Bet She's Not Your Girlfriend'!

Portishead's Dummy is an incredible album and was my foray into trip-hop, even if many artists reject that label, including Portishead themselves I think (also the term has become even more vague and convoluted in my opinion), so 'Biscuit' will no doubt be a highlight among these for me.

I also know several of the other songs, but mostly I just know the artists and not these particular songs.

'Girl' is one of my favourite Beatles songs! It didn't do very well in the Beatles rate a couple of years ago though.

'Shopping' sprang to mind for me too.

Same for me, though my favourite on the album is 'Roads' which would also have fit the theme had it not been entered and finished third in a previous edition of these contests!

Also 'Pedestal' and 'Strangers' would've worked too - chill bangers!

Actually I was also veeery briefly considering 'Cowboys' off their self-titled second album (btw, when an album is self-titled I find that incredibly boring and almost frustrating lmao 😆) which is a cool song but it was just a momentary thought really as I did look at a very large amount of artists' discographies for this lol. It was a ride is all I have to say.
