Once an aspiring fashion designer, the powerhouse singer Diana Ross epitomized Motown’s appeal in the ’60s: She was ever elegant, gracious, beautifully turned out—and her crystalline voice transcended everyday troubles like a little slice of heaven. Ross was born in 1944 in Detroit, and by the time she was 15 years old, the city had become a cultural hotbed teeming with musicians and an upwardly mobile Black middle class that was ready to enjoy the good life. Ross—who had sung in church—joined a vocal group called The Primettes; they went on to sign with Motown and were renamed The Supremes. Never been wild on this track, feel like my favourite Bruno songs would largely be less conventional (ie 24K Magic, despite being a big hit, feels more forgotten than the others nowadays but it's much better than this imo)

Come to think of it, I prefer most of Bruno's #2s (yes, even 'When I Was Your Man') to his #1s, 'Uptown Funk' is the only one I'd definitely rank ahead of some of them!

I can't remember back then but "sex" isn't usually censored nowadays! ("sex addict" was left uncensored in their Pussy Palace edit for example)
