It was the clear bottom 3 from the moment I heard it for the first time.

It was definitely the best stage show/performance combo we've done in the last ten years, excluding 'Space Man'.

Song style's a bit niche and we need to ditch the writing camp, but LMNC has been a fantastic representative for the UK, this is our first last place which I feel is entirely undeserved (seriously, this is so far ahead of 2003, 2008, 2010, 2019, 2021 that it shouldn't even be in the same category as those) and nothing on the televote three years in a row is just wrong - this and last year deserved far more from the public. I think I was thinking that even with the juries likely to pay this dust we'd get enough on the televote to make it a reverse result to Remember Monday and that would have been fine, but then you get crap like Greece taking up that lane which was inferior in every way to this, I'm mad.

At least Sam has had the right attitude throughout this. Celebrating 'eins point' last night was great to see, but he deserved a lot more numerical love from Europe.

I dint know he had to use his own money to fund the staging.

The issue is the BBC will just look at Eurovision as guaranteed decent viewing figures, over 5 million this year despite everything and a dip from last year. Eurovision is still shaking being seen as a joke so it’s just something fun people watch with their families as a tradition, no big artist is ever going to want to do it and the likelihood goes down and down each year that the show itself becomes more a joke with everything happening. So they won’t pull out, they won’t look at what they’re doing and change tact, they’ll do whatever and come last and have a little laugh and move on.

I don’t even think the song was that bad, it was something completely different for Eurovision in general and I’d rather come last with that than 20th with some boring ballad.

I think it’s hard to compare this years UK points score to last year.

As last year Italy gave 12 (fraudulent) points to the UK. This year Italy gave their 12 points to Belgium. It’s clear neither the UK last year nor Belgium this year were 12 point songs.

So overall, my point is, when you have an untrustworthy jury, like the Italian one, the scores can’t be trusted.

Yes, it was more interesting than usual but I’m sorry, this was so amateur and the writing was on the wall from the get go. I expected 0pts from jury and televote, so I was one point off being right. If you do this type of thing, it has to be done VERY well. I don’t even think, bar the final chorus, this song feels particularly fun? I don’t want to get up and dance to it so what’s really the point of it? Graham, sadly, summed it up by saying “bless him, this is not his world” - well, what the f*** are we doing as a country with a huge music industry if we’re sending people where this isn’t their world?!

These results hurt more because of how we’ve just slowly reversed back to Square 1 after Sam, it’s like we never ever learn ANYTHING. And it’s not that hard because, for the last two years, most fans could’ve predicted the songs wouldn’t have done well so how has this not been picked up before we reach the contest?

And this is no hate to LMNC, I think they’re pretty cool in their own lane and I think this year was way more interesting and less safe than we usually take it. It’s nice to see us out of the Radio 2 sphere of “safe and listenable”, but the whole package never felt anywhere close to competitive for me.

We just MUST have Dara’s, Alexandra Capitanescu’s, Satoshi’s or even just Delta Goodrem’s in our country who can perform the shit out of a number because it’s been 4 years in a row of performers where I was just relieved they got to the end of the song without messing up and I want to be CONFIDENT.

What RobBot said, and also to get even ONE point from the televote, the song needs to be top ten most voted in a country. UK was 15th at best (AUS) so clearly people either disliked it or felt very indifferent towards it.

I feel really bad for him as well. He had the basic artistry and the beginnings of a great song but he clearly didn’t have the support required to turn it into a killer song, polish the lyrics and come up with a slick stage performance. The BBC people involved just didn’t know what to do with this I suspect as it isn’t in their MOR vocabulary, so just ended up letting it bomb.

From an outside perspective, this just didn’t translate and never went anywhere. A successful song will always have a point of view that won’t depend on the lyrics being understood. I feel like many people here expected Europe to get on board because it had a meaning and it was different from the previous years? There was no cultural element that you wouldn’t find anywhere else either. I’m sorry to be this blunt but this was just a mid song with a performance bordering on gimmicky but not committing to it. This rarely translates into points, especially this year when the favourites were a very diverse bunch in terms of genres and very televote friendly. I mean even Serbia and Croatia suffered this time and would’ve easily gotten 100+ any other year, for example.

i think y’all being too harsh on lmnc x look we all want the uk to not do that badly every year but unfortunately i think it has become a tradition at this point so for us to get out of this we have to do put in much more effort than other countries.

lmnc is a good first step and it’s fine that it didn’t do well at all because at least we know this niche of fun, bonkers type of entry doesn’t translate. then yes next year try something different, like celtic folktronic, punk etc. what i think they are at least getting is we need a usp and accessible relatable entry to get televoting. or we can revert to the remember monday approach and try to persuade the jury which seems to be much easier these days cough france cough but i think this is more of a short-sighted route if any lol

or we can accept the times have changed and we can’t just have a confident and competent singer cough latvia cough and the public can make the worst decisions cough switzerland 2025 cough. the more i read this thread the more i don’t understand how sam ryder did that well ijbol (with a song i find one of the weaker ones we sent this decade and a staging that isn’t that exciting😭😭😭)

The UK seem to do well when we get involved in the pomp and ceremony of what people consider 'British'. Andrew Lloyd Webber on the piano playing a classy ballad with Jade delivering a strong vocal, Sam Ryder channelling the greats of the 1970s. Maybe that's the lane we are best at, although it would be nice to do well with something more progressive too, but BBC just don't do that well it seems.

Certainly Italy do well by being unashamedly and unflinchingly Italian. It would be interesting to explore British culture more - you could use Celtic instruments or the Welsh choir tradition for example, but weave it into something that feels current.
