Wonderful Life only got to number 72 in 1986 but was reissued after 'Sweetest Smile' reached number 8 the following year. The beautifully photographed video was filmed in Southport and Wallasey. Black was the Liverpudlian singer Colin Vearncombe. He moved to Ireland but sadly died in 2016, two weeks after a car accident.

  • Or maybe Bananarama's version leans in more to people's pop tastes rather than being to do with recency? A 40 year old song isn't really that much more recent compared to a 56 year old song!

27. Meat Loaf - Bat Out Of Hell 1082pts

Writer - Jim Steinman

Top scores - Cymro87 48, danG 47, gasman449 45, Chez Wombat 45

Low scores - Jester 1, DaTilt 2, JackJones 4

Average score - 25.2

Released more than a year after its parent album, Bat Out Of Hell still reached number 15 in 1979. It was reissued in 1993 after the success of the number 1 single 'I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That).

I Miss You is up there as one of my favourite Blink songs. Tom's voice doesn't really fit the tone but at least it makes for a memorable performance that has helped the song live on as a minor meme! Had my first listen of Wonderful Life because of this rate, another example of 80s pop that just doesn't click with me at all. Not a fan of theatrical stuff for the most part but Bat Out Of Hell is a huge classic, an epic 9 minutes which should've finished higher ♥️

Inevitability at this stage I’m starting to lose songs from my top 25. All three of them, with Meatloaf in my top 10. But my 1 pointer clings on.

Another two classics lost there in 'Bat Out Of Hell' and 'Wonderful Life'. I've never heard anything else by Black, I should probably seek something out.

Blink-182 have made some bangers in their time but for some reason I never properly took to 'I Miss You', it just lacks something for me. It's not a bad song but it's not one I'd ever rush to play.

Right it’s beautiful and his Debut Album with the same name is one the best from the 80s.So many great songs on it Everything Is Coming Up Roses,Sometimes For The Asking Finder,Paradise,Sweetest Smile .

Three bangers in a row gone there, a lot of my favourites starting to fall before we've reached halfway 😢

I only know Sweetest Smile, which I used to love. I guess it has a vibe of ‘You Have Been Loved’ about it.

I think these days I find both Black tracks a little depressing - so even though ‘Wonderful Life’ used to be a favourite of mine, I didn’t place it particularly high.

I Miss You is an internet cafe bop x

I don't know what that means but I wouldn't categorise it as a bop of any kind x
