April 4Apr 4 Author 82. A Working Man - £1.9 million Human traffickers beware. Levon Cade left behind a decorated military career in the black ops to live a simple life working construction. But when his boss’s daughter, who is like family to him, is taken by human traffickers, his search to bring her home uncovers a world of corruption far greater than he ever could have imagined.Director: David AyerCast: Jason Statham, Jason Flemyng, Michael PeñaRelease Date: 28th March 2024Distributor: Warner Bros.Certification: 15Genre: ActionRotten Tomatoes: 47%IMDb: 5.7 Top 15 Chart Run: 3-5-10-15 (4 weeks)Opening Weekend: £658,134 (#3) Every Q1, we get a recycled Jason Statham action flick and they always seem to consistently find enough of the audience to make a nice little profit but are never thought about again. Seriously, could anyone still even name the one he released earlier this year? In fact, 2025's effort 'A Working Man' even kept the same director as the year before in Suicide Squad's David Ayer. Although this one was a case of diminishing returns as it only did half of 'The Beekeeper' (£3.8 million, EOY #51, 2024). The most interesting fact about this one was that it was co-written by Sylvester Stallone (and that it was a US Box Office #1 beating out 'Snow White').
April 4Apr 4 Author 81. Roofman - £2 million Based on actual events. And terrible decisions. Levon Cade left behind a decorated military career in the black ops to live a simple life working construction. But when his boss’s daughter, who is like family to him, is taken by human traffickers, his search to bring her A former Army Ranger and struggling father turns to robbing McDonald’s restaurants by cutting holes in their roofs, earning him the nickname “Roofman.” After escaping prison, he secretly lives inside a Toys “R” Us for six months, surviving undetected while planning his next move. But when he falls for a divorced mom drawn to his undeniable charm, his double life begins to unravel, setting off a compelling and suspenseful game of cat and mouse as his past closes in.Director: Derek CianfranceCast: Channing Tatum, Kirsten Dunst, LaKeith StanfieldRelease Date: 17th October 2025Distributor: ParamountCertification: 15Genre: ComedyRotten Tomatoes: 87%IMDb: 6.9 Top 15 Chart Run: 6-10-15 (3 weeks)Opening Weekend: £679,368 (#6) A biopic with a difference, this is one of those 'you couldn't write it' sort of stories and is focused on Jeffrey Manchester who was arrested for robbing McDonalds and lived inside a Toys "R" Us after escaping. A comedy/romance/drama, this is one I was disappointed to miss in cinemas. I've heard that Tatum is fantastic in the role.
April 5Apr 5 Did make me chuckle the NE ZHA 2 made over 2 billion dollars and the uk contributed so little, dont know why 😅
April 5Apr 5 Author 80. Companion - £2 million Find someone made just for you. During a weekend getaway at a secluded lakeside estate, a group of friends finds themselves entangled in a web of secrets, deception, and advanced technology. As tensions rise and loyalties are tested, they uncover unsettling truths about themselves and the world around them.Director: Drew HancockCast: Sophie Thatcher, Jack Quaid, Lukas GageRelease Date: 31st January 2025Distributor: Warner Bros.Certification: 15Genre: HorrorRotten Tomatoes: 93%IMDb: 6.9 Top 15 Chart Run: 3-9-12 (3 weeks)Opening Weekend: £739,553 (#3) The first movie I saw at the cinema in 2025 and quite possibly still the most fun I had throughout the rest of the year. While it happens pretty early and I think the marketing would make it difficult for you not to know but I imagine this would be even wilder if you didn't know where it was going. This feels like it should have been a massive star-making performance for Thatcher, she's outstanding in the role and she looks like the big screen was made for her. The last time I was as taken by seeing someone on the big screen for the first time was Anya Taylor-Joy in Split. Believe it or not, this was the first film Hancock had directed since... 'Fred 3: Camp Fred'.

This could have easily been a straight-to-streaming film but it felt like there was an effort to get comedy back on the big screen last year and this did okayish for a cheap, British comedy. It's reviews were surprisingly strong though so maybe it will find its audience on streaming in years to come.Yes some of the jokes were cheap but I adooooooooooooored this film. I really hope it picks up an audience with streaming
April 5Apr 5 Author 79. Flow - £2.1 million Disaster tore their world apart. Friendship will bring them together. A solitary cat, displaced by a great flood, finds refuge on a boat with various species and must navigate the challenges of adapting to a transformed world together.Director: Gints ZilbalodisCast: n/aRelease Date: 21st March 2025Distributor: CurzonCertification: UGenre: KidsRotten Tomatoes: 97%IMDb: 7.8 Top 15 Chart Run: 6-9-7-12-11 (5 weeks)Opening Weekend: £411,675 (#6) The feel-good story of recent award seasons, 'Flow' won 'Best Animated Feature' at last year's Oscars despite being made fully on free animation software Blender, featuring absolutely no dialogue and having a budget so tight, that they didn't even create any deleted scenes. It was the first Latvian film to ever receive an Oscar nomination and it went on to win. In its home nation, it has become the biggest film ever released. I've never heard anyone say a negative word about this and it's one that I do need to watch at some point.
April 5Apr 5 Author 78. Warfare - £2.2 million Everything is based on memory. A platoon of American Navy SEALs on a surveillance mission gone wrong in insurgent territory. Alex Garland co-directs with real-life US Navy SEAL veteran Ray Mendoza to try and make the most accurate-to-life war picture of all-time'; depicting the Battle of Ramadi during the Iraq War.
April 5Apr 5 Author 77. Inter Alia: NT Live 2025 - £2.3 million A searing new play from the team behind Prima Facie. Jessica Parks is a smart Crown Court Judge at the top of her career. There are still three more event cinema releases to come but no more NT Live releases.
April 5Apr 5 Author 76. Peppa Meets The Baby Cinema Experience - £2.4 million Join Peppa Pig and her family at the cinema as they get ready for their biggest adventure yet: welcoming a new baby.Director: Gretchen MallorieCast: Morwenna Banks, Harriette Cox, Richard RidingsRelease Date: 30th May 2025Distributor: TrafalgarCertification: UGenre: KidsRotten Tomatoes: n/aIMDb: 5.5 Top 15 Chart Run: 5-7-9-13-15-14 (6 weeks)Opening Weekend: £1,065,856 (#5) If you were worried that Peppa Pig might be losing her edge, don't fret, she now has a baby brother or sister (idk which) to deal with. It did help buck the trend with this grossing more than 2024's effort 'Peppa's Cinema Party' (£1.7 million, EOY #70). I'm surprised that that was more of a draw than the 20th anniversary with big name stars.
April 5Apr 5 Flow is probably one of my favourite movies of the last years, I know Oscar hype certainly helped it, but it's amazing to see an animated film with no dialogue do so well. It's a shame Bring Her Back hasn't matched Talk To Me's gross, but I suppose it's still a good outcome for it, their brand of brutal horror is very refreshing. Sally Hawkins definitely deserved some award attention for that performance xWarfare was also quite unfairly forgotten about for Awards season, in all technical aspects, it was absolutely stunning.
April 6Apr 6 Author 75. Flight Risk - £2.4 million Y'all need a pilot? A pilot transports a U.S. Marshal accompanying a government witness to a trial in New York. Mark Wahlberg apparently puts in a suitably crazed performance but critics didn't have much else positive to say about this one. Mark Kermode called it "one of the worst films I've ever seen".
April 6Apr 6 Author 74. MacBeth: David Tennant & Cush Jumbo - £2.5 million Fearless and unforgettably creepy. It opened 9x less than the Peppa Pig movie did in the same weekend but has managed to finish the year well above. This is a feature-length remake of the director and two writer/actor's 2007 short film 'The One and Only Herb McGwyer Plays Wallis Island' which was nominated for a BAFTA.
April 6Apr 6 Author 72. The Accountant 2 - £2.6 million Do you like puzzles? When an old acquaintance is murdered, Wolff is compelled to solve the case. Realizing more extreme measures are necessary, Wolff recruits his estranged and highly lethal brother, Brax, to help. Spoiler alert, he was a villain in the first film (and brother to the main character) but who turns good for this buddy-cop-eque sequel. This grossed about half of the original in the UK and only made $103 million worldwide against a $80 million budget but a trilogy-closer was still announced.
April 6Apr 6 Author 71. Based on the popular manga series, this is a direct continuation of the 2022 first series of the anime.
April 8Apr 8 Author 70. I Know What You Did Last Summer - £2.8 million You get the ending you deserve. When five friends inadvertently cause a deadly car accident, they cover up their involvement and make a pact to keep it a secret rather than face the consequences. A year later, their past comes back to haunt them and they’re forced to confront a horrifying truth: someone knows what they did last summer… and is hell-bent on revenge.Director: Jennifer Kaytin RobinsonCast: Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer-KingRelease Date: 18th July 2025Distributor: SonyCertification: 15Genre: HorrorRotten Tomatoes: 36%IMDb: 5.1 Top 15 Chart Run: 5-8-11 (3 weeks)Opening Weekend: £941,968 (#5) Sony must have saw the success the legacy sequels to 'Scream' have been doing for Paramount and though 'we can do that'. They had a 90s teen-slasher franchise of their own and we go the third (theatrical) film in the 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' franchise, introducing new characters as well as bringing back some of the original cast (Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr.). It didn't set the box office alight but still bagged a healthy $65 million against a $18 million budget.
April 8Apr 8 Author 69. Dhurandhar - £3 million A mysterious traveller slips into the heart of Karachi’s underbelly and rises through its ranks with lethal precision, only to tear the notorious ISI-Underworld nexus apart from within.Director: Aditya DharCast: Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay DuttRelease Date: 5th December 2025Distributor: Bollywood FilmsCertification: 18Genre: ActionRotten Tomatoes: 35%IMDb: 8.3 Top 15 Chart Run: 7-4-4-8-12-15 (6 weeks)Opening Weekend: £306,678 (#7) With the sequel in cinemas now and breaking records left, right and centre, we only had to go back to December to see the original 'Dhurandhar' have the sort of run we don't usually see for Indian films, having a big boost in weekend two and sticking around for 6 weeks. That's some difference between its Rotten Tomatoes and IMDb ratings. This was only the second biggest Indian release in 2025 but was comfortably bigger than the top 2024 release 'Pushpa 2: The Rule' (£1.6 million, EOY #75).
April 8Apr 8 Author 68. Marching Powder - £3.1 million A rom-com with a kick. Middle-aged Jack, arrested for drugs, strives in six weeks to repair his marriage, curb a bullying in-law, and guide his stepbrother in the right direction, but all efforts fail as his life spirals further out of control.Director: Nick LoveCast: Danny Dyer, Stephanie Leonidas, Calum MacNabRelease Date: 7th March 2025Distributor: True BritCertification: 18Genre: ComedyRotten Tomatoes: 33%IMDb: 5.3 Top 15 Chart Run: 3-4-8-14 (4 weeks)Opening Weekend: £1,079,492 (#3) Danny Dyer had moved into TV over recent years (including an infamous stint on Eastenders) but he made his first film in 10 years (since straight-to-DVD flick 'Assassin') and was rewarded with the second biggest hit of his career (trailing only 'Mean Machine', £4.4 million). This saw him re-team with director Nick Love with whom he made three films at the start of his career. It's also Love's second biggest film behind 'The Sweeney' (£4.4 million). This film was a huge success for an 18-rated British comedy (that looked terrible) made for a £1.6 million budget. Especially when they went for a non-traditional marketing strategy, ignoring TV adverts and focusing on online ads.
April 8Apr 8 Author 67. Bugonia - £3.1 million It all starts with something magnificent. Two conspiracy obsessed young men kidnap the high-powered CEO of a major company, convinced that she is an alien intent on destroying planet Earth.Director: Yorgos LanthimosCast: Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons, Aidan DelbisRelease Date: 31st October 2025Distributor: UniversalCertification: 15Genre: ComedyRotten Tomatoes: 87%IMDb: 7.4 Top 15 Chart Run: 1-4-10-10 (4 weeks)Opening Weekend: £986,194 (#1) We have our first #1 hit to drop out and its much lower than the for the other two EOY charts I've posted ('Shazam! Fury Of The Gods, £6 million, EOY #41, 2023 and 'Transformers One', £4.6 million, EOY #46, 2024). Although, as you can see this was a sub-million grossing #1 (the first time this had happened since 'See How They Run' bagged a 2nd week at #1 with £984,779 in September 2022). In fact, it was only previews that allowed this to top the chart, without them it would have landed at #3 and 'Regretting You' would have instead been a #1 hit on its second weekend. Lanthimos and Stone is the go-to director/actor paring of the 21st century with this landing at a healthy third in their works, well behind 'Poor Things' (£7.6 million, EOY #36, 2024) from last year. This is a remake of the 2003 Korean film 'Save The Green Planet!'.
April 8Apr 8 This thread is always a great read! I've been a flop cinephile (Flow is top of my list I promiseeeeee ) so Bugonia is the only one I've seen so far. I loved Poor Things but never got around to Kinds of Kindness. However, got back on the Lanthimos/Stone train with this one after going through Best Picture noms and was hooked.
