Biography

Singer/songwriter Olivia Dean crafts poignant ballads and warm pop anthems, showcasing a deep sense of self-awareness. Born in 1999 in Enfield and raised in Walthamstow, Dean participated in gospel choir at a young age, before busking in the streets and eventually attending the famous BRIT School. Influenced by Lauryn Hill, Amy Winehouse and Carole King, Dean’s own take on music is autobiographical and vulnerable. In 2019, she released her debut EP, Ok Love You Bye, which delved into the challenging aspects of dating, like on the meditative “Password Change”. The following year, Dean dropped her follow-up EP, What Am I Gonna Do On Sundays?, a concise but evocative set of songs brimming with celestial melodies and confessional lyrics. Dean’s signature introspective style continues to grow more intimate, as evinced by the delicate 2021 EP Growth, highlighted by the soul-baring single “Be My Own Boyfriend”. - Apple Music

To be honest, I think this single is starting to become this year's equivalent to Beautiful Things in 2024 or Gnarls Barkley's Crazy in 2006.

So if Billie Jean goes top 10 are they still not gonna play MJ next week?

They played Thriller when it was top 10 last year so don't see why not - also they played him during the albums rundown so it's not like they outright refuse unlike with Ye

The worst of all imo. drama

I mean he is a paedophile imo, it's gross people are celebrating him idc 🫣

presumably MJ is on the R1 blacklist along with Kanye West etc. then for being problematic (at least they're being morally consistent here)

no excuse for skipping the new Noah Kahan though

Biography

“I try not to overthink songs,” Zara Larsson told Apple Music in 2019. Instead, the Swedish singer feels most on point when she’s able to “just feel it.” Larsson’s ability to convey that mix of youthful confidence and emotional intensity helped make her one of Europe’s biggest new music stars while she was still in her teens. Born in 1997 in a suburb of Stockholm, Larsson first found fame in Sweden when her performance of Céline Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On” clinched her victory on a TV talent show at the age of 10. After leaving school to focus on her music full time, she released her debut album, 1, in 2014, which topped the charts throughout Scandinavia and landed her a U.S. record deal. By the time she was scoring international hits alongside rapper Tinie Tempah on “Girls Like” and guesting on David Guetta’s “This One’s for You”, she was fast developing beyond the familiar dance-pop templates and demonstrating a boldness that evoked Beyoncé and Rihanna, two of her biggest influences. (She paid tribute to another inspiration a few years later when she released a sumptuous cover of Robyn’s “With Every Heartbeat”.) “Never Forget You”, a thrilling collaboration with singer and producer MNEK that also marked Larsson’s first songwriting effort, became her first major U.S. success. Together with the album So Good, the song established the power and allure of Larsson’s sleek yet impassioned brand of EDM-powered pop. - Apple Music

Of course the heavy plays of Dean are because she's headlining the London O2 currently.

Yup, MJ's had 5 Radio 1 plays in 2026 so he's not on the blacklist. Poor form for a chart show!

There's no correlation between this and Radio 1, they were playing her heavily anyway beforehand and will continue to do so.

30th week in the top 10 for "Lush Life". Only the 9th song to achieve this.

They had to skip Michael Jackson because of his nonce behaviour towards children and an certain payout in 1993.

This isn't the case, they've played him a few times this year (compared to Kanye who they haven't played in years).

The MJ stuff is "alleged" which is why he's not blacklisted I assume.

5 plays in 4 months? That's massive angel
