But I have to honestly confess if I subbed for Jack, I'd honestly do a better job at hosting the Radio 1 chart show. Anyone agree there?

Biography

Tame Impala transformed psychedelic rock—and 21st century pop—in such an impactful way that even Lady Gaga, Rihanna, and Kanye couldn’t resist the band's influence. The brainchild of Australian musician Kevin Parker, Tame Impala serve as both a blistering and blissed-out exercise in expansion—of sound, space, and the mind. “I’m the most creative when I’m uncomfortable,” Parker told Apple Music. “The idea of doing what I’m already good at is boring because it’s always gotta be a little bit frightening.” That fear has been a powerful motivator for Parker, who started Tame Impala in 2007 from his Perth home. His appetite for guitar experimentation—powered by an arsenal of reverb, phaser, delay, and fuzz pedals—made his 2010 debut album, InnerSpeaker, one of the year’s standout indie releases. On 2012’s Lonerism, he loaded up on synths, found inspiration in Todd Rundgren, and locked into woozy pop grooves made of both dreams (“Be Above It”) and nightmares (“Feels Like We Only Go Backwards”). He also got far more personal. As Parker has looked further inward, his music—and musical circle—has continued to expand outward. By the mid-2010s, he was collaborating with Mark Ronson, producing Gaga, and inspiring Rihanna (who covered “New Person, Same Old Mistakes”). But Tame Impala has remained his “sacred space,” an outlet that has allowed him to embrace funk (2015’s Currents), dance music (2020’s The Slow Rush), and all the infinite possibilities yet to be discovered. - Apple Music

Of course the version radio is preferring the fusion of Kevin Parker - or Tame Impala - and BLACKPINK's Jennie on the reworking.

Starting to really dislike the Jennie remix, everytime I hear this out in public I get excited but then realise it's the trendy TikTok version...

Biography

There’s a moment in a 2020 interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe where Justin Bieber begins—quietly, hesitantly—to cry. “It was hard for me being that young and being in the industry, and not knowing where to turn, and everyone telling me they love me, and just turning their back on you in a second,” Bieber says, each clause kicking up memories like dust. The point isn’t to weep with or for him—he’s had more dreams come true in his first 25 years than most people manage in a lifetime. But he’s also one of the few pop stars of his generation to have truly grown up in public, weathering the cable newsification of celebrity culture in the internet era while still trying to develop as both an artist and a person. Even early on, you could tell he had his eye on the future, balancing a doe-eyed wholesomeness with earnest attempts at hip-hop and R&B, material that suited him as a kid with material that reflected his growth into adolescence and adulthood. Some teen-pop singers end up trapped in amber; Justin Bieber has, knocks and all, kept swimming. Born in London, Ontario, in 1994, Bieber was famously discovered when his future manager, Scooter Braun, stumbled on some performance videos that Bieber’s mom had uploaded to YouTube to share with family and friends. Braun, who understood not only Bieber’s appeal but the potential of the internet, encouraged him to keep making videos and keep the equipment cheap—an approach that not only helped Bieber’s growing fanbase to understand that he was still just a kid like them, but drafted a new blueprint for how artists could reach audiences in the digital era. With the exception of a voice change around 2011, 2009’s My World, 2010’s My World 2.0, and 2012’s Believe are more or less of a piece: the sound of a boy trying to stick the landing into puberty. Released in 2015, Purpose showed Bieber developing a more thoughtful connection to his material, including collaborations with vanguard pop producers like Diplo, Skrillex, and Benny Blanco. After a five-year break during which Bieber underwent significant personal changes—including a detox from touring life, a diagnosis of Lyme disease, and a epiphanic marriage to Hailey Baldwin—he came back with 2020’s Changes. “People have been putting me on a pedestal,” Bieber told Apple Music. "I didn’t ask for that. Obviously I love making music, but there are a lot of people that love making music and they’re not in the position that I’m in. I’m just trying to steward that wisely, steward my relationship wisely. I want people to take a look at my story—hopefully, my words can make a difference.” - Apple Music

It's a weird one, although he's had considerable success I don't feel like he's reached household name status yet or close to it. Like, a lot of people I know who at least semi keep up with current stuff don't really seem to know who he is or he's passed them by so far.

He will end up having 3 millionaire songs off that first album. A top 10 lead on the next and then a 30 something follow up even though its a pre-album release. He can't debut a song top 10 which indicates there is no buzz or curiosity about his new releases. And he's not done nearly as well in the US.

To me, it's more due to time restrictions and the fact that have to stick to the playlist in terms of the singles and hits.

They don't have to stick to the playlist, they play plenty of songs not playlisted.

I have been really getting back into this the past week, shame maga Minaj is on it, she used to be such a talent. Shame she’s put it to waste. How embarsssing

Or... Maybe I'd do it myself honestly. "Tame Impala, refusing to move at 4 there with Dracula. The UK Top 40 on Radio 1, 3 records left. It's this one at... (3 number jingle)"

Homewrecker debuted top 15 which is absolutely nothing to be sniffed at - it climbing into the top 10 in week 2 was still significant. He's still a new artist building a name for himself but I think the signs are very much there for him having a strong core fanbase and enough casual interest to quickly score hits at the moment.
