Posted Wednesday at 09:361 day I think this topic is only going to get louder, we've already got a song in the top three based on an AI creation so it surely won't be long before one hits No.1. I wonder how long before an entirely AI created and recorded track does really well. Obviously there was that Stromae 'cover' that charted, but it didn't massively take off here. AI songs have done well in other countries, there's one that would have got to No.1 in Sweden a few months ago but the charts compiler there banned it from charting.Anyway, this major step with Suno and record labels, as reported in Music Week today, feels like it could have a giant impact going forward. I'm surprised labels are playing ball with Suno, it still feels to me like it is going to damage them in the long run if AI music becomes more prevalent, surely, even if they and their artists are getting some sort of cut?Suno rolls out new generation of...Suno rolls out new generation of AI music models with War...I suppose it's a good thing that Suno is trying to be more ethical, but to what ends? Surely all creativity is lost. The quote from the CEO, “We started Suno because we believed more people should be able to experience the joy of making music,” is so curious to me, as you are not actually making music, you are just feeding prompts? It can be fun for a laugh, but when real artists are using it and releasing music made with prompts, I question the joy in that, for them and consumers.

Unless people start boycotting labels for their AI endorsements and stop streaming old songs released by them I can't see how they would see any financial drawbacks from these AI partnerships. Really saddening that they are now on board with it all but again I'm not surprised.

AI music could make them massive amounts of money IF the general public wanted it (thankfully they don't seem to - for now at least) given it would cost effectively nothing and you'd have an 'artist' [citation needed] who would never complain, be able make infinite amounts of music and do whatever the label wanted whenever they want it.
Wednesday at 10:021 day Author True, I guess labels are still reeling from the early 00s when they failed to react quickly enough to the threat of downloads and Napster and Limewire etc hurt them so much, so they want to be on the front foot with AI, whatever that looks like. Creativity and originality be damned!

Previously political acts had to write their own lyrics and tune (or rip off somebody else's tune), get a session singer to do it, or sing it themselves badly, pay for production and mastering etc. This all cost them $$$, and ultimately whoever is motivated to buy these things anyway isn't buying it to listen to the song itself, so will buy it if it's AI or not. I fully expect to see loads of Suno political songs coming around. Maybe some in time for a Christmas No.1 download campaign.

But still, that doesn't take away from what a worrying precedent this whole thing sets.I still see so many people using the Puerto Rico song on social media stories etc 😣

If they still do it, where do we draw the line?
Wednesday at 11:031 day I am genuinely yet to hear any song that actually sounds good at all that uses AI or has had some form of AI influence - I Run and Movin To The Sun are horrendous and sound so cheap/tacky.

Seems to be first and foremost a Reiki master and is also listed as a "Deep House Producer" but have they actually made any of their music themselves. Seems so crazy that someone who fed some words into Suno and came out with a house track is top three in the chart. Can't wait to see them perfom the track live...

Wednesday at 12:351 day I think (well more like hope and pray) that more chart companies will follow Australia's footsteps and ban it completely. Edited Wednesday at 12:361 day by C.O.

Wednesday at 15:171 day I just HATE generative AI with a passion. It has made people so lazy and uninspiring. Not to mention the environmental damage that it causes (the constant usage of clean drinking water to cool its systems, which then evaporates).

If they insist on keeping it around they need to at least charge people to use it...
