Classic Taylor blocking an up and coming band for another number one that she doesn’t need. It would’ve meant a lot more to Keo.

How is it unfair if old music is still popular?

Posted Images

"Unwritten" is now the longest-charting song by a British woman (97 weeks), overtaking Dua Lipa's "Levitating" (96 weeks).

So much old rubbish clogging up the chart, completely unfair on newer artists who rely on the chart for exposure. They need to change the rules again.

The chart reflects what people are streaming and buying.

You need to get the public to start streaming newer artists and they will chart.

This I agree - but some chancers just happen to find loopholes!

A 3 year limit for songs in the chart would be best policy. Anything older gets shunted to a separate "classics" charts.

Man I Need (and Rein Me In if duets are counted) will be coming for that record soon

That's only a recent thing though - for most of it's life the chart charted what people bought so you didn't get old stuff clogging up the chart. Restrictions to length of time in the chart would restore some balance - 3 years from release seems fair.

Beat me to it. I was gonna say that a new rule should be that any song over the 3 year threshold should be excluded from the charts to pave the way for more modern music

Biography

"Mi Chico" is a song by Romanian musician DJ Goja, released by American media company Gamma on 27 March 2026. A version featuring American singer Jason Derulo and Brazilian singer Melody was released on 26 June 2026. Goja told the Romanian radio station Kiss FM that the idea for the song had come to him whilst he was working on children's music projects, explaining that he wanted to combine Afrobeats sounds with the structure of children's music, which is characterised by easy-to-remember and repetitive lyrics. Goja chose a title in Spanish because, in his view, that language evokes a summery atmosphere. His recent interest in Afro house inspired the songwriting process for the track, for which he wanted to create a song that makes people want to dance whilst also resonating emotionally with listeners. Following the viral success of the original song, American singer Jason Derulo congratulated Goja on Instagram, and Goja then suggested they produce a new version of the track. Derulo liked the idea and they then worked together for two weeks. Ahead of its release, the new version was promoted on TikTok via a teaser featuring a dance routine, which had generated more than 250,000 creations prior to the release date. The new version was released on 26 June 2026, featuring Derulo and Brazilian singer Melody. The release was accompanied by a music video filmed in Paris, France. Directed by French filmmaker and choreographer Kevin Bago, it features Goja, Derulo, Melody and a troupe of 30 dancers, including the duo Les Twins. - Wikipedia

first confirmed AI vocals in the top fourty? I Run + Movin' To The Sun were both re-recorded whereas this still has the raw vocals, they're just credited to an actual vocalist despite their AI-generated nature

Not them playing the Derulo-free, entirely AI-generated original song lmao x

(I hate that I find this a bop and I hate that I had no idea until recently that the Derulo version is actually almost the same as the original ffs)

It's now his only way to stay relevant.

Would the three years start from release date or from the first week it reaches the chart?

I'm unsure if this is AI generated...

Edit: the original version without Derulo is.

Because these old songs benefitted from the different measurements first time round before streaming was include and when songs were shunted out quicker, they don't deserve a second. 60s music remained popular into the 90s but it didn't clog up the chart because more people bought new music. Streaming doesn't have that failsafe and unfairly advantages old songs. 3 year from release limit would fix the chart overnight.
