Sunday at 19:542 days Author 7th Benny Andersson Band - Story Of A Heart77.5 Points (Average: 7.05)UK Chart Run: N/ABiggest BJ FAN: @777666jason @Paddington James @Mangø (8)Biggest BJ Hater: @Jessie Where (5)So, rounding off tonight’s votes in 7th place and just missing out on the top half is Story Of A Heart. The song was famously written by ABBA legends Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus and initially featured on a compilation album released in 2009.The original features vocals from Swedish singer and actress Helen Sjöholm. The Steps version stays fairly loyal to the original and ends up sounding not too dissimilar. Now, if only Benny and Bjorn had enlisted 7th Heaven for their version too

Elaine Paige & Barbara Dickson - I Know Him So Well78.5 Points (Average: 7.14)UK Chart Run: 63-34-6-3-2-{1}-1-1-1-2-8-10-28-34-41-62->16Biggest BJ FAN: @Viper* (10)Biggest BJ HATER: @JB (3)The second song to chart in the UK, and the second to chart at #1, lands in 6th place. The song was written for the musical ‘Chess’, by Tim Rice, Benny Anderson & Björn Ulvaeus, making it the second ABBA-adjacent song to appear in the countdown!Steps recorded the song as part of the Abbamania soundtrack and it was later released as a AA side single with Words Are Not Enough… their final single before their initial split! The song was later covered again by icons Susan Boyle and Geraldine McQueen, and I think we all know which version is the superior one
Yesterday at 10:071 day Completely forgot to vote in this!Elaine and Barbara should have been higher 🤣
Yesterday at 10:451 day Author 5th. Bananarama - Last Thing On My Mind80 Points (Average: 7.27)UK Chart Run: {71}-74->2Biggest BJ FAN: @pippa @777666jason (10)Biggest BJ HATER: @Spiceboy (3)Sneaking into the top 5, mostly thanks to pippa’s final vote, we have Last Thing On My Mind! The song was very much a flop for Bananarama, who were now down to 2 members. The song snook in to the top 75 at #71 in 1992, and was their penultimate charting hit before their initial split in 1993.6 years later, the song had quite the poptastic revamp and a reversal of fortunes as Steps took the song to the dizzy heights of #6, removing any doubt that they’d end up labelled a one hit wonder, and certainly paved the way for what was to come from the band.

Released as the sixth single from their second album, the song was Five Star’s final foray into the top 10, peaking at #4 in 1987.Several members of Steps cite Five Star as one of their favourite childhood music acts so it’s no surprise that they eventually got their way and covered one of their songs. The Slightest Touch was subsequently released as the 3rd single from their What The Future Holds pt.2 album in August 2021 and quickly became a fan fave!

Love all three of Five Star’s, Steps' and Louise's versions. I guess it's hard to do a bad version of a good song!

Yesterday at 18:431 day Author 🥉 3rd. Jenny Silver - Something In Your Eyes84.5 Points (Average: 7.68)UK Chart Run: N/ABiggest BJ FAN: @Lee_J11 (11)Biggest BJ HATER: @Scene (4)Into the top 3 we go then, and it’s the newest released of the 3, Jenny Silver’s Melodifestivalen 2011 entry! Jenny competed with the song to represent Sweden at Eurovision but sadly failed to advance to the grand final. The song remains an absolute bop, which has followed right through to Steps’ version which I feel is definitely a fan fave amongst their Steps 2.0 efforts! So we have two left and it’s a battle of the titans. Kylie Vs Diana! Who will come out on top?!
Yesterday at 19:051 day So chain reaction is looking to win most overrated and best cover in the same week 😮
Yesterday at 19:521 day Author 🥈 2nd. Diana Ross - Chain Reaction98 Points (Average: 8.91)UK Chart Run: 69-44-31-14-4-2-{1}-1-1-2-6-12-18-35-46-61-73->17Biggest BJ FAN: @777666jason (11)Biggest BJ HATER: @Paddington James @Lee_J11 (7)The top 2 were significantly ahead of the others in terms of overall points (and therefore average) but it is Diana Ross’ Chain Reaction that finishes in the runner-up spot! The song hit #1 40 years ago and to this day remains a classic. It may have been voted Steps’ most overrated single here last week but the original is seemingly (almost) unbeatable!Which leaves us with the #1 original song, which I don’t think was ever really in doubt…
